  • 4 people don't know where there towel is.

  • You should make a hitchhikers guide playlist. It would be really convenient since I listen to this all the time. I love your Zaphod.

  • The question to the answer is on page 42 of the book

  • It's somewhat suprising that this series worked so well in audio form. he has such an unusual roundabout way of saying things, uses a lot of big and/or fake words, and plays a few verbal tricks every now and then. He also has absurdly long sentenes that bounce around through different topics. You also have to get through a good bit of all that to arrive at a joke sometimes. In short, it seems like most audiences wouldn't be able to keep up, certainly not well enough to laugh.

  • i really love the story but i think the "actors" or whatever theyre called are somewhat cold emotionless...

i mean his house will be destroyed and hes got a voice like hes sleeping every second^^

they just read it out without "feeling" the persons charakteristics so im giving a dislike for the version not for uploading or the story those two things are niicce, only first criteria i dont like

  • 4 people have panicked.

  • So you made this then? I'm impressed.

  • I love this! It's awesome!

  • Check out the 42 towel from Thinkgeek... I love this book.

  • music is too loud

  • I wish there was a Stephen Fry recording. His voice makes me feel relaxed and cheery.

  • amazing I have the original audio recording of this on cassette from way back

  • hey 42 comments,,,

    oh wait.

  • Douglas Adams was the greatest person ever to have lived.

  • There's an audio-CD of the first (of 6) books out there, read by Douglas Adams himself. Look on Amazon or eBay for it, it's worth listening to.

  • yes, there is, but the radio show came first. and then later made into books

  • spazzmo.

  • It's not from the movie (I've seen the movie) this is the origional radio series.

  • sorry at the time i was not aware there was a radio version, forgiveme for i know not what i say

  • Nice to see the audio of it up but without the visuals it misses something! The BBC of it series would be nice!

  • anyone know if the whole of the tv series is on youtube? id love to see it. The books are amazing. D. Adams is a legend :)

  • bando26 is right, this is just the audio of the television version...

  • The great thing about radio is that you CAN'T see anything. The best visual show of all has always been the one we build in our heads. Listen (or read) to the words and let your mind create the picture...

  • your so right...

the movie destroyed the great idea of the radio play and the books... :(

  • R.I.P. Douglas Noel Adams...

May 25th, towel day in his memory, carry a towel all day, fans of The Guide...

  • hey, this is not the original BBC cast, but the script is right... i like the professional radio announcers, they're got the gags right. Emphasis is a bit iffy in this version, but its a good effort & thanks for putting this up here, :)

  • I love the Adams created the "same" story for 3 different mediums (Radio, TV and Movie) and yet created 3 entirely different story lines. And if you think this is brilliant, you should try some of his other works: Long, Dark Tea Time of the Soul, Starship Titanic, Last Chance to See (Non-Fiction about Endangered Species, ETC.). Also, this may not be the original Radio series, but it's also not the audio from the TV series either. It may be Douglas Adams' voice, but I don't think so.

  • Would the book not count as a fourth medium?

  • Good catch. Of course you're right...I can't believe I forgot to include it.

  • Nice choice for background music! This was used also in the Carl Sagan series Cosmos!!! Very nice. Thanks for posting - and all the fish?

  • This is not the radio version.

  • Ad petrie911: That is Douglas Adams himself reading if you ask me

  • You could stand to be a bit less subdued in your reading. It's a comedy; lighten up.

  • great =) i have read the book like 3 times =) their are a lot of differences from the book and this.

  • Thank you.

  • haha awesome

  • Because it's done somewhat differently.

  • Some may prefer the radio version to the

    movie,LOL!!

    I like that theme...

  • Dear All,

Just to let you know, you can now get our first six Hitch hikers episodes in their unedited form on Itunes. Just type scrifgroup into the search engine and there we are!

    Best wishes,

    Scifigroup.

  • There was another radio series, I think it was older than this one

  • brilliant! a wonderful initiative! make more!

  • You've got to build by passes...

  • Anyway, good vid.

  • scifigroup, please tell me what song features at the intro of this video, is it Vanghelis?

  • yes i remember it, its pulsar by vangelis, i think it was the heaven and hell album (used in tv series cosmos by carl sagan)

    damn, i'm old! lol

  • ahem, or it might have been an album called albedo 0.39.. (sorry, brain isn't as sharp as it used to be ;)

  • It's "Alpha" from the album "Albedo 0.39". Wonderful piece it is! :)

  • I didn't even realize you guys and girls had done this with just a laptop, noticed you've made very minor edits to the script, but they were sensible ones, as us humans are now over how neat digital watches are. :)

You spoke clearly with confidence and with good editing too.

    Nice one mate! :D

  • well done guys. an excellent potrayal of the original!!

  • Hi allthisfuss. We modified (slightly) the original radio scripts and read them into the microphone with no live sound effects and with half the cast missing! Still it works rather well I think.

  • nice ... there's some minor changes in ur script tho... for instance the guy cleaning the windows charged less than a tenner in the original.... i guess ur trying to update it

  • brilliant! did you have the original script or did you learn it from the recording?

  • fabulous! what a talented group of audio actors!
