  • @shantee4 We love to share our aviary and youtube is a great way to do it! Thanks for leaving a comment! Do you know Kevin or just a fan? I remember seeing him on Idol.

    Peace!

  • @naddog180 Kevin's from my hometown. He was the 2009 winner of America's Got Talent. We are going to expand out aviary, so I'm looking around for ideas. Thanks again for sharing!

  • One of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. And my little Kakariki family likes it too!

  • @Imonetone Well thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to my aviary. How's the weather been up there in the north? I hope your feathered friends are all doing well!

    Peace!

  • it must be really enjoyable coming out in the mourning and watch this amazing birds fly, i wish you the best with this animals, and hope you produce a lot of them. i have a smaller aviary with society finches and canaries. im more into the smaller birds i have spanish timbrados.

  • @yosbelorenzo Yes, I enjoy it every day! especially since I reworked the pond system this summer. Canaries and finches are very cool. I had some when i was young. Thanks for visiting and commenting!

  • Hey dude! Can I ask - what materials have you used to build this aviary? I'm about to build a large walk-through one myself, and wondering what the best materials are? Any tips? :)

  • @TarynBirdWoman Hey Taryn! Good to hear from you again. I started off just thinking a lot about how I wanted it to set in my yard and then outlined the shape I wanted. I used 12 foot 4x4 Pressure treated for my posts. Doug holes and set a foot and a half in concrete and that left 10 1/2 feet above ground... plenty of room for flying. I tied the posts together at the top with pressure treated 2x6's.

  • Once the frame of the aviary was finished I began attaching the 1 inch by 2 inch Aviary netting to the inside of the frame so that the parrots couldn't get to the pressure treated (PT) wood. It would probably be easier to put the netting on the outside to the frame but I was worried about the birds chewing the PT and being poisoned. The supports for the top netting I used regular wood (not treated) because the birds could get to that and now...

  • wow wild conures, where do u live?

    south america?

  • @ajlorikeet central Florida.

  • The best way to start your morning. I know this feeling.

  • @b64lrm It's a good feeling, hope you enjoyed your visit!

    Peace!

  • Wow, what a set up you have here! Very nice! Wish I could do something like this for mine! My parents live over there where you do and I see budgies flying wild all the time. (or used to) . :)) I'll bet all those birds keep you really really busy! LOL

  • @mysteryglo Yes my birds have it pretty good. We just had a lost hungry cockatiel come visit and we are trying to find a home for now. The wild conures will sometimes come visit us also. Never a dull moment around here.

  • Amazing! What a beautiful setup. I'm sitting here with my Nanday and she's chatting away to all the noise, esp. the other nandays. Thanks for sharing your beautiful aviary with us. :-)

  • Thanks! Yes if you have a good set of speakers it sounds like all the birds are right there! Glad you both enjoyed your visit!

    Peace!

  • Great set up mate ! How I wish I lived in a place like yours. You probably don't want to go anywhere else. Beautiful !

  • Well actually there are lots of places I would like to go... I used to be quite the traveler in my youth, but with all the animals we have... it is hard to get away! But if you have to be stuck somewhere this is not too bad of a place to be!! Ha! Remember... careful what you wish for!

    Glad you enjoyed the visit!

    Peace!

  • I don't sell birds. Just give them a home. Some times I give them away if I find a nice home for one.

    Peace!

  • wHAT WAS THAT THAT YOUR DOG TOOK OUT OF THE CAGE IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO? WHERE DO YOU LIVE THAT YOU CAN HAVE A GREAT OUTDOORS AVIARY LIKE THIS?

  • I think he was just getting a ball out from under a chair on the deck. He loves to chase the ball. I live in Pinellas County Florida.

    Peace!

  • hey im having trouble figuering out my budgies genders. and how do i get them in breeding condition. ? apparently they are a male and female... not in breeding condition. can you help me? the males 2 years and the female is 1 and 2 months

  • I'm not an expert at breeding birds but a place to nest seemed to be what got mine started. I built nest boxes. They took it from there. I think that budgies have blue across the top of their beak and pink or fleshy color for the females. Hope this helps.

  • how can u i know if the parrots is male or female...some tips pls....thanx....

  • It is difficult to tell the sex of most amazon parrots as the coloring is the same. The surest way is with a blood test they now have, though If you are familiar with they're behaviors that can be an indicator as well. Of course if you build a nest box and an egg is laid... Female! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas in Norway!

    Peace!

  • omg love it realy wish i cud

  • Thanks for the visit and comment!

    Peace!

  • Help I Just got a boy parrakeet for my girl parrakeet and she hates him he tries to go near her and she pecks at him and flyies away i just got him fir her today any Tips??

  • If those are the only two birds, I'd just give it some time, but make sure that there is enough space for her to get away if she wants. Don't want any injuries. Are they in a new cage? If he is being put into her cage, she may feel like he is invading her territory. Both into an unfamiliar cage may make a difference. Let me know how it goes!

    Peace!

    Willie

  • This is SUCH an amazing aviary!!!!! I'm so impressed. I wish I had one like this for my babies! Thank you for taking such good care of your birds. :)

  • Thanks for stopping by! I watched a few of your vids and subbed to your channel. I hope some day you will be able to get the property you'd like and hopefully find someone who could watch after things so you could actually get away for a vacation! I can totally relate to that problem. I've had many of my birds for over 11 years now and have not been able to get away for long.

    Peace to you!

    Willie

  • WOW, thats wonderfull. Good job!

  • Thanks! Just got in from giving them all their before bed snacks!

    Peace!

  • Amazing aviary! What an amazing bird owner you are. Peace. ;)

  • Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! I just wish I could spend more time with them.

    Peace!

  • Well done..Everything is so natural

  • Thanks! I think the birds like it!

  • Thank-you for sharing your paradise

    with us,really enjoyed it.

  • Glad to have you visit! Thanks for commenting. I really need to make a new one of these for an update... maybe high Def!

    Peace!

  • I plan to build an aviary like yours ... that is my dreams when I move into my retirement home... I'll to be able to seat and enjoy them and have them outdoors in a natural environment.

  • Will that be soon?? I just came in from feeding my birds their evening snacks. I wish I could retire soon but I have to keep working to feed all my animal friends! Ha!

    Peace my friend!

    Willie

  • are some of ur birds amazons

  • Why Yes! Some are!

    Peace!

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!freaking kool. plz don't mind my language but wow!

  • Thanks! Happy to wow you!

    Peace!

  • Great birds and aviary. What do you do during winter chilly nights ?

I ask as in Miami and have birds but bring them in when night temps below 50 degrees.

Its rare but happens. I heard no need to bring them in as long as day is warm which is why asked you .

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the comment! My birds stay out unless it gets below freezing. Then I feel that they would be happier inside. My iguanas come in when it gets under 50 degrees f and I always check my naked Bluefront when it gets cold to see if she wants to come in. She usually won't unless it is in the 30's. Fortunately, as you say, in Florida we don't have that many cold days. I do bring them all is for hurricanes!!

    Peace!

    Willie

  • Thank you very much very intereting and helpfull info

  • I sure enjoyed that!

  • I'm Glad you came for a visit!

    Peace!

  • muy bonito aviario yo apenas stoy haciendo el mio te felicito

  • Muchas Gracious! I appreciate the visit and the comment!

    Peace!

  • Beautiful aviary! have a nice day.

  • Thanks Raven! The days are wonderful!

    Peace!

  • Where is this at.? Are you inside a very lg cage? or are you out in your back yard?

You must live somewhere where niebors are not an issue..We also have many parrots mostly cockatoos and they do live alsmost cage free in are home..but this is a dream to be able to allow them out side to fly and play with out complaints

    Enjoy or video

  • Yes a very large cage in our back yard! The neighbors have never complained in the 12 years since I started it. Most say they like the tropical sounds. (thank goodness for air-conditioning and closed windows! Ha! We are down here in sunny Florida!

  • I enjoyed watching!

  • Glad you enjoyed! Looks like you have a nice keet! Try making another vid sometime! I always like to see other's birds.

    Peace!

  • There are many that stop by. I have raised 4 or five by hand and they are friendly regulars to the aviary, then there are another few that have gotten used to me and will take peanuts by hand. Most are to nervous and wait till I move away from the feeder.(Peanuts corn and sunflower)

  • did you just feed a squirrel that just stopped by?

  • Thanks! The only animals that get in actually live under the rocks in the pond are the rats. I bring the food in every night because of them. They have never messed with the birds that I know of but the birds have chased them if they are out in the day time. Occasionally Squirrels get in and eat the food. I usually can find where and close it.

  • Nice aviary! What are the challenges you face maintaining such a large aviary? Do you ever have problems with unwanted animals trying to get in and harm the birds?

  • I've been replacing the wood with more expensive longer lasting wood as the untreated wood from the top wears out. It's 11 years old now and the non pressure treated wood is decaying. The main supports 4x4x12 ft are PT, set in concrete and are holding up nicely.

    Peace!

  • why have you got squirrels and birds running round your yard or is it just a giant aviary.

  • Yes, it is a giant aviary... the squirrels are on the outside. Thanks for commenting!

  • ur dog is pesky and cute!

  • Yes, he loves to play throw the ball! They are both great dogs and they get along with all the squirrels, but they don't like rats!

  • nice man I must admit!

  • Thanks!

  • Hello sir! I like your aviary idea. also I enjoyed your birds and theyre singing. Im alos a bird lover but I like African love birds. I soon be doing my aviary in the philip[pines where my home at. mIm here abroad to work I missed my birds and by sharing your video its fun.

  • I'm glad you were able to watch my birds and have it make you feel better! Good luck with your aviary and I hope you are not away from your birds for long!

  • yeah thanks for raply Sir. It would be around two or 3 years more go back and forth fromwork to home and have a vacation in my country. here in South Korea where I work ass of now. its been 2 years now I'm staying here. if you vist my country I am glad if you can drop by in our home... So can you give me a link of the background music you used here?they are great band i like theyre music, soft in the ear...

    thanks and best regards

  • I wish they would pass a law-no aviary -then no birds allowed. I think this a great example to show everyone with birds. Thanks for sharing your wonderful aviary.

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Just came in from out there... maybe I need to post a new vid of the aviary... ??

  • Very nice! I can just imagine sitting on that bench with a morning coffee watching all the activity.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed the visit! It is a nice way to spend a morning!

  • Wow, what an aviary you have there! My two birds would love something like that! Do you live somewhere where it is warm all year long? If not, how do you keep them warm in the winter? Sometimes I wish I hadn't gotten cats since I now have to keep mine caged.. It's so sad, I think! Thanks for posting this!

  • Yes! I also live here in Pinellas County. I did have to bring a few of them in when we had that few days it got into the 30's but most of they time they just hang out side unless we have a hurricane! Then I bring all of them in! Our cats have always appreciated to bite of our birds and have really not paid a lot of attention to them. The two youngest cats I still keep an eye on if they are around a lose bird. They haven't been bit yet! They never bother the macaw!! (Smart cats)

  • Hi I have 8 different species of parrots

can i put them together in my huge aviary?

I love how peaceful your aviary looks.

How do you protect them in bad weather?

  • Thanks for visiting! Yes it is I nice start to my day!

  • You have a truly beautiful aviary what a wonderful way to start your day

  • Wonderful video! I love the outdoor aviary. We are hoping one day to build one for our parrots. It's wonderful seeing the birds enjoying it so.

  • Thanks for the visit. I hope your parrots soon get the chance to fly in the one you plan on building. They do enjoy it!

    Peace!

  • That's very relaxing to watch. I'm sure that actually being there is even better. It's nice to see someone who likes nature and animals that much. It must be nice to live in a place where you can have an outdoor aviary, especially one of that size. Nice work and nice video!

  • Thanks for commenting on my vid. It is a great place to just sit and relax in the afternoons in the hanging chairs. Built it around 10 years ago and have never regretted it!

    Peace!

  • lovely aviary if you dont mind me asking what are the dimensions?its nice to give the room to fly check out my zebra finch videos they have lots of room to fly!!!!!!!

  • The longest dimensions are 33 feet by 44 feet and about 10.5 feet tall. They seem to enjoy flying a lot. I'll check! Thanks for the comment!

    Peace!

  • thanks alot for replying i thinking of building a large aviary when my new house is built and yours is a nice size!thanks again!

  • how did you build it slash were can i find instruction to build

  • With my own two hands, I came up with the plan by walking around the area I planned to build it for a couple of weeks until it seemed clear in my head what I wanted to do. Then I started and adapted my plan to the reality of actually building it as I went. Of course after having built it there are things that I have been changing and would do differently after going through the experience. I'm sure that doesn't help much, but you can always write back with more questions!

  • Big, beautiful aviary. I'm so glad to see the birds have plenty of room to fly. Five Stars for your video and Five Stars for your aviary!

  • Thanks! The whole idea was to have them be able to fly when they wanted. I subbed to your site. You do some great work!

  • wow...how big is this aviary?it seem like a bird park~~can i know what parrots are you keeping?if i am not mistaken, u have lorikeet...

  • There are blue front Amazons, yellow napes amazons, a red lored amazon, a handicapped blue and gold macaw, some red lored/yellow nape hybrids, a mexican conure and a sun conure. (No lorikeets- we don't have any of those but they are very cool birds!) We also have some old world birds but they don't live or visit the outdoor aviary.

Thanks for the visit and comment!

  • i also see nanday conures.

  • Where is this Florida???

  • Yep. Florida!

  • it is a very big cage with beautiful birds

  • Thanks! Yes, it is quite big, but gives them a lot of room to exercise!

  • WOW! WHAT A GREAT SET UP!!!

  • Thanks! I like it! I appreciate the comment!

    Peace!

  • Awesome....great job!

  • Thanks! It was a lot of work but worth it.

  • I want to build an aviary for my precious lovely cocatiels I am woundering if you can give me information on how you built your aviary, thanks

  • I remember that there was an awful lot of thinking about how to lay it out and how I was going to put the top on. I ended up deciding the easiest was to just make the top flat at 10 and a half feet. But I did an awful lot of just walking around looking at the area and thinking about the project. I didn't rush it and when I felt pretty sure that is when I began.I used pressure treated 4x4's on the outside so the birds would be inclined to chew on them and on the inside...

  • I'm now using IPE also known as ironwood for anything inside that the birds can get to. It is very expensive but all natural and so hard I've never seen the birds chew on it. You have to pre-drill holes for the nails to go through or they will just bend. I know that wasn't a detailed list but If you need more info let me know!

  • Thanks naddog :)) Im actuallyb getting my ex-hubby to come build it for me this weekend, we will be useing pressure treated wood . However someone told me that the chemicals in P.T. Wood can actually harm the birds if they chew it, Do you think that is true?

  • Sorry I didn't get to you quicker. Definitely true one of the preservatives is poison arsenic, one of the reasons that they stopped using it in playground equipment! I doubt that cockatiels have enough beak power to chew it very much still I'd make sure there was a lot of other wood that they would prefer to chew.

  • Thank you so much for the information! You are a great help :) God bless you

  • How did your Aviary come out??

  • Hey! thanks for asking:) we built it in the backyard ontop of concrete slab. It is made out of pressure treated wood cause that was all we could find, and we built a roof out of shingles. It very strong and it looks beautiful. I put 2 hanging flower baskets in the front and lots of branches for them and a bird bath. It is approx, 8' x 8' x 9', not as big as yours, but its good enough for 3 cockatiels. It cost approx $700

  • 700 well spent!! Sounds great! Thanks!

  • Never really kept track so I just went back two months from today and was able to identify about 230 spent on birds and squirrels that doesn't count dogs cats and vet bills!! There goes my retirement! Doh!

  • I really hope I can do that someday!

  • A lot of work you really have to love em! If so, some day you might!

  • Huge aviary.

  • Most people are surprised when they com into the back yard!

  • There are blue front Amazons, yellow napes amazons, a red lored amazon, a handicapped blue and gold macaw, some red lored/yellow nape hybrids, which you may be thinking are the yellow fronted amazons (we don't have any of those), a mexican conure and a sun conure. We also have some old world birds but they don't live or visit the outdoor aviary.

Thanks for the visit and comment!

  • I noticed you fed a squirrel and then I saw some others running around on top of the aviary. If they are like squirrels in Missouri, they can gnaw through practically anything to get bird seed. Do they cause damage to the facility?

  • Occasionally they can get into the aviary and eat bird seed but I usuall figure out how they are getting in a devise a way to block them. They have never tried to eat through the wire. And my wife and I do feed the squirrels regularly so there isn't an urgency for them to get in the aviary plus there are tons of acorns in the trees.

    Peace!

  • That is amazing! You're a fantastic bird owner. How long did it take you to build that aviary? Was the cage wire expensive?

  • Thanks! As I recall I spent about two weeks on each stage. The first thing that was built was the pond 11 years ago and that took a few days. Then I built the first half of the aviary a year later. When we were getting a blue and gold macaw we decided to expand it a couple of years after that to it's current size. The aviary netting (wire) was the most expensive part. At the time it was around a thousand for the whole aviary. Probably a lot more now.

    Peace!

  • Then of course I had to build a deck, then knock out a window to put in French Doors to get to the deck, and on and on... The joys of home ownership!

    Ha!

  • Amazing!! Are all these your pets or do you rescue these?? I wish the weather in mo. would allow for something like this I would LOVE to have this but right now i have parakeets and finches! BEAUTIFUL love it!

  • Some are our pets that we purchased for the aviary 10 years ago, some were born in the aviary and others were given to us to provide a home for. One I bought in 1981 when she was a year old... or at least that was what I was told. Yes, it would be a bit cold for Parrots during the winter. Parakeets and finches would be better for indoors... not as loud! Ha!

    Peace!

    Willie

  • that is soooo cool im working on building a small aviary for my living room i hope to get a bigger bird soon going to do my home work first!!! and it is cool that you had a bird since 1981 thats when i was born!

  • Thanks! Now I feel really old!

    LOL!

Definitely do your homework and remember and can be a life long commitment!

    Peace

  • Great job on this avairy. Looks like it's large & has it's own water features. Your birds look very happy. Any problems with snakes or other critters with an outdoor avairy?

  • Yes it is pretty big... most people are surprised when we invite them back to see the aviary. The rats are a problem at night and I wish we had some snakes to control them! We recently picked up some kittens that we hope will help. I'll post some new vids of them soon.

    Thanks for the visit!

    Willie

  • great plase!!How cold does it get in winter, and do you have any problem with the weather??

  • Thanks! Not too cold. It's pretty mild here in Florida. We had one night down to around 36 degrees F. If it get very cold, we have a large enclosed room where we set up cages and bring the birds in. We do the same for hurricanes.

    Peace!

    Willie

  • this is a very nice aviary! you did great. i hope to have an aviary after i have my own place later down the road...just a quick question...how many birds do you have in your aviary? keep making those awesome animals happy!

  • Thanks for visiting and the comment! We have 20 parrots right now and 15 to 17 of them spend either all or part of their time in the aviary. Good luck to you and your aviary in the future!

    Willie

  • Wonderful! You have created a fabulous place for your parrots, they are lucky to have found you!

  • Thanks, They are fun to watch and hang with! I appreciate the visit and comment!

    Willie

  • they have got to be the happiest birds i hav ever seen! well done!

wat type of pellets do u feed them and would u know how i could get my birds to start eating fruit and veggys ??

  • Oops! I thought I answered this before but I see that I didn't. Sorry! My birds actually eat a combination of pellets (larger colored ones) and seeds. I buy a 40 or 50 pound bag of each and mix them together. Seeds aren't the best thing for birds in a cage because of the high fat and in a cage they don't get enough exercise.

  • But in the out door aviary they get a lot of exercise Mine have always like to eat and pick out their favorites. I give them fruits and veggies, Raw and cooked, depending on what we are eating usually. I also have greens for the iguanas and often the birds will go down to their food a pick through it and visa versa! If they see you eating it they are usually interested in trying some!

    Good luck,

    Willie

  • what kind of birds do you have in your aviary? How do you keep the squirrels from killing the birds? what do you feed your birds?

  • We mostly have amazons, and conures, the squirrels live outside the cage, and they eat a variety of seed, pellets, fruit and veggies.

  • Great video, amazing aviary and lovely birds, congratulations.

  • Thank you! Built it around 10 years ago and it has been a great learning experience, educational. I've even brought some of my classes here on fieldtrips!

    Thanks for the comment!

    Willie
