Hmm not completely true. The heart is the organ that generates, cleanses, and pumps blood. The heart itself already had blood pumping through David's body. That same blood goes back through the heart and "renews" the blood in a way. Without anything to cleanse his blood, or generate new blood he would have died. But even then it would take awhile for his blood to return to the heart, he would have lasted more than a few minutes before he actually died. Good trick either way.
