For those fighting regionalists here: A lot of Tamil people nowadays cannot pronounce the retroflex ள் (L) either. Come to that many Tamils cannot say the ழ் (zh) in the name of their language! Maybe it was always so, but we did not have the chance to hear so many people mispronounce these phonemes. And some words are not pronounced the same way I used to know them, 40 years ago. Eg.: kudhirai is now gudhirai. So much for schools doing their jobs.

@mathmadhan I disagree with you. I am also tamilian, also I am a musician. They are selecting only right people among the contestants. Can you say, alka is less talented than other participants? Definitely not.. Indian music is the best. I don't think of splitting tamil, malayali...etc.

@mathmadhan For the record, a Chennai lady Kalpana won the IDEA star singer 2011 on Asianet just days ago. That's probably the biggest show in South Indian television for aspiring singers and the standards are way higher, to the extent that it can get boring for the layman audience. And you are an absolute jackass to use such language when commenting on a kid's video. Sometimes I don't understand why Indians get so bloody worked up for all the wrong reasons.
