This car has a 383ci V8 engine making well over 400hp. To help get that to the ground it has 13" wide rear wheels and 10" wide front wheels. To fit them it has fender flares 3" *WIDER THAN A 944*. A 924 with no flares just won't work. With the 7" wide wheels that fit under the more aerodynamc 924 fenders this car would use up the rear tires every few hundred feet. Not only that, but the early chassis (pre-1985.5) are weaker and all arround worse to use for racing.
Bone stock. I've done 11 of these and currently on the 12th. All but one use the stock 951 transmission (this is a Transaxle car - there is no 'rear end'). The one exception used it's stock 944 transmission, but the gear ratios are too short - he just couldn't afford to purchase a proper 951 box.
So far the one in this video is the strongest engine. A few were stock, a few got LT4 upgrades, a few got better cams. The car in this video was a race preparded 383 striker somewhere in the area of 500hp and 500lb/ft. The one we have taken to two straight NASA GTS4 championships is 355hp and 360lb/ft at the wheels. It has run for three race seasons on 305 wide slicks with not a peep out of the transmission. 951 ratios are fine for every application I've seen.
I own an 86' 944 NA that has been converted for the V-8 """"LT-1"""" swap with parts of renegades kit and my neighbors machineshop fabrication. It is all installed waiting on a V-8 and some love to finish her. As far as the car goes the right rear brake caliper is locked. I have lost intrest and will let the whole project go minus the motor for $2,000. Anyone who has investigated the costs of a conversion knows that this is a steal. No I will not part out the kit or the car. Let me know
This particular car maybe 3-4mpg? The others I believe are close to 30mpg highway, look up the specs for a early 90's Corvette which is where the engines are from. The exhaust is completely custom to each car and the muffler depends on owner preferance. One used a Corvette muffler, another Borla, one FlowMaster, one even used the stock Porsche 951 muffler. The car in the video had hand made NASCAR style flat exhaust with no muffler.
cant even get into 3rd gear on that straight cause its so short, thats some power right there Im inpressed. I have a supercharged e36 I wouldnt dare race ya. keep the videos coming
beautiful job, I'm putting an LS1 in my 951.

Can you get an ls1 engine into an 87 924s?
As for the fenders you can always swap the stock ones out and get a wide body conversion right ?
cpimp35 2 years ago
yep, you can do both of those. An LS1 is a nice swap option but much more expensive for the motor and swap. It fits perfectly though.
You can even shove a 911 motor in there! :) I'm pretty sure someone has done 2jz swaps too

what rear end and trans did you use? very cool car. If i'm ever able to i'll build one just like this one

951

did you have to beef up the trans or rear ends for higher power levels? and also were you using the stock rear end gear ratio? thank you

what kind of power levels have you done on the 951 trans? are the gear ratios for the trans to short for a 5500 rpm engine
