  • The ex. Conrail unit probably broke down and the other locomotive was sent to rescue the train.

  • I bet that Conrail unit is Black & White now.

  • those are SD70m-2s the new Aces are numbered 1000-1064 i think

  • COOOOL!!!!!!!

  • Damn, how awesome! Rare i would love to get this plus beast k5lla. Nice man

  • thats a good catch my friend

  • who cares about wtf the engine its a freakin train

  • who cares about what thee heck the engine was retard its a freakin train

  • NICE!

    and a Conrail trailing too!

  • Nice catch!!

  • Now thats an awesome site and a great catch...Only NS has the balls to do so ..NS all the way!!!!! 5 star!!.

  • That is INSANE!! one would think long-hood forward would be a SD40-2, not a 70M-2!

Also I want to point out that NS DOES have AC power and will get more. There are only about around a dozen GP38ACs, then you have the 17 of the SD80MACs.

Now to my knowledge, NS has added 84 GEVO ES44ACs and real soon will tack on 25 SD70ACes

  • @CTK1201 The GP38ACs are not AC current. The AC designation on these units means that the locomotive has an alternator instead of a generator. And yes we do have the SD80MAC and some ES44ACs. I haven't heard plans for any new AC power.

  • awesome

  • Great catch. You don't see that everyday.

  • LOL. Now that's a catch! Rare sightt, indeed. Fav'd and Shared.

    -Ted

  • wow only on the NS great video

  • Cool.

  • I feel bad for the engineer and conductor trying to see past those big flared radiators.

  • dang son

  • i've NEVER seen a train runnin long hood.....

  • that's pretty cool!! I've only seen that with GP30-2 high hoods. 10/10 nice rare catch!!

  • Nice ex-Conrail power!

  • sweet catch! i saw a sd70-2 by itself in reverse from a local

  • wow running th at thing long hood first sweet video!!!!

  • Nice Video Kelby My Bro!

  • NS taking a page out of history and making it modern...Very Nice!!!!!

  • Nice, catch, Kelb-o! Rare find when they do this but it happens once in a blue moon-age oh wait...there was a blue moon last night! LOL! Better get at 'em! Five stars!

  • That's what I'm talking about!!! 5* and favorite for SURE!

  • Great catch - don't see that everyday.

It is definitely a DC - you can spot the M2 (dc) from the ACE (ac) by looking below the cab side window (on the side shown) - the ac's have two long grilles running horizontally. Great video - I will certainly subscribe to your channel.

    ant

  • wow. i wish i could get some long hood action. still have yet to see that...

  • Hey man great catch. Are you sure the leading engine wasn't an SD70ACE? Anyways great catch. Long hood forward and Conrail :)

  • @SSKar98k NS dose not own SD70ACEs those are the AC traction version NS prefers DC Traction that's what a SD70M-2 is.

Another example CSX owns AC4400CWs but NS owns C40-9W. However the only AC ns owns is a ES44AC which is used primary for Coal trains.

  • Don't forget the SD80Mac's they aquired when Conrail got split up between CSXT and NS, CSXT got some of those too.

  • @SSKar98k yes im sure thats not an SD70ACe

  • Your right im sorry that was my fault. I thought it was an ace. I appologize for the earlier post.

  • @kfangz it is a SD70ACe

  • @Trainiac1 dude thats an SD70M-2 not an SD70ACe idk where you got SD70ACe from

  • @Trainiac1 fail :p haha jk jk

  • @Trainiac1 It is called an SD70M-2 because it has DC traction motors....SD70ACe's have AC. NS and FEC are the only ones to have SD70M-2's.

  • @Trainiac1 NS does have SD70ACes, but they are numbered in the 1000 series. This unit was numbered in the 2700 series, denoting it as an SD70M-2.

  • @Trainiac1 NS does have some new SD70ACEs but there in the 1000 series. SD70M-2s are in the 2000 series get it right.

  • @Trainiac1 the new aces are numbered in the 1 thousands believe ive seen two of them

  • @Trainiac1 Norfolk Southern doesnt use any sd70ACe's, only sd70m-2's

  • @PRRK4Lover But they do have some SD70ACe's on order.

  • @PRRK4Lover the 1,000 series are SD70ACe's, with a new order coming

  • @hawleywe Have they used them as long as the m-2's? I was misinformed, thought they only used m-2's. my bad

  • @PRRK4Lover lol yeah they ordered their aces in 08 i think. they pretty much stay in virginia

  • @Trainiac1 nope its definitly a SD70M-2

  • Comment removed

  • All of NS units are So far DC built so its a SD70M-2

  • @SSKar98k norfolk southern dosent have any sd70aces, until 2011

  • @SSKar98k hes correct its not refered to a ace the ns love to call them m-2s LOL

  • @fishworldhacker Actually, ACe's and M-2's aren't the same. They may look visually identical, but the M-2's have DC traction motors while the ACe's have AC traction motors.

    SD70M-2 is the correct term.

  • Now THAT would make a serious battering ram for sure! I saw them (NS) do this with an Union Pacific SD70ACe in Austell once, but nothing like running at speed like this! Awesome catch and awesome horn! 5*****!

  • Wow, that poor crew, SD70M-2's are some of the worst locomotives to be running backwards like that.

  • @enr3870 haha yes yes it is, cant see anything on the conductors side doin that. ;)

  • woooow thats very weird, maybe the consist was with the dash 9 leading on the Westbound and they didnt feel like switchin stuff around so they just put the M-2 leading the EB

  • Wow, never thought to see that in my life! Great catch! I bet it's hard for that crew to look out that windown on that big engine. :D

  • Wow, I feel sorry for that crew, Running a 2600/2700 backwards is a big pain.

  • Kelby:

That third unit looks to be a 8935 and not 8835.

  • Thats what you call Southern Style! Great catch too. I saw a coal train once lead by two trash 9's LHF at track speed. Pretty damn cool to see it in person. Those M-2's remind me of the SD45's with the radiators like that.

  • my thought is that conrail dumped

  • I figured that that happened too Charlie. They probably picked up the unit from a swap of another train or picked it up either at Centralia or Princeton.

  • i agree

  • WOWOW! ive never seen a SD70M-2 going Hammerhead. (longhood) style! ive seen C49-9s do that. now thats some rare stuff! Awesome video Keb-a-nator!

  • Interesting... I like it!

    5***** and a fav!!!

  • What the heck?! I know NS runs a lot of old Southern and NW units LHF because they have the switchable controls stands.. but this is insane! Awesome catch -- and nice K5LLA! Good to see 8353, as well. I heard it went to Altoona for repairs and I thought it was gonna get paint soon thereafter. Great catch!!

  • SWEET, nice catch Kelby!

  • holy crud kelby thats so funny but odd and wierd

  • Funny how trains go that fast in reverse
