To answer your question about the thief BPL, you find out that he is a thief from a creature that vaguely resembles Master Hand in the Dark World in the cave that held the Ice Rod in the Light World. If memory serves, I think the info is 20 rupees, but I'm not certain. Though it's a very vague hint, if I remember right.

Also, during the Kholdstare battle, I find it easier to use Spin Attacks through the whole battle...after using up your Magic o'course~
