It's somewhat suprising that this series worked so well in audio form. he has such an unusual roundabout way of saying things, uses a lot of big and/or fake words, and plays a few verbal tricks every now and then. He also has absurdly long sentenes that bounce around through different topics. You also have to get through a good bit of all that to arrive at a joke sometimes. In short, it seems like most audiences wouldn't be able to keep up, certainly not well enough to laugh.
i really love the story but i think the "actors" or whatever theyre called are somewhat cold emotionless...
i mean his house will be destroyed and hes got a voice like hes sleeping every second^^
they just read it out without "feeling" the persons charakteristics so im giving a dislike for the version not for uploading or the story those two things are niicce, only first criteria i dont like
The great thing about radio is that you CAN'T see anything. The best visual show of all has always been the one we build in our heads. Listen (or read) to the words and let your mind create the picture...
hey, this is not the original BBC cast, but the script is right... i like the professional radio announcers, they're got the gags right. Emphasis is a bit iffy in this version, but its a good effort & thanks for putting this up here, :)
I love the Adams created the "same" story for 3 different mediums (Radio, TV and Movie) and yet created 3 entirely different story lines. And if you think this is brilliant, you should try some of his other works: Long, Dark Tea Time of the Soul, Starship Titanic, Last Chance to See (Non-Fiction about Endangered Species, ETC.). Also, this may not be the original Radio series, but it's also not the audio from the TV series either. It may be Douglas Adams' voice, but I don't think so.
Just to let you know, you can now get our first six Hitch hikers episodes in their unedited form on Itunes. Just type scrifgroup into the search engine and there we are!
I didn't even realize you guys and girls had done this with just a laptop, noticed you've made very minor edits to the script, but they were sensible ones, as us humans are now over how neat digital watches are. :)
You spoke clearly with confidence and with good editing too.
Hi allthisfuss. We modified (slightly) the original radio scripts and read them into the microphone with no live sound effects and with half the cast missing! Still it works rather well I think.
nice ... there's some minor changes in ur script tho... for instance the guy cleaning the windows charged less than a tenner in the original.... i guess ur trying to update it

You should make a hitchhikers guide playlist. It would be really convenient since I listen to this all the time. I love your Zaphod.

There's an audio-CD of the first (of 6) books out there, read by Douglas Adams himself. Look on Amazon or eBay for it, it's worth listening to.

Nice choice for background music! This was used also in the Carl Sagan series Cosmos!!! Very nice. Thanks for posting - and all the fish?

Ad petrie911: That is Douglas Adams himself reading if you ask me

You could stand to be a bit less subdued in your reading. It's a comedy; lighten up.
