The healthcare bill is supposed to cost $950B over the course of 10 years and save money long-term. I am skeptical of that assessment, however, as essentially no government programs have ever saved money. Medicare, for example, was projected to cost $12B by 1990 and ended up costing nearly ten times that ($110B)!

How can you omit the stimulus bill from that calculation which, at $814B, cost more than the entire 7-year cost of the war in Iraq ($709B). @AnnoyingXboxer I wish that was the case but actually the majority of the stimulus bill has already been spent. The healthcare bill is supposed to cost $950B over the course of 10 years and save money long-term. I am skeptical of that assessment, however, as essentially no government programs have ever saved money. Medicare, for example, was projected to cost $12B by 1990 and ended up costing nearly ten times that ($110B)!

Pelosi ran up the debt from 190b before to the 5 to 600 range, now with Obama it's even worse, because the people who ran up the debt don't have to worry about a veto from Bush. Look at which party was in charge of the legislative branch during those years and you will see why the spending was out of control in democrat controlled years, and went down under Republican years. This isn't a defense of Repuglicans because I think they spend too much too, but the deficit more than doubled when Pelosi took charge, and quadrupled when the threat of a Bush veto was removed.
