The VIC-20 is good evidence that the 2600 version of Pac Man could have been far better than it was. There obviously wasn't enough memory to draw the full maze, but the graphics weren't far from the arcade version and the VIC-20 was comparable in specs to a 2600.
@gamewizard Nope. The 2600 had a horizontal resolution of 40 (2.5 bytes that had to be repeated) and 128 bytes of 'RAM' on a RIOT chip...and graphics had to be drawn line by line The Vic20 had a definable character set and sprites.
There are homebrew versions of Pac Man for the 2600 that look a lot closer to the arcade than what we got from Atari. The 2600 is capable of a lot better.
This is not a bad version of Pac-Man

The best Vic20 pacman was Commodore Jelly Monsters was available on ROM cartridge.
Far superior to this version and was so good Commodore was sued by Atari and they discontinued it.
