the part about this song that kills me every time is how he ends it on a real monotone. The last "The old main drag" just makes you remember that this isn't a happy song and that the upbeat tone shouldn't water down the despiration the person who wrote this felt.
Its like a cruel reminder of what the song is actually about.
@Antipolicestate Good point. They seemed to have a habit of things like that. Dirty Old Town is in major keys until the end,they hit the E Minor just to give you that sinking feeling. Bastards!

That there is a Old Style or "Sean Nos" thing. A lot of old Irish singers would always finish by speaking the last line of the song.
