I don't find any of that original. As long as you get the words correctly and the chord progression is in tact then you have done a successful rendition. By saying you and your band have respect enough to learn every single part correctly doesn`t make it a better cover and doesn`t make you a better act.

What gave me the upper hand is the fact that I started on drums when I was 6. Been meaning to show some of my chops one of these days.

My only advice would be to play along with as much music as possible and really listen to as much music as possible to develop a great ear, very important.

Keep it up man, we all have the music, rythm and spirit but we just gotta tap into it.
