Two movies really marked me as a kid: "Tourist Trap" and "The Sentinel". I just recently watched The Sentinel again and, as I suspected, it's not very creepy anymore. I'm wondering how scary this would be.
@dookdawg214 lol I know what you mean. I remember watching Sleepy Hollow when I was 6 or 7 and I thought it was the ultimate horror movie (kept my eyes shut through most of it) but now I'm 18 and I watched it again and it didn't give me the same effect. I was sort of disapointed :(.
how old were you when you saw this? i was 10 and creeped me out, one of the best creepy mannequin horror movies. One of my fave horror movies! sort of like Magic meets Hills Have Eyes
@Johnlindsey289 I was 6 when i first saw this and it freaked me out big time, especially the opening scene. It's a really creepy film in the same spirit as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Deranged, Hills Have Eyes, Just Before Dawn, Motel Hell etc. Those mannequins still creep me out.
@TheAltair4 the 2005 movie house of wax didnt rip off anything, house of wax is a remake of a movie that came out in the 50s or something like that. tourist trap came out in 1978
@Zooroonies You obviously haven't seen the classic 1953 Vincent Price film because it bears virtually no resemblance to the 2005 film. Yes, the 2005 film completely ripped this movie off and they slapped the title House of Wax on it just to try and cash in on the whole remake craze. It's called an "in name only" remake.
I wish I had that mask of the laughing mannequin which sounds like the laugh from crash bandicoot for halloween this monday, could literally raise hell > D
In the 80s sweden this movie was one of the biggest horror movies to be released on VHS.
Together with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this movie caused hysteria and created the so called "Video Violence". Kids rented these movies with no knowledge that it was horror movies. Parents got pissed and started debates. GREAT TIMES!!
I have this on video and regard it as one of the creepiest and scariest movies I've ever seen. Probably the scariest mannequin movie ever made. Thanks.
Need help! I'm looking for a film containing mannequins, but they came to life in a town and all I remember from this film, was a mannequin with a wedding dress on, her hand opened up revealing bullets. These mannequins were shooting everyone in the town.
I've watched Tourist trap, but it's not the film I was looking for. Please help. I want to watch this horror film that I'm looking for
@KingTekins You right, many believe that it was indeed a remake of Tourist Trap. But they instead decided to market it as a House of Wax remake, since the original starring Vincent Price was such a huge box-office hit.
I can see where this movie would creep people out. The mannequins alone would scare the crap out of me with their big mouths opening like the way they do. If you ever wanted to make a kid have nightmares then this is the movie to show them. LOL
This is one of the creepier movies of the era. Really underrated little film with a seriously dark undertone and eerie atmosphere. The mannequins are truly frightening, and the ending...well, you'll have to watch. Great little fright flic.
The scariest part of the film is where the killer ties the girl up and covers her face in plaster. And while he's doing it, he describes to her how it will feel when she suffocates and how her lungs will feel like they're burning. As a kid, I remember being horribly traumatized by that scene. Scary stuff.
This movie was freaky as a kid and funnily enough carries the same warped feel about it even today for me. Even though the special effects are quite lame in comparison to todays cinema, it is far more creepy than most of it.
Anyone ever see that movie pin? The guy ends up thinking he is the human anatomy doll or something along those lines? Another warped film indeed.
Hi, I'm A Media Studies Student At a College And I Would Appreciate It Very Much If You Took Quick Look at My Teaser Trailer For My New Up Coming Movie... !!
this is a heck of a classic! XD I loved this movie to death. I mean, come on! a psychic slasher?! we never came up with something like that anymore which makes this a special and unique slasher!
i just love this movie! 1978! i wasnt even born yet! i was born in the year of Friday The 13th part 2...1981! and grew up watching the rest of Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger! hahaha. But when i watched this movie a couple of days ago, i really appreciate it! "pretty little gurl!"
This was a little known but creepy little flick from the '70's. Oddly enough, there was very little gore at all in this film, and yet it was far more creepier than a lot of the over-the-top splatter epics that the public has been tortured with as of late.
That is what most horror are missing today. They are to caught up on special effects and not suspense. Plus there isnt much orginal ideas out there and so much remakes are being made this decade. That is why when paranormal activity came out it did so well because of how it used suspense.
@scatman813 I agree wholeheartedly. I believe "Blair Witch Project" (although the idea has been ridden into the ground now by imitators and one could make the case that even "BWP" borrowed its idea from a '70's splatter film) was so popular because of the suspense and genuine scares it delievered even though there were no FX at all in the movie. (I've not gotten around to seen "Paranormal Activity" but it's on my "get list".)
I don't know why you've got 5 marks against you. It was 6 but I got it down to 5. Best I could do. Anyway you're absolutely right, all Hollywood do these days is either remakes or over the top big blockbuster films. If they remade this it would be full of over the top special effects. It would just be a typical 21st century over the top pile of cack.
It'd star a bunch of pretty faces in stereotypical roles, it'd play out like a Hills episode, and all the atmosphere and creepiness would be replaced by predictable jump out scares. The killer wouldn't even wear a cool mask, and there probably wouldn't be any creepy mannequins anywhere. So hopefully, this won't get remade. But shit, they're starting to remake the ones like House on Sorority Row, so this will probably be up for a remake soon. Damn hollywood.
I love this flick... I saw it again recently and it still holds up from when I saw it the first time back in the early 80's... just all creepy and weird... no overdone blood... just madness and mayhem...
that does look like the house of wax yet it looks very creepy, i was gona ask what the guy was putting on the womans face but im guessing that he was making her face into a mask just like what happened to the guy from supernatural in the movie house of wax.
This just kinda looks like House of Wax, but sketchier because its dolls. And wow, i believe that I saw a man jumping out of a window!? Gosh, theres a first in horror movies.
This movie scared the living crap out of me when I was a kid, and it's still pretty creepy to me now. I love the way it's just kind of like a nightmare - disturbing things happen, and there's no explanation, just like a bad dream. Scary as hell!!!

Totally. My sister and I were being babysat at our parents friends house, in rural New Jersey. This was like 81'/82'. This movie came on public TV, we were totally terrified and transfixed. The movie stayed with us; we watched it again about 4 years ago. Totally rad...

Strange really, terrible trailer but excellent film! Really a very subtle film with beautiful music. Very imaginative. Really, the film is about loneliness and the things it can do to the human mind. It makes Slausen both superhuman but also subhuman.
The music for "Tourist Trap" was done by Pino Donaggio, who also did the soundtracks for "Carrie" (1976 version), "Dressed To Kill" and "Body Double". His film music is outstanding!
Thank you. Yes the score certainly brings out the subtleties of the film. Those other films you mentioned also had excellent scores, though I haven`t seen Body Double yet.
yeah shitty movie...mr schmoeller was never a good director...98 percent of the movie industry and critics knows & thinks the same ...pfff...why to compare it with chainsaw massacre?... chainsaw is a classic... this is ...just at best...ridiculously funny and i dont think that it was schmoeller initial real intention ahahaha
The narrator in this clip is Danny Dark. He was most known as the voice actor for Superman in the 70's-80's SuperFriends cartoons. He was also well known for commercials, like Keebler products.
Two movies really marked me as a kid: "Tourist Trap" and "The Sentinel". I just recently watched The Sentinel again and, as I suspected, it's not very creepy anymore. I'm wondering how scary this would be.

It's really a scary movie, much better than a lot of the stupid horror movies made for cinema at the present time.

After watching this movie recently I have no doubt that the recent "House of Wax" movie copied a lot from this.
eminboztepe 3 years ago
No the original House Of Wax was before this the recent one was a remake from the original
ParisHiltonLover2 3 years ago
I was talking about the remake, not the original.
eminboztepe 3 years ago
I actually wouldn't mind seeing a remake of this.

It's nothing like HOW or Friday the 13th it's completely on its own as far as I can tell (it's telekinesis Kyle!). It's a creepy little film :)

The narrator in this clip is Danny Dark. He was most known as the voice actor for Superman in the 70's-80's SuperFriends cartoons. He was also well known for commercials, like Keebler products.
