@shawn1995roolzdood You're sort of comparing apple & oranges if you're thinking of getting a truck. If you want PERFORMANCE, the best bang for the buck is this car. Be careful that you don't get one that's been beat up by prior owners. You may want to look at a '98 or newer because it is a different engine (LS1) that is considered better than the LT1 engine in the 97s. Good luck.

I owned this car 8 years ago. If memory serves, the bumper lights (aka running lights) were always on in this model year regardless as to whether the headlights were on or off.
I got that problem with my '97s fog lights. The Headlights have to pop up in order for the fog lights to turn on, but I've seen others that can have them on w/o the headlights up.
you probably have a grinding headlight motor and need a new gear. you are supposed to be able to turn on the fog lights/parking lights without the headlights using the middle position on the knob. if they pop up something is wrong and its most likely a bad mtor gear. listen for a grinding noise.
You may've discovered it by now, but there's a little switch just beneath your headlights switch. Flip it to the "on" position and then turn your headlights switch on halfway (just so that dashboard lights up but headlamps don't pop up). :)
Yes. LT1 was the engine up until '97. In 1998, it switched to the LS1. Mine was purely stock. The way you see it in this vid is the way it came out of the factory.

I have the altima 3.5 and the 1994 firebird formula lt1 and there is noway i would sell the bird, I have beaten vettes, ls1, mustangs 2000 and 2009 there is no way and in 10 years they will be collectables.
Well, I'm no mechanic, but I can't imagine it would be that hard if you had the proper equipment and knew what you were doing. As far as I know, the dimensions under the hood would be exactly the same.
I know this is an old post, but I have to throw my two cents in since I pursued this course of action and so has a buddy of mine. actually its not as easy as one thinks. An LS1 won't just fit pending on the car. the 98-02 Camaro's actually got their face lift, so that the LS1 would fit under the hood. 2nd thing the motor mounts are different, 3rd thing you have to get a newer PCM with the adaptive module. Stock LS1 computers are adaptive unlike LT1s. however you can use the same power train.

I believe that T-tops were available in those years, but I'm not 100%. If you are considering getting a T/A, then I would strongly recommend getting a '98 or newer. This is because of the upgraded LS1 engine.
You're right. The LS1 was definitely a better engine than the LT1 but that would be a lot of money for only 15 more hp. I probably would've been better just adding NOS to the existing engine. That would boost it well over 400hp.

There is a vital difference between a Trans Am and a camaro - the T/A is actually appealing, & NOT an ugly, boring, flat sided econo-box. But actually the differences run deeper than that, but that gets into the histories of the products, which seems is not what you're into.

Apparently you haven't heard about the so-called "lowlife" Camaro that is coming out next year. This thing is RIDICULOUS. 400Hp The body style is a throwback to the Gen 1 Camaros that ran between 1967 and '69. Truth be told, if GM was releasing a new Trans Am, I would probably get that instead. Unfortunately, that's not an option right now but hopefully it will be in the future...

That was a nice ride. I woulden't a traded it for no Altima lol. Only thing wrong about it was the oogly ass steering wheel... other than that its one of the most flawless American cars of its time. And anybody who thinks Firebirds or other American sports coupes are trashy becuase they are loud and eat gas like hell, obviously have no taste themselves.
The Altima is obviously no T/A, but it's still not half bad at 240hp. Plus, it's a little more practical in the harsh New England climate. Speaking of which, GO PATRIOTS!
I've got one. '97 WS6 black absolutely no options outside the trans am options for that year. Cloth seats, AM/FM cassette. But the dealership wanted to sell me a '98 loaded T/A w/o WS6. No deal. I've got me a '97 WS6 with 60k miles. BTW I own it!!!
The LT1 is actually a 5.7L V8(350 cubic inches). The Bhp is 285, but with the ram air induction that brings it up to 305 horse. They also made a 3.8L V6 at that time. Never a 3.4L. I could never picture going out and buying a 6 cylinder Firebird. Sort of defeats the purpose of having one.
They made a 3.4 v6 which was a bored out version of the 3.1 from 1993-1995ish in the firbird and camaros. in 1996-2001 they made the base with a 3.8L v6. A 3.8 acutally handles better than an lt1 or LS1 because the v6 sits farther back in the negine bay, thus weight distrabution is better. Also, the 3.8 has a bolt on eaton m90 supercharger availble.
not to sound like an ass, but they did make a 3.4l base model for both the camaor and the firebird....A lot of people don't know that, they think it is just the 5.7 and the 3.8 and I thought this too until i popped the hood of my first car a 5 speed camaro 3.4l v6 which was made in 1993-1995(except like 500 3.8s were made in Cali in those years) after that the 3.8l was the base engine. but now i saved my mmoney and bought a 1994 6 speed manual trans am...its fun. nice ride by the way.

Nice Trans Am, however it doesn't have 305 hp. The LS1 was rated at 305 hp stock but is more like 340hp. The LT1 is what that is. 97 was the last year for the LT1.

Correct. It would bolt right on to the transmission. No problems at all, just a standard engine swap.
There would be some "extra parts" you may need that wouldn't come with the engine though.

You're right. The LS1 was definitely a better engine than the LT1 but that would be a lot of money for only 15 more hp. I probably would've been better just adding NOS to the existing engine. That would boost it well over 400hp.

My friend just bought a black 1997 WS6. He's due home tonight with it (he had to make a 9 hour drive to pick it up) and I can't wait.
It's a bad ass car, for sure. I'm more a 'vette guy but I will always respect the fbodies as I've got one and love it. The '97 and 2002 WS6 are just pure sex.

01,auot, targa, shorties, magnaflow, hypertech and cold air intake. 40k miles. I still owe alot of cash on it so I have to keep it. Exterior is completely stock,engine mildly modded. 97 TA's are awesome, I used to own a firebird. I wish I would have gotten a 02 etc TA instead of my vette. :)

no jay leno would not say a Trans Am is trashy since he bought a 2002 CETA according to a Motor Trend TV segment dedicated to that model pacing the 2002 Daytona 500. Leno was driving one of them around Daytona motor speedway giving rides as a matter of fact.

usquanigo maybe i was wrong to insult you, you seem very knowledgable but both camaro and trans am run the ls1. yes tahoes and cobalts are both gm but they dont share the same drivetrain. and yes i am very very aware of the history of the camaro, im a camaro freak. but i do understand what you are saying the t/a looks like its goona run you down, i love how they look. but the camaro isnt ugly common, with an ss hood rims you know all the little things a camaro can look just as good as a t/a

Yeah, Tahoes and Cobalts are both GM too, doesn't mean they are the same thing.
XLRs and 'Vettes are both Y-Bodies, and not the same thing.
There is a vital difference between a Trans Am and a camaro - the T/A is actually appealing, & NOT an ugly, boring, flat sided econo-box. But actually the differences run deeper than that, but that gets into the histories of the products, which seems is not what you're into.

Apparently you haven't heard about the so-called "lowlife" Camaro that is coming out next year. This thing is RIDICULOUS. 400Hp The body style is a throwback to the Gen 1 Camaros that ran between 1967 and '69. Truth be told, if GM was releasing a new Trans Am, I would probably get that instead. Unfortunately, that's not an option right now but hopefully it will be in the future...

Yeah, I know about it. And am none too pleased. lol It's always been the lower class, inferior, econo-box sibling, not to mention uglier by a long shot.
The performance and specs of the new one may be great, but I don't buy a chassis, powertrain and specs. I buy cars that stir the passion and no camaro will EVER be a substitute for a Trans Am.
The new Challenger looks far better, and like a better overall ride and deal than the new camaro too. :) (still no substitute for a T/A however)

Thanks man!!! Unfortunately it's not the WS6 package. A little bit about it.....1995 TA 6-speed LT1, T-tops, leather, flowmaster exhaust((which I plan on changing)), SLP complete suspension package, 3:73 rear end, SLP racing clutch ((I think)). I should be picking it up here in a few hours.

I aim to please, Brian. Next year I plan on picking up the '09 Camaro. 400hp brutha. Have fun w/ your new LT1. Did you get a ram air WS6? Check the tires on it. If they are at the end of their life, you may want to negotiate that into the price. Those directional tires are EXPENSIVE.

I've got one. '97 WS6 black absolutely no options outside the trans am options for that year. Cloth seats, AM/FM cassette. But the dealership wanted to sell me a '98 loaded T/A w/o WS6. No deal. I've got me a '97 WS6 with 60k miles. BTW I own it!!!

The LT1 is actually a 5.7L V8(350 cubic inches). The Bhp is 285, but with the ram air induction that brings it up to 305 horse. They also made a 3.8L V6 at that time. Never a 3.4L. I could never picture going out and buying a 6 cylinder Firebird. Sort of defeats the purpose of having one.

The actual car in th evidoe has an ls1.
They made a 3.4 v6 which was a bored out version of the 3.1 from 1993-1995ish in the firbird and camaros. in 1996-2001 they made the base with a 3.8L v6. A 3.8 acutally handles better than an lt1 or LS1 because the v6 sits farther back in the negine bay, thus weight distrabution is better. Also, the 3.8 has a bolt on eaton m90 supercharger availble.

not to sound like an ass, but they did make a 3.4l base model for both the camaor and the firebird....A lot of people don't know that, they think it is just the 5.7 and the 3.8 and I thought this too until i popped the hood of my first car a 5 speed camaro 3.4l v6 which was made in 1993-1995(except like 500 3.8s were made in Cali in those years) after that the 3.8l was the base engine. but now i saved my mmoney and bought a 1994 6 speed manual trans am...its fun. nice ride by the way.

Nice Trans Am, however it doesn't have 305 hp. The LS1 was rated at 305 hp stock but is more like 340hp. The LT1 is what that is. 97 was the last year for the LT1.
