I can't find any audio anywhere on Prefontaine. Enjoyed the movie about him "No Limits" & wanted to hear him speak but nothing out there. Anyone know of somewhere to hear him talking?
This video was given to me without any audio, but I thought people still might want to see Pre so I posted it anyway. I wish I had the audio, but there is nothing I can do about it. Hope you guys enjoy.
@raysweater you got 151 THOUSAND people to watch a man move his lips with no sound coming out.
if you take Prefontaine's average mile time as 4 minutes, that means he could have run 37,500 miles by the time all these views were added up. I wonder if you could perhaps make it your goal to BEAT his career distance with your one minute of rather pointless youtube silence.
Holy Crap there's no SOUND!!! Since I'm the first to notice I'm going to say something. Oh wait..... Who cares if there isn't sound, it's a minute long.
@colderbeer this clip may not mean anything to somebody like yourself, but to the people who loved Prefontaine and his accomplishments, it means alot to them. Next time you dont like something, why dont you just keep your big mouth shut and move along.
Thanks for posting! It's still a little piece of history. As opposed to the little piece of crap that's planted between the ears of haters below. Home movie footage back in the day had no sound, IDIOTS! You want the interview go look it up! Thanks again, raysweater.
There will be no one ever who can be compared to pre. Since pres death the world of track and field has turned into "lets wait for the guy in front to die while we wait to out kick him." He was always a front runner and although some may think they can compare, no one will have the heart, soul, and the will to be the the next pre. There will never be the "next Pre"
You don't think Haile Gabreselasie (sic) has the heart of Pre? Having watched him race live against the clock in a 3k, I saw Haile punish his body mightily just the way Pre did. Hey and I took the same strategy to racing--I'd run from the front also and try to break people to find out who the toughest was. Alot of people run like Pre--most of us are much slower than him but some are faster especially the Africans
alright. You're good for your age but I know a freshman in high school (15 yrs old) that runs 16:06 in the 5K, 9:30 in the 2 mile. Keep it up and set high goals but dont compare yourself to Pre. Remember, you are off to a good start in your running career but the only way your times look good is if you tell everyone your age. Your times by themselves are average at best.
I see your point that I shouldn't say stuff like that with a little cred. but I ran 18:30 after running in a county meet the day before, with a jacked up heel I could barely walk on(because I have flat feet) and on 4 hours of sleep and in 7th grade. So i think I deserve a little bit of cred. I'll comment you back once I get my freshman time (I'm going to be a freshman this year).
Remember 1)there is a huge GROWTH(when it comes to muscles)from 7th grade to 9th,each year I improve like 30 seconds off my mile time, this year, for 8th grade it was at 4:45 and2)If I compare myself to pre I dont mean it in the sense that I can possibly compete with his times at this age and with this amount of training,I say it because I was a frontrunner and my motto was "there is no such thing as pacing yourself" prior to even learning about pre. Any other form of running is like cheating.
dude i like your motto i was a freshman last year (age 14) and my 5k time was 17:03.9. My mile time was 4:45.3 and i do the same man "Front Running" only. I am going to follow you motto man thats a great one. Oh and Good Luck with your running career.
I really don't think you can run that fast, better put it this way, grab your dad video recorder, record yourself running and then post it up, then maybe you'll have some evidence. I ran a sub 2 with the time of 1:52. Its on the schools website. and everything, running college now.
HAHAHAHAHAHA Thats why i won the 5 k in the mini hahahahahaha B. Smith Get at me!!!!!!!!!! lol jk but in all seriousness man i rly did though and im sry if ui beat you lol
He never ran under 13 minutes in the 5k. His best was 13:22.8 at the '72 Olympic Trials, an American Record at the time. According to Without Limits, he wanted to run 12:36 in the 3 mile. And yes, he did run under 4 minutes in the mile. I think his best was 3:54.
His best for the 5k was in the 13's. The 5k is 3 miles plus 200m, so an extra half-lap of the track. His best in the 3-mile was in the high 12's, I believe.
His best 5000m was 13:21.9 in 1974 as part of the Oregon Track Club. For the 3 mile, his best was 12:51.4, also in 1974. (Facts per Appendix in Pre:The Story of America's Greatest Running Legend)
don't call raysweater a retarded douche bag. pre was a legend. just seeing him is an inspiration. this guy did so much with his years and was such a great runner. he's my hero and ill take any chance i get to see him

Don't take this video down raysweater. These naysayers are a bunch of idiots. Anyone who truly appreciates Pre and understands how much of a legend he is in the track & field community will appreciate this video, even without the sound. Thanks for posting it.
