@FRANCOSKT8 I wouldn't say "no one can beat them". Plenty of amazing bands/musicians came from england. The same can be said for the rest of the world too.

Fucking Brilliant!!' Sorry for the language but I know I'll be forgiven for my French by true fans as this is pure quality all you people who disliked this.. Well, I can't even put you down and show the disrespect you have to a band well above your league ? This piece of real music is over 26 years old and still gives me and proper music fans goose bumps. (i'm 39) Thank you dad for showing me real talent and yes M.K and the gang Man you got it, Your fingers on that guitar is like an angel on a
I can't really understant why this video doesn't have many more views. For God's sake, this is, without a doubt, one of the best perfomances of this song, if not the best. Last 3 minutes are absolutely mind-blowing. Thank you very much indeed, DogSweede for uploading this video in such great quality.
This is relatively before my time, but my god, am I glad my Dad had good taste and introduced me to this! Unbelievable, and unquestionably, the best 11 minutes of music there is.
well this is my second comment for this video. i don't want to tell you again how much i like this song, i did it already (thanks for "like it". i don't want to tell you that it's 23:30 (MET) and i'm enjoying it before i go to bed. it's about the 4 dislikes. HOW can you dislike this song? because of the perfect melody? perfect guitar solo? perfect sax sound? perfect performance? wish i could turn back the time wish i would not be 8 years old wish i could say 1985? wembley? YES! I WAS THERE!
Then I had a friend who was very much into British and European rock bands and turned me on to their stuff that wasn't played as much in NA. But what solidified it for me was 2 things: watching them with Eric Clapton at the Free Nelson Mandela Concert at Wembley and the album "Alchemy"! Both were mind blowing! I just recently re-found my "Alchemy" album and it gets regular play on my Ipod!
While "Money for Nothing", "So Far Away" and "Walk Of Life" was constantly played on the radio, and MTV, I was listening to "Your Latest Trick" and the title track "Brothers In Arms".
Let me just start by saying I love, love love the new HD version! Fantastic! Thanks!
Like most North Americans I was first exposed to Dire Straits with the songs "Industrial Disease" and "Sultans Of Swing". Then it was, of course, the album "Brothers In Arms". And while I liked the album, I found I was more enthralled with the songs that didn't get much air time (at least here).
@TheScully1968Hello! I am from Hungary !Did you know ? Knopfler grandfaters was born in Hungary ? My favuorite song is this! Hello Zoli ! Forever Dire Straits !
They enjoy when they play. You can see it in their faces and this is the most important thing. Their music is full of magic and it will always be like that.
I've watched all the uploaded versions of sultans and this is by far Marks best performance. No doubt the whole Wembly performance is the best you will find on utube no matter which song
The version with Clapton (Wembley 88) is my least favorite, something is missing there, it just doesn't feel right to me. This version is waaaaay better i.m.o. One of my favorites.
@ddstressfree yes, the mandela 88 version of sultans is my least favorite as well. clapton and knopfler are great guitarists and friends, but when they play together, they just sound different. clapton influences the playing and makes it sound more blues-y. it takes a lot of the feeling u get with most dire straits songs out of it. the same goes with walk of life at mandela 88. clapton's solo in it sounds like more "layla" than it does walk of life, if 'ya know wat i mean
@Hobinator17 yea I think I know what ya mean. I watched mandela 88 version of Walk of Life, Clapton's solo in it just sounds so out of place, rather disturbing I must say.
@KnopflerfanXXL Oh how I wish you were right! To me, SoS is an epic masterpiece and absolutely worthy to be praised and adored by all music lovers. I so desperately wish everybody loved this song, held it in high regard, listened to it on a daily basis. Yeah I really wish this were the case. Unfortunately this was just a fool's dream. I've long since learnt that things in life do not always turn out the way we want them to be. (sigh)
Rhythm section is from another world. Mark's choice of licks in the outro solo are fantastic but he's played better solo's for me but just not recorded in as good quality.
How many times I've watched this version of Sultans already? Probabaly more than the number of tulips at Keukenhof Gardens. Look at this man and his guitar! Oh God have mercy on me! I don't think I'll be able to find a cure for this addiction. Certainly not in the next half century or so. It means I'll still be watching and counting when I am at age of...(ah, blank here) ^__^
@Hobinator17 I agree 100%. Best version ever. I had a VHS recording of this show off the original Showtime airing back when it first aired (1985), and eventually wore the tape out. Been looking for a replacement ever since. Even bought a piss-poor copy of it off eBay once. Glad someone finally uploaded an HD version.
I know I've said it before, but to me Sutlans of Swing is without doubt one of the most addicting songs I've ever heard. I am completely hooked and bewitched by it from the first second to the last, no matter how many times I watch and listen. I've watched and listened to every version of this song over and over again, especially Alchemy and Wembley versions, on a daily basis, driving my family nuts. I know it sounds crazy to be so addictive, but I just can't help it. ^^
since years i listen this song three or four times a week. and each time it's a great feeling. these version is one of the best songs ever in music history. thank you very much for this guys......
I'd also like to get a copy of this on DVD but I don't know how to do it, so I just downloaded whole Wembley 85 Concert into my computer (look at the right side then you'll find it: Dire Straits TV-HD - Wembley Arena - 1985).
What a terrific show!! I wish it would be released on official DVD, like Alchemy Live and On the Night Live (both I have bought from Amazon.uk). But so far no such luck.
anyone know where i an get a copy of this on dvd or any other format ??? my sacred copy was lost in a tragic accidentinvolving a vcr and a glass of cola :(
Since i heard this video for about a year ago , i cant wait 2 days to enjoy it again and again and again , simply the best rock performance ever!!!!!!!!!!
@mughjatori It's a Schecter, made in England, built almost exactly like a real Strat, but "tougher" for touring. They made a few guitars for Mark over the years, and they could get away with it without being sued because the guitars were given to Mark, and were never for sale.
Amazing! If no part of this video can get any of your body moving you must be clinically dead. I simply cannot sit still throughout the entire song. I wish I could have been there to see this live, but as I wasn't I'll keep playing it over and over
only mark can play the same 10 notes for an entire song but make them sound so perfect and unique

Amazing! If no part of this video can get any of your body moving you must be clinically dead. I simply cannot sit still throughout the entire song. I wish I could have been there to see this live, but as I wasn't I'll keep playing it over and over
