The magic eyes looks like a pretty intense and rather refreshing design, although I enjoys the star's shape, finally seeing a good torus is pretty sweet. Is it exactly the same as the torus though? If not it would be nice if both were included in the same book due to the similarities. Also, how many 'rotations' will they go in a cycle, as the star utilizes 6 obviously.
Thanks for the replies, one of the reasons for the inquiry is that it seems a greater # module ring would allow for lesser tension, and would be useful for my foil origami packet is 10 colours, while I have 13 'preferred' colours in my multi-pack. Also, I used approx. 3in size paper for my first module (splitting paper into fourths) and found that the final connection of the 1st and 6th ring ended up in tearing in various places, due to the 1st flaps not wanting to invert or insert to 6's peaks
Also, what is the limit for how many can compose a ring, ie: 5, 6, to say 12 or 13; in otherwords what is effective and practical, and how many max patterns can you use in one, so can you use say 10 different rings in one or is the 6 rings pretty solid?
@OmniasX For this particular model, it's optimal to have 6 ring-modules, considering the angle with which the modules attached one to another... When folding the star from squares you may have as much as 48 colours involved.
@OmniasX We do have another action model we are planning to publish one day (the diagrams are in work now), it called Magic Eye, you may see it in Decoration Gallery, under Various (2nd hall) at Oriland site. So this Magic Eye also rotates and has more colours and more dense structure. Happy folding!
Just some questions, the video and ebook both display only one rotation: outwards from front, and suggest to pinch the folds only from the front, does that mean it will only effectively rotate in that direction, or will others work fine? I am nearly finished with my first star, but it sure does take a while with the semi-complex folds (diagonals on squares for prefect lineups)
@OmniasX The other direction of rotations works fine too! When you fold the star, you will know that. By the way, starting from 2 minute in this video, there is shown rotation from the back side too. Meanwhile, good luck with your first magic star! Happy folding!
For all who is asking for the tutorial - the eBook with the tutorial on how to do ORILAND MAGIC STAR is released!!! Please visit Oriland.com! The price of the eBook is really small, just 8.95, which is quite affordable. And it is fair in respect of how much work placed into the book by the authors. If someone really likes this design and wants to fold it - buying this eBook is the way to support the authors and enjoy folding the original design! Happy folding!
Hello ALL! For all who's asking - Is our Magic Star something like Yami's Firework model - the answer is not, it is not related to this model even close, these are completely different designs! Yumi's Firework is great, but our star is different, it was invented in far 1997 by Yuri Shumakov and it uses the different principle.
@sueonview Yes, it's definitely works for the strips. In our other book "Origami Xmas Ornaments" we show another method of making perfect diagonal folds with the ruler atop the paper, placed to connect the needed dots... Anyway, glad you found it helpful. Good luck with folding the Magic Star!
It is a WONDERFUL book! I found your suggestions of making folds over the edge of a cutting board or long ruler made the diagonal folding so much quick and easier, and the end result was much more accurate.
@sueonview Hello! Thank you for your impressions. Glad to hear you like the book so much! There are always some tricks to make folding easier; glad our suggestions were helpful. Looks like you are folding One-Piece Magic Star :-) Happy folding!
Hello ALL! ORILAND MAGIC STAR eBook is released! Now you can fold these mesmerizing Oriland Magic Stars. Visit Oriland.com for more info. Happy folding!

@OmniasX Magic Eye and Magic Torus use different principles despite their visual similarity. The book is in work, so we will see how it goes.

@OmniasX You are welcome! The stronger paper is advisable. To comprehend the model you may try colour copy paper. Good luck with folding Magic Stars!
