I am thinking about joining the National Guard and if I do I want to be part of the Military Police. Can any MPs out there tell me what ait is going to be like? Is it harder than bct? What is deployment going to be like for MP? (the more detail the better)

@AmericanGMS MP's mostly gurad bases and transport prisoners or supplies. They not called to the front lines, they are the closest you will get to combat without being in a combat unit like infantry. They do see combat but its rare.

Nope. This may have been true many years ago, but with the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, you couldn't be more wrong. In many cases, the MPs became more of a combat arms force than combat support. They regularly got deployed overseas into combat zones, and they didn't just guard bases. They actively patrolled areas, several of which were hostile.
@M4CARBINE556 I ship out for Basic OSUT training at Ft. LWood, MO on Feb 13 2012 as a 31B Military Police. When I chose this job there was only 1 position available for it and I got it luckily. This is a hard job to get actually. It may take you going to MEPS several times to get it. You just need to have a good credit score, have some good people to use as references. Best of luck to you.
I was in C787 MP company but at that time the mos designation was 95b. I did my OSUT at Ft McClellan Alabama. That base has since closed and the training has moved to Ft Leonard Wood MO. I was stationed there for a year and deployed to Cuba, I was also in Ft Greely Alaska. I miss the military on occasion.
sorry,just from what i heard lately from a new recruit said air force has no hell weeks or cold showers.warm dorms to sleep in,sounded easier than other branches..

Military Police require honesty, integrity, and leadership. A score on a test doesn't mean those qualities are overlooked. Think of that overused saying "Do The Right Thing", not what you want to do or what your buddies want to do. We all make our own decisions as adults.
It was sketchy; the kid who hosted it claimed it was his aunt's, turns out he broke into it. 20 kids get slapped with criminal trespassing and, the charge that screwed me, burglary (by illegally entering a private structure). Army considers any adjucated judgement, like pre-trial-intervention, a guilty plea/conviction, and is certainly unwilling to provide a waiver given our economy :/

@TheNSD17 they are doing the combat life saver coarse where you learn how to put a iv in somebodys are. they arent taking blood there. OSUT is about 20 weeks i beleive. i just enlisted last week and i leave in Feb. for Ft Leonard wood.

@TheNSD17 i signed up last wed. im in NJ and i did my meps stuff at Ft Dix in NJ. yeah all the jobs they are filling now are for next year and i know they are doing mostly February and maybe some of march idk. If you go MP thats where you go is Ft leonard wood MO. you also get like 7 or 8 shots at reception when you first get there, before basic actually starts.

I'm pretty sure they do CLS but don't do syringes or IV's anymore because they say how they can't afford the syringes for testing (which I think it a bad thing but I still don't like needles lol). I'm still looking at the Marine Corp MP before I make my mind for Army MP. Right now is a good time to enlist in jobs you like I guess because it's recruiting season. Did you get a bonus for enlisting or no?
@TheNSD17 nope no bonus, very few jobs are getting bonus's anymore because so many people are joining the military these days.. i almost took a job with EOD and i would have got 20k but its not the job i wanted. i wouldnt expect a bonus unless you get lucky

@539thMPDET i did well i guess. i passed all my tests the first time and the gas chamber was a little bad. they had one false mask which didnt work when u got in the chamber and that was me. once i stepped in and they lit the gas i was the only one coughing and all and everyone else was just standing there. my airborne was done at Ft. Benning, GA. it was also good, actually way cool to jump out of a plane. but when u get to your unit its the OC Spray that is the worst. i hated that but it was ok

@goxarmy can i ask you a question how much runing did you do i mean i know you have to run but is it more runing than trainging cuz i am not a very good runner
i went through this from nov '09-april '10. The amount of running and PT you do depends on your company. you have 5 phases of PT tests you have to take. the training you do wearing all your gear (full battle rattle) actually strengthens yours legs and builds stamina. your running will get much better, just dont quit no matter how much it sucks and push yourself, you'll be fine.
I'm going to Ft. Leonardwood, MO March 1st to be an MP, is there any current MP that can tell me how intense the training will be? How much should I prepare physically?

What the hell is with them taking blood? They like make you bleed out until you pass out? Lol...one girl had smelling salts in front of her nose. How many times do you get blood taken at OSUT, just once? Any elaborate on this...

@TheNSD17 they are doing the combat life saver coarse where you learn how to put a iv in somebodys are. they arent taking blood there. OSUT is about 20 weeks i beleive. i just enlisted last week and i leave in Feb. for Ft Leonard wood.

@TheNSD17 im pretty sure everybody had to do it, but i heard they are phasing that out of training so i will probably not have to do it by the time i even go in Feb. i wouldnt worry about it man. i wouldnt give up on a job i wanted because of that, i dont wanna do that either but if i gotta do it then i do. its only through training then prolly wont have to do it again.

By the way when did you sign up and where? I talked to my recruiter today and he said the next class wasn't until febuary in ft. leonard wood, MO. Are you in massachusetts?

@TheNSD17 i signed up last wed. im in NJ and i did my meps stuff at Ft Dix in NJ. yeah all the jobs they are filling now are for next year and i know they are doing mostly February and maybe some of march idk. If you go MP thats where you go is Ft leonard wood MO. you also get like 7 or 8 shots at reception when you first get there, before basic actually starts.

@svtpower03 I'm not too worried about the shots bro, it's just the CLS course. I mean I pass out when they take blood already. So why have me turn pastey white for nothing? They gonna MAKE me do it after I pass out? I mean c'mon. I could probably do it on someone but not have it done to me. The only shot that I'm worried about is the small pox one. My brother said it hurt like a bastard and still has a mark from it. If I can get away without doing IV training then I will definetly join MP soon.

@svtpower03 I'll have to ask my recruiter. I'm pretty sure they do CLS but don't do syringes or IV's anymore because they say how they can't afford the syringes for testing (which I think it a bad thing but I still don't like needles lol). I'm still looking at the Marine Corp MP before I make my mind for Army MP. Right now is a good time to enlist in jobs you like I guess because it's recruiting season. Did you get a bonus for enlisting or no?

@TheNSD17 nope no bonus, very few jobs are getting bonus's anymore because so many people are joining the military these days.. i almost took a job with EOD and i would have got 20k but its not the job i wanted. i wouldnt expect a bonus unless you get lucky

@539thMPDET i did well i guess. i passed all my tests the first time and the gas chamber was a little bad. they had one false mask which didnt work when u got in the chamber and that was me. once i stepped in and they lit the gas i was the only one coughing and all and everyone else was just standing there. my airborne was done at Ft. Benning, GA. it was also good, actually way cool to jump out of a plane. but when u get to your unit its the OC Spray that is the worst. i hated that but it was ok

i went through this from nov '09-april '10. The amount of running and PT you do depends on your company. you have 5 phases of PT tests you have to take. the training you do wearing all your gear (full battle rattle) actually strengthens yours legs and builds stamina. your running will get much better, just dont quit no matter how much it sucks and push yourself, you'll be fine.
