  • how did i get here

  • Comment removed

  • Nickelodeon star John Kricfalusi said on his blog three years ago that he hated this cartoon.:)

  • @SteveCarras because it will take nickelodeon at least 40 more years to reach this level...

  • Did this inspire scoobby do

  • "Just think, this cartoon turned 40 in the Fall of 2010!"

  • Just got back from Wikipedia. The third Pussycat wasn't a Houston. It was a lady named Cathy Dougher. I apologize for the error.

  • Did you know that there was a REAL Josie and the Pussycats?

Yup. One of them was a daughter of Cissy Houston, and another one went on to become Cheryl Ladd (one of the later 'Charlie's Angels').

  • @SuperCartiel Actually, yes one of the singers is Cheryl Ladd but the other specifically is Patrice Holloway sister of Motown singer Brenda Holloway who sang "Every Little Bit Hurts" . Patrice has passed away. I've never heard that they were Cissy Houston's daughters. You mean the Cissy Houston - Whitney Houston's mother?

  • @amuslima99 Yes, I'm sure it was a Houston. Better do a Wiki to make sure...

  • @SuperCartiel There was also a third singer in the group. I don't know her name.

  • Always had a big crush on Val. Not only was she pretty, a 'sista' but she was a technical wiz and tough too. My kind of lady! ;-)

  • The best cartoon intro ever!

  • I know im in the minority here, but I liked Josie and The pussycats better than Scooby Doo.It had great music and the sister of the group was intelligent.A rarity amongst cartoons of that time and now.

  • This cartoon was a joke! I think it was for girls.

  • If you're a fan of Josie and the Pussycats, you'll probably like the fun and free weekly podcast, Echo Valley, which celebrates the great bubblegum music from the 1960's and 1970's! There's Josie and the Pussycats music almost every week! Give it a try!

    Just Google "Echo Valley Bubblegum"!

  • I LOVE when Melody shakes her head / hair when she plays the drums.

  • melody was so funny

  • Alexandra was my favorite. I modeled my teens and early 20s after her. I was always called a bitch for some reason . . .

  • 0:32 - 0:36 AHHH! NATIVE AMERICAN! RUN! but seriously i quite liked this show :)

  • I swear I rarely, if ever, watched Josie and the Pussycats. But I always watched the intro.

  • My Name is Josie

  • Miss this cartoon a lot!

  • This was a terrible show, in my opinion at least.

  • Why did they cut the scene of Alexandra trying to blow up the band but instead blowing herself up?

Thats why the cat was laughing at the end.

  • i love this cartoon u_u

  • obviously a ripoff of scooby doo.

  • @MrSparky3976

Considering it was based off a comic book and produced by the same people as Scooby-Doo.. I doubt it. It's hard to rip off your own show. =P Similarities true, probably due to the same creators of both series. It also aired just one day less than a year after Scooby Doo first aired.

  • Didn't the Alexandra character start out as a student of magic alongside Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, in the comic books? She was Sabrina's evil rival, IIRC, and I believe that's how she got that streak in her hair. They crossed her over to the Josie show to have a ready-made, jealous foil to the Pussycats, altho she doesn't have any powers.

  • they're hot!

  • Drummer looks like Bet Lynch from "CORONATION STREET"!

  • Melody is Gorgeous! LOL

  • I remember watching them on Saturday Mornings.

  • MEOW! I loved Melody

  • Probably the first "white" cartoon to have a token black character in it.

  • Josie and the Pussy....Cats!

  • Gee, I wonder where the Pussycat Dolls took their inspiration from?!

  • @loveunderlaw is that supposed to be sarcastic?

  • Josie and the Pussycats

No time for purrs and pats

Won't run when they here scat

    There where the plot begins

Come on and watch the good guys win

    Josie and the Pussycats

    Josie and the Pussycats.

  • Josie and the Pussycats Long tails and and ears for hats Guitars and sharps and flats Neat, sweet, a groovy song You're invited, come along. Hurry, Hurry See ya all in Persia Or maybe France We could be India Or perchance Be with us in Bangkok Make no difference Everywhere the actions at We're involved with this or that Cone along now...

I don't understand why the hottest girl in town in all '70 cartoons is always a percussionist (drummer , tambourine). Nothing bad with it of course.

Maybe I'll start taking some lessons LOL"

Cause she likes to hit it, that's why, proof in the pudding, I had an high school sweetheart who learned to play drums cause I p!ssed her off & boy could she HIT those drums, then when we got older, she LOVE to hit it, taught this brother how to scream, oh YEAH!

  • What is Michelle Obama doing in that band as a teenager?

  • @Wellch I didn't realize Michelle was the only black girl in the world.

  • @Wellch CHEAP SHOT! funny but still CHEAP SHOT!

  • I don't understand why the hottest girl in town in all '70 cartoons is always a percussionist (drummer , tambourine). Nothing bad with it of course.

Maybe I'll start taking some lessons LOL

  • After Scooby-Doo, this was my favorite meddling-kids-solve-mystery show.

The lyrics bothered me though, mainly because I didn't understand them.

  • pussy hahahaha

  • I especially love when Melody shakes her head...

  • I can tell time has flown when I mentioned this and a college girl said, "It was a CARTOON?"(as opposed to the cheesy 2001 live action remake)

  • I was 7 or 8 and I like the little dollies... they were sexy!!!!

  • Did anybody ever notice that Alexander is just like Shaggy

  • @ang5523 well casey kasem did the voices for both

  • Josie was such a hottie. Too bad she wasn't real.

  • they should have drawn in camel toe with those suits

  • @alnilam66 lmao!!!!! and make their outfits tighter t&a ftw!!!!

  • Alexandra was such a bitch... she was still a cutie, though. lol

  • its all about the legs baby the legs !!!!!!!!!!!

  • This was about the time when they started making anatomically correct cartoon women.

  • One of my favorite Sat morning cartoons from the 70's. Loved it!

  • this is driving me nuts have you ever tried to remember a tv show but just can't? well i'm trying to remember this tv show which i'm sure is a hanna barbera cartoon its very similar to scooby-doo all i can remember is it involved a group of mystery solving teens and a green dog with a hat who could turn invisible! someone help me out what was it called??

  • @mightygee

    Funky Phantom?

  • @mightygee Goober and the Ghost Chasers.

  • Undoubtedly the best legfest cartoon until the arrival of Sailor Moon.

  • Nice rockin' theme song.

  • hanna-barbera-productions they produced the best cartoons. Cartoon network was they place to watch cartoons they should have left cartoon network the way it was the old one the classic cartoons

  • @neiji412 Something that a lot of people don't know, all of the Cartoon Cartoons (Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Ed Edd n' Eddy, Grim and Evil) Hanna-Barbera had a hand in producing ALL OF THEM.

  • "They don't make them like this anymore ;)

  • smooth animation.realistic movements too.nostalgia kickin in

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Anyone remember when they were in an episode of Scooby Doo?

  • @EmperorofCartoons I totally remember that.

  • And the one they chose was a comic series called "Josie". Dan DeCarlo, John Goldwater, and the rest of the Archie comics happily rewrote new material to fit their series as well as matching the new TV series.

The end result was a hit and was on reruns until 1973 when the sequel "Josie & The Pussycats In Outer Space" took over. The series went in syndication around the world.

Now, the series is available in DVD. I'm proud to have it in my collection!

  • Ahh...brings back memories...good ones as this was one of the fave cartoons to watch during the early '70's. They were the 2nd series to follow the SD formula: Musical Mysteries. However, every other series slowly degraded after Josie. The last of the formula, at least I think was "Jabberjaw".

H-B wanted a hit series after seeing what was happening with Filmation's "The Archie Show", so they contacted Archie Comics to do a series with one of their titles.

  • The characters that i like are:

    Josie

    alexandra

    sebastion

  • intriguing movie, great to look at. I've watcher this movie @ MovieWatcher(.)US

  • i always wondered why my older brother was laughing when this came on.

  • Melody is hot!

  • Melody was the Best!1

  • I always loved Alexandra XD

  • lol

  • This was like my fave cartoon ever when i was little. Still love it and im 43 now! lol

  • Not gonna lie, I did want Melody as a kid.

  • I always wondered that if she's such a ditz how she is capable of playing the drums. Seems like she should be playing the tambourines...more her speed.

  • I always thought the girls looked hot. Gave me morning wood as a 12 year old.

  • its a cartoon dude lol if they were real thats a different story =)

  • @spiderdragon1969 aha that's funny xD

  • @spiderdragon1969 This cartoon is the reason Im into nekos

  • Hey@spiderdragon1969, you to huh? Yeah, when I was a kid these girls got my ding-a-ling hard.

If I were a cartoon, I'd BANG ALL 4 of those girls.

  • @spiderdragon1969 Hell yeah, especially the drummer. I just told a friend of mine at work the other day, my first TV-induced boner as a kid had to be either this or seeing Debbie Harry sing for Blondie on TV in the late 70's

  • @spiderdragon1969 saturday morning wood

  • next line is "we're involved with this and trhat"

  • When they sing, "Every where the action's at..." at :28, what the next line?

    Can't quite make that out...

  • "Were in envolved with this and that.". is that part of the song.....

I know what you mean lot of times you hear any song no matter what it is and they say certain lines so fast and not clear you not sure what they said or it sounds like something else.

  • its kinda same maker as "The Archies" huh? ; o

  • Yeah. You can tell by the animation style.

  • I loved the pussycats in outer space

  • it makes you wonder how they would have really sounded with just guitar, drums and valerie banging two tambourines together. maybe like The White Stripes?

  • anybody have any episodes of Josie and the Pussycats?

  • I remember when that villian hypnotized Melody and she was still an airhead. It was funny.

  • yeah that was funny

  • Cheryl Ladd "Stopplemore" was the voice of Melody

  • i used to have this tape at home and i would still be watching it if i knew where it was

  • How big is your house?

  • It's like a girlband version of the Scooby Doo theme

  • The theme is TOO CATCHY!

  • I always liked this theme.

  • un cartone animato bellissimo

  • My favorite show growing up

  • I always wondered why Valarie and Melody both played percusion instruments. No other cartoon bands never did that!

  • it used to like keyboard, guitar/bass and lead singer.

or was it drummer, guitar, bass/singer??

hmm, gee i don't know, lol

  • i was born in `91 and knew about it...and i used to watch it

  • Great! They are very sexy & cool! LOL ^_^

  • I miss seeing that show. I wasnt even 5 yet and I knew the show. as soon as we had cartoon network made and available to us in Tacoma Park, I saw it. Chances are I watched creature feature too.

  • I was commenting on this show to a waitress the other day and she says "This was a cartoon?" Figures, she probably only saw the movie version and was born in like 1985.

  • i was born in89 and now about it

  • just a candy performance. The girls are so talented and this is the cake. The icing is the fact that they wear sexy costumes that they know will drive men and boys to lose it and run wild in their imaginations. One really cannot blame them for using their wits and their assets to sell show tickets and records. I hope they don't easily get offended. the live action movie was not made to mirror the cartoon. Too Bad. I was looking forward to see a professional model/actress in an authentic costume

  • i'd ride the holes off all of them

  • Cool! I heard that it's now on DVD.

  • Una serie di cartoni bellissima che in italia non riesco più a vedere :(((

  • Lol, the guy at 0:32 always makes me laugh, he's there for like a second for no relevant reason.

  • He looks like one of the henchmen in the Dr. Greenthumb episode. They show a lot of that and Captain Nemo in the opening.

  • Life is good thanks

  • I love this cartoon too,I have seen it in Japan back in 70's. Around that time there were many American cartoons in Japan.

  • Loved this show. Did you guys like the movie?

  • love some pussy

  • This video makes me want to be a little KID again... forever.

  • Josie and her group was a comic before It was a toon. It came from the old "Archie comics" (The Archies), a spinoff from those guys. They tooned it in the very early 70s, around 71 or 72. After this was done with its run, they went into outer space, as "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space" And ......NO, they are not the predecessors to "The Pussycat Dolls", they have nothing to do with that bunch. Classic toons for sure.

  • It so funny seeing this now I cant stop laughing

  • predecessors of the pussycat dolls

  • I used to watch this show all the time as a kid!

  • SOOOO HOOOOOOTT!

  • HOT AS SONG

  • SEBASTIAN CRACKS ME UP ALWAYS

  • i love Valerie <3

  • OMG...THIS SHOW WAS LIKE THE BOMB!!!

  • yeah it was

  • Sebastian ROCKS! (I'd give anything to have a cat that looks like him!)

  • Very 60's!

  • dis came out n da 70's. talk wat u know

  • Well then it must be early 70's and just because it came out in the 70's doesn't mean that it doesn't look like the 60's, plus the comic came out towards the end of the 60's so you should take your own advice and talk what you know.

  • I asked my mom, she said 60's

  • The Good Ole Days, Loved Evil Alexandra & that Cat with that evil laugh.
