i like the at 12:00 the point about not just amaz support but no apps in general for web os. there are a lot, but nothing like the apple and android. u can put the andriod on it, but it will never be as streamlined or made for the touchpad. that is a mute point for people not worried about it looking super refined or like to hack it a little, but for presentation, better content, new updates, and stuff like that i kind of like the fire.

i think after some debate: there's no winner, but time is a factor and i'm going with the fire. mainly since it is easier to use, + has good support (in case hp broken). the biggest thing is the free content with amaz prime, 90 trail of mags/1 book month. plus u can hack it a little too. the 7" screen turned out to be bigger than i thought, def nicer than phone. i wish it was 10 but o well. it still nice.she's not a hacker/likes easy way out one hand thing is nice+will get better/faster/cleaner

I had the same problem, and I ended up going for the TouchPad, because I was able to get one on Craigslist for $200. And for me, the ability to modify the crap out of the TP is essential. But, for someone not as mod-minded as I, I would recommend the Fire. It's definitely the safer option.

i'm been driving myself crazy the last few days trying to find the best deal for my gf on on of thsese things...i got it down to this and the fire..this has a bigger screen and is like 280, the fire is only 200 but is smaller screen, gets updates, and is overall neat. but atst, she has an htc phone that is 4.5" so a kindle is only 2.5 inches bigger than that..this is 10.1 but is being fazed out. i don't know?
