Janaki; mesmerizing voice has few parallels; one can find similar Janaki magic in Naalum En Manam song in Nilavu suduvathillai, which is also uploaded by an IR Fan in You Tube. Both these songs always figure in my Top10songs. Difficult to recreate the magic of IR sir with the support of SP and Janaki.
raja sir, u must have been in a great mood when u composed music for this song. pa pa pa pa pa.......whistle........song suits anytime of the day.....lovely
What a compositon. Pa Pa Pa, beautiful melodius song by Issai Gani. I dont know, how to enjoy it. Beautiful compositon. When I hear this song, I automatically recollect my old school days memories when I was studying in VANA VANA SCHOOL, IIT, CHENNAI. Those wonderful days, evergreen days, greenish days, will never come back in my life.
Each and every line has a meaning. My sincere thanks to Illayaraja Sir. I am a big fan if ISSAI GANI.
I Salute your words on Ilayaraaja Velgean "Some one in the Youtube had commented that OSCAR award is poorer because it has not reached IR. Very true. The westerners do not know what real Indian FILM MUSIC is. If Jai Ho can get an Oscar for ARR then IR should have been heaped in several Oscars. "
I once heard kanal Hassan say that if Sivaji Ganesan had ever received the Oscars then no one else could be given the award because doing so would be like equating Sivaji with some one else. Not sure about that but it's true with Ilayaraja. For the number of hits he had given he should not be given any award. The other musicians ( who are probably half as good ) should be given the ' Ilayaraja Award'.
Some one in the Youtube had commented that OSCAR award is poorer because it has not reached IR. Very true. The westerners do not know what real Indian FILM MUSIC is.
If Jai Ho can get an Oscar for ARR then IR should have been heaped in several Oscars.
Of course I am a critic of the present day IR but the songs in nenjathai Killathe really kills me!

great film by mahendran film ran for 60 weeks in devi bala in madras in 1980 ilayaraja gave his best for this dirctor and the songs were just great .spb and janaki lyrics ganagiamaran all songs in this movie .
We always say that he deserves a Oscar...but how many of those who get Oscars do we remember after many years? But don't you folks think that we'll always remember Ilayaraja for his amazing contribution of songs...so many years on and it stirs up emotions like...well, you know it if you experience it! :-) Simply beautiful
Just last week I went Chennai, I seen AR rahman music released for kalaingnar , its just shown Rahman music I cant even get the words in that songs, if you all hear the 80s 90s music by ilayaraja sir what a word and what a meaning with all songs!!!, great Raja sir and I really proud being this generation,
when top directors of tamil ignored IR, music quality started deteriorating. we really miss IR sirs music these days. But im sure he left a lot for us to cherish! Lets hope he'll keep making more albums.
Golden times, we cant get again, we really miss ilayaraja sir, when Balachandar, balu mahendra, Bharathi raja, Manirathnam ignore Ilayaraja now they are nothing in Tamil field and we lose ilayaraja too,
@dubaithamizhan I am 18 but i agree with you guys. i dunno how it feels how you guys lived in the 80's but i can say that tamil cinema had its best during the 80's and 80's only!
balu mahendra, bala chander, bharathiraaja bhagyaraja and so on.
music ilaiyaraaja. cinematography p c sreeram. kamal rajini. JUST WOW!
One Beautiful Melody still lingers in our heart for almost 30 yrs, a decent movie, with the beautiful melodies from Raja. Pls. Upload "Yeh Thendrale".
I was inclined to agree with you first but then... there are simply too many Raja songs that would be clamouring for the top ten positions. This one is simply mesmerizing. I do agree that it hasn't reached many people.
That said the movie itself is brilliant - one of Mahendran's masterpieces. When he is inspired, Raja delivers mind-blowing music, the kind that no other music composer can imagine.
When he is not inspired, he still delivers good but not that great (which is only natural). That is the problem for Raja these days. Most of the movie situations he gets are stale and trite and can't inspire him enough. That is why you see great output when he works with directors like Bala but even that is nothing compared to what he delivered with Mahendran.
Placing IR's songs in Top Ten is left to the Individual. This is the reason why I liked it. Once I saw a TV Ad for Whirlpool which had the humming of S.Janaki as the Background. Then I remember having listen these songs in 80's when I was a kid. I was searching for these songs without knowing the Pallavi and the Movie Name and finally found that in RAAGA.,com after 3 years. I would always value the 5 piase pocket money from my Dad more than the thousands that I earn now.
"Placing IR's songs in Top Ten is left to the Individual."
I agree Ramesh. What I meant to say was that while this is one of IRs masterpieces, there are still countless more like this one. Of course, I understand it is individual preference - this is one of my favorites too. I was only referring to the fact that I simply couldn't arrive at my favorite top 10. And it isn't easy either; if you have to pick 10 among 50, it is not that hard. But, 10 among, say, 1000 is onerous.
But what is more inspiring to me is the picturization. None other than the directors like Mahendran, Maniratnam, Balumahendra can picturize IR songs so well. If you are die hard fan of IR. Listen to songs like 'Alli thandha Bhoomi...' from the movie 'Nandu' and 'Aye Zindagi...' from the movie SADMA.
I am a hard core fan of Raja and Mahendran and I agree with your comment about the picturization. While I like Raja's work in Maniratnam's movies, the movies themselves aren't my favorites. I have heard "alli thantha bhoomi". I like Raja - SPB combo the most but Raja - MV isn't too behind either. "Sadma" is the remake of "Moondram Pirai", isn't it? I have heard "Moondram Pirai" too. Which song is the equivalent of "Aye Zindagi"?
IR is a pure genious...no questions. An incredibly talented musical wizard. What a composition ! His timeless creations will live for centuries together....

Guys..this is the first time i see people r talking gently and sharing valuable comments abt music and the great Maestro Ilayaraaja..
There r number of songs of our 'KING'..
Mahendran is one of the best directors who can give a commercial film without unnecessary compromises..
This song deserves atleast 5 Academy awards.. Long live Raaja!!
