oh my god... the best reggae song ever out of nigeria.... memories from back in the days... new artists take a cue and stop all these rubbish songs you are all singing today.. these guys were the real artists.....
...another classic from the stables of Premier Music. I did grow up with this. Lots of Nostalgia. I think Premier Music was the record label of its time, more like what Kennis was in the early 2000's.
Watch this vedio and you will see how things started degerating a long time ago. Those days, when one got robbed, the armed robbers would take your car along with them and leave you. These days they leave your car and take you along with them! Had our leaders not "closed their eyes to reality" perhaps they would have been able to avert the crisis that now threatens to consume the entire country. May God save us.
I quite agree with ricxiarms, it is such a sorry, and pathetic true to life story been experienced in Nigeria, its over 20 years since this song was released, the situation still remain the same even worst, when will we will the Rat Race come to an End?.....
These philosophers saw the impending dangers in Nigeria decades ago. Listen to the lyrics of this song and you would know that Nigerians did not heed his warning!
When you listen to so many songs that came out of the 80's they sound like prophesies now. There seemed like an awakening then and all these singers were singing about awareness and responsibility but like you said nobody was listening. What legacy have our leaders left todays youth. It is a tragedy.
this song came out when i was in primare 6 in about 1984.We lived in the same neighbourhood at cole street at lawanson surulere-Lagos.He was every child hero in the neighbourhood.
This song came out when? 20/25 years and situation in Nigeria is still the same. Thank God for my life. He helped me change my situation and I am helping my people, one peson at a time.
Yes, sad and beautiful tune indeed. Mandators speaking reality. Till today, Nigeria is still a colony of rat race. So sad. Love this song to bone. Thanks for posting it.
It saddens me to know that since this great song was made over 20 years ago.The situation back in Nigeria has hasnt changed.Rather its gotten worse, the poor, keep getting poorer and the rich, keep getting richer. its a shame and pity. This is not a "moonshine song" its song speaking out about the ills of the Nigerian society. Its a sad situation for an oil rich nation 7th richest oil producing nation. Its shame 20 yrs on nothing is changed.
This song remind me of peggy( may her soul rest in peace) she was the real (mandators) i.e. the writer , composer and finacier ,not victor the singer.
BK: You're absolutely correct! she was the one that did ALL the sacrificing, yet when they made it big, the short idiot Victor just abandoned her and the twins, for some skinny Akwa chick, only for poor Peggy to later just die like that ,( I think she died of a broken heart+ poverty!) without reaping the rewards of her labour!
GOD BLESS YOU PEGGY!
YOU'RE IN A BETTER PLACE, WITH THE ONE WHO TRULY LOVES YOU!!
efey..brotherly u r 2 much o!!!!!!!! much hailing to u.thanks 4 posting this classic......if noe b say u b guy,i 4 like KISS u....thanks bro u made my day.GOD BLESS.
I cried watching this video. I just cried. My siblings, my parents and I - 9 of us - were living in a one room, 'face me I face you' house in Ajegunle when mandators recorded this song. I was barely 10 then but I still remember every word in the song. With my family scathered all over the world today, better houses and material goodies, I do ask myself which episode of my life was happier. Mezie, Isaac, Joe, Mercy, Ekaete... I hope ur heads r above the water wherever u r today.
i hear u my brother and one day all will come together and have a good time....try to keep in touch, cuz me too grow for AJ and i feel u... GOD BLESS...

Ayiomosi, I totally agree with you.
And to think that these singers got very lttle monetary reward then is amazing when compared to the apparent
afflunce of today's singers irrespective of the apparent didactic void in their songs.
You could see that this was a man who
understood the socio-political and economic
dynamics of his time and how the power
relations of the day affected him and
would affect his children. It is this mental
poverty that is now our major problem.
