Blaming the people of Haiti for this disaster is a really "safe" belief system. If you believe this way, and you do everything right, then nothing bad should come your way, right? This doesn't require faith - it relies on our own actions. We become our own gods. Faith is about leaving room for the mystery of God and doing what we can to participate in the best of humanity - the capacity to love even those we don't know.
@Kendal411 i love how people think they know everything, just because they don't believe in God. with a capital G. i believe in God, and i also know way more than your beautifully developed mind can comprehend so. stfu and don't even comment
@losarman once again no where in my comment was i being sarcastic. stop making assumptions. Everything has a purpose in this world. if you ask the question WHY? you will get no where. instead realize that it happened, and it was meant to happen, and could not have happened any other way.
Religion is profiting? Not here. I don't believe in god and I rated this video 5 stars because I believe in hope. This video is first and foremost about spreading the word and helping the relief aid. Please be mindful of something's true purpose before you heckle and make yourself look insensitive.
UMCOR already had workers in Haiti, some of whom were injured in the quake. They were assisting in ongoing recovery efforts since the last hurricane. And, yes, after Hurricane Andrew and Kartina, UMCOR disaster workers were actually training volunteers for other agencies and were very well respected by relief agencies in the region.
Also, UMCOR is famous for staying in an area much longer than most agencies, month and years afterward still helping victims with long-term recovery of their lives. Charitywatch has a list right now of the best organizations helping Haiti - out of 23 they rated, only 3 got an A+ rating and one of those is UMCOR.
Supernova...if you had bothered to go to the website, you will find that the UMC has been involved with Haiti through Missionary support for a very long time. UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief uses 100% of donations toward whatever disaster you choose it to go to. The administrative costs to make these things happen come out of the UMC pocketbook. So if you donate to UMCOR and earmark it HAITI...that is where 100% of it goes. Even the Red Cross cannot guarantee that.

Sooo your solution to actual events is to talk to an imaginary friend that as never been proven to even have the slightest bit of existence..... Yeea you just do that and let the red cross take care of it..
UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief was listed in Newsweek as one of the 10 top disaster relief agencies that dealt with the Katrina Disaster. They actually started preparing their response BEFORE the hurricane hit the shore.
Sorry to hear that you think of God as imaginary. As far as proof, the proof is all around you if you truely look for it.
The red cross does a fine job and gets more publicity than other relief agencies, a lot of which the red cross pays for with money from donations. UMCOR has theirs covered by the United Methodist Church so none of their advertising or administrative costs come from the funds donated.
lol ok delusional one... and there is proof of your insanity all around you too you just live in denial of actual facts and water them down with your irrational perception of reality... Real things move the world around you and you cant see them because you're too delusional to see..... research your religion with a healthy mind and you'll be amazed
@Supernova310 Are you opposed to people of faith helping earthquake victims in Haiti? Perhaps your friends and colleagues are more compassionate than misguided 'believers'. How much did you donate to the Red Cross or volunteer? How many athiest organizations are helping the relief effort?
My God did not do this to the people of Haiti. Bad things happen even to good people. Too many will blame God for something like this and then try to justify their words by saying they deserved it. A couple of good sources for understanding my beliefs on how God is present in disasters are books by Phillip Yancey, "Where Is God When It Hurts", and "Dissapointment With God".
of course your god didnt do this, he only does good things, he doesnt have the power to stop things like this, otherwise he should have stopped it. this is afterall called an act of god
Good question! The Rev. Pat Robertson said his God did it cause Haiti made a pack with the devil hundred+ years ago! Sure did take his God a long time to punish the great grand children of Haiti!
To be sure he's got a good grip on the minds of many elderly people however I think in the wake of any number of times his foot has gone in his mouth in the last ten years many on the right are now ignoring him and listening to either Rick Warren or a local minister.
Well, I suspect that you're correct, BUT those that ignore him are allowing him to make his BONE HEADED statements go without response which is as bad as supporting him in my opinion! I have yet to hear a RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY counter what Robertson said in public!
I love that UMC is for Haiti, we as church have to keep our prayers for our sisters and brothers. Difficult to see and understand the ad and UMCOR has to be there, thanks anyway...
Agree with others that it is too short. 19 secs is too long for a 15 sec TV spot. Add 11 more and it would make a great 30 second spot. And if we're buying airtime, why 10ThousandDoors? Why not UMCOR??
10thousanddoors is a website created by The United Methodist Church. Haiti response information found there sends anyone wishing to donate money directly to UMCor.
It is a nice try, but it is too short, and the website is too complicated to read in the amount of time you have. It's great on the computer, but I can pause it and look at the website. Why don't we just stick with UMCOR?
God is imaginary, prayer is delusional thinking... that about covers it.

I never said that that you commnted on it, i just asked as it was an act of god that caused the problem, why did he do it to the people of Haiti?

Robertson is weird.
His apparent theology is also frequently in conflict with the Bible.
grazon 2 years ago
I Agree that Robertsons a wee bit off but he does represent a lot of the Christian right! Scary stuff in my book!
Be well!
99minerkc 2 years ago
IMHO Robertson no longer represents them.
To be sure he's got a good grip on the minds of many elderly people however I think in the wake of any number of times his foot has gone in his mouth in the last ten years many on the right are now ignoring him and listening to either Rick Warren or a local minister.
To be fair this is still just my opinion.

@losarman Actually its not about asking questions. it is about hope.
just because there is no hard evidence of God's existence does not mean he isn't real
absence of evidence is not evidence of absence
