  • You know I am sick of all these anti American comments on war history documentaries. "Oh the Americans screwed up this or that", "The Americans were cowards, we could have won the war without them anyway."

History is history. Do we not have a right to take pride in our soldiers and what they did in the wars? If you don't like that these documentaries are American made go watch one's made in your country. Put don't you dare spit on our right to have our own national pride.

  • they should've replaced the American one with the famous dogfight between Manfred Von Richthofen and Lanoe Hawker

  • what brave men they both were.... these were truly knights of the air... a time when chivalry still existed

  • i think its funny how everybody who watchs these videos just cant help but to argue how one nations piolts are better than other. in the skys there are no rank or afeliations to hinder us. we are on an equal footing.

  • If I was a fighter pilot I probably wouldn't be able to just spare him like that.I would have at least shot his plane a couple of times just to show him who's boss.Something like that would never happen today, since WW2 the air forces specifically choose the most aggressive recruits to be fighter pilots, but then the only ones who had the guts to fly planes were ex-cavalry people, who sported over the old rules of chivalry and revived in dogfights the ancient duels of knights

  • So PanterausfG above ends with "you SOBs" not realizing that the History Channel is written and produced for an American audience.

  • WW1 had the most honer pilots but by WW1 there only thing they wanted to do was to kill anyone who wasn't on there side

  • WOW ! thumbs up Georges Guynemer !! ur a true...Fighter pilot such Chivalry..!

  • 8:54 This is the reason why current fighter pilots say "we stand on the shoulders of giants". These guys were the first and the most pure of the dogfighters! True gentlemen fighting an ugly war.

  • man, these dogfights are absolutely unreal. These men were the kings of the sky

  • hearing about things like the french pilot waving and leaving makes me feel proud to be human. very respectful for him to not fight an unfair fight

  • Knights of the sky!

  • the red baron was the ace of all aces

  • @monkeydluggy17

The red baron (80 victories) was actually outscored by a WW2 German Ace Erich Hartman (352, the world record).

  • "There are people who claim Guynemer had a stoppage himself then. Others claim he feared I might ram him in desperation. But I don't believe any of them. I still believe to this day that a bit of chivalry from the past has continued to survive."

  • Those pilots regardless of their nationality were undoubtedly the most hardcore pilots to ever earn their wings, I mean yeah sure their planes were slow as hell and would be blown away by a strong enough gust of wind but that's the point! Those men knew how relatively new planes were in terms of military tech and probably knew that even a few holes in the wing could spell death and yet forth they went! I salute all of them for their bravery even if they didn't shoot anyone down.

  • It is sad that those pilots had no parachute..

  • World War I is a forgotten conflict. But I obsess over it as a history major. This conflict of all conflict lets us know the futility of war. Its a fools errand. Thank bismarck for these alliances. And thank Franz Josef for setting off this war. Never forget history. It never repeats itself exactly, but if we dont learn, we will never progress.

  • @mark3smle our tech far out paced our tactics. the fact that both sides send men to their deaths in droves over no mans land into the waiting teeth of machine guns and gas. you'd be hard press to convince me to run across a open feild like that.

  • Weird that noone made the HD version yet, it airs on HC HD all the time :S

  • fake ,George the french ace might had died and shot down by the red baron but the americans didn't told us.

  • such galantry and chivalry is sth we hardly see nowadays in war,

now you stick your head out for a smoke and they fire a tomahawk missile up your butt...

    harsh as it may sound,

    but those were the days

  • I got a question how the fuck do they dont get their rutter get shot while they shoot thro it

  • @TheBattleMech do you mean propeller? If so, they've got a timing device that won't fire the gun when the propeller is in front of it. It was a german invention i think

  • @mikey1978416 That it was... Allied forces didn't have their own similar interuptor gear until they pirated it of a downed german aircraft

  • @TheBattleMech Do you mean the propeller? well, at first, they used deflector plates mounted on the prop blades which usually worked notwithstanding a few accidents but the Germans invented, though Fokker, the synchronization system that interrupted the guns as the prop blade swung around in front of them. For the allies, it was simply a matter of copying the system from a downed plane behind the're lines.

  • @TheBattleMech A cam system that linked the engine to the gun. The Interupter gear invented by Anthony Foker was timed so when a prop blade was in front of the gun, it would not fire. By placing the gun in front of the pilot, he had the best view of the target & could clear the gun.

  • Long live the memories of WW1!!!

  • Great series...thank you very much!

..after that I guess that the 158 Coommonwealth pilots downed by Marseille are not included in the "inferior pilots on inferior planes" group....and I guess too that while americans invented the airplane they did not invent the fighter...at least one thing that we did here in Europe...that's why WW1 US Ace Capt. Rickenbacker used french fighter planes.

  • .... I want proof that they heard this from a World War 1 veteran.

  • @supermankicass

    lol, they're all dead.

they wrote it in their diaries

  • WW1 pilots is amazing! Manfred von Richthofen RULZ!

  • The Mexican Revolution saw planes used as aerial gun and bomb platforms years before this. Sticks of dynamite would be dropped from Curtiss designed planes onto trains and buildings and opposing pilots would shoot at each other with pistols beginning in 1910 or so to about 1920. During WW1, the shortage of planes caused the Mexicans to repair and construct their own. Of course on a much smaller scale than those used for WW1. Just Wiki Mexican Air Force. Ignorant bigoted replys to follow.

  • Who invent airplane? America. Moving assembly line? America. Interchangable parts? America. Electricity? America. Solid state electronic? America. Electric light? Moving Pictures? America. Anteceptic dressing? Toilet paper? America. Television?Ameerca.. Between America, Brittan, Russia, Germany and Italy, and some France; the modern world is. Now bad time come to west. Now child wants to say bad bad to America. I say stand up America; be strong to fight against the 사귀.

  • they really did fly at 15.000 feet?

    OMG

  • i fight for myself. even if it defies my country. i mean i fight for what is moraly right. to be at inner peace. that is the greatest reason to fight. the only reason to fight.

  • As i have said before this is a fantastic series only let down by not showing enemies of the allies win.

I mean the germans and the japs (WW2)did actually beat the allies in numerious dogfights.

  • @TheGriefmaker

Note to self my above complaint has been resolved in the new series :)

  • new series? tell me about it plz

  • its individual dogfights everyone is going to be different but the germans propably won a whole lot more than the japanese against the allies

  • werner voss......OMG!

  • This is intense, they were so close to eachother back in WW1. insane!

  • Werner Voß (Voss) Rocks!

  • Thank GOD that the Americans appeared so late in the "Great war" cuz otherwise we would NOT SEE ONE non American dogfight.

Actually i think they were forced to show the other nations pilots fighting (lack of documents showing Americans "owning")

Judging by this show, and others like "shootout", the Americans have some serious issues (superiority complex).

Suggestion, next time call it "Memories of USAF pilots" problem solved.

No Red Baron no René Fonck and the other high scorers ? You SOBs

  • We know the score.

  • Well, let's see... the history channel has an audience of mostly Americans, so seeing a great American dogfight would be almost predicted, also out of all the dogfights, there was only one American dogfight, and if the Americans didn't appear at all, i wonder how long the war would have lasted. The stalemate would have lasted far longer.

  • Jasta 11/RFC 56º Squadron/RFC 10º Naval "Black Flight"/Groupe de Combat 12 "Les Cigognes" - The real top aces with a much richer history.

Im tired to see History Ch. showing those boring dogfights with Phantoms shooting down stupid rookies Mig 21 pilots, or the Luftwaffe on its last WWII days. I think that just the americans like it. History Ch. s#@* a lot.

  • @PanterausfG Oh get over yourself, I know there was at least one entire episode of "Dogfights" that featured the Israeli Air Force, and had this show continued there probably would've been more. You know, there is absolutely nothing stopping people from other nations making documentaries featuring their own version of "Dogfights" featuring their heroes, so what's the problem?

  • @PanterausfG

Disappointed that no Nazi aces, made from shooting down inferior planes flown by inferior pilots on the Eastern Front during WWII, were included in many of these shows? Yes the shows are biased, but considering the shows were made in the US, which pilots do you think would be covered first and foremost? The Australians? No. American pilots are going to be covered on American made shows. Make your own show if you're tired of waiting, and stop griping.

  • @PanterausfG American show, American heroes. What do you expect?

  • @PanterausfG its not a superiority complex... its just irrefutable superiority...

  • @PanterausfG usaf wasnt created till 1947....

  • @PanterausfG

"Dogfights of the Middle East", "Sink of the Bismark", "Desert Dogfighters", "Luftwaffe's deadliest missions" and the special program "Guerra aerea por las islas Malvinas" shown in Argentina about the Falkland Islands conflict between Argentina and Great Britain feature non-American pilots and airplanes.

Next time do a little more research before making smart-ass comments.

  • @PanterausfG is it possible for you euroweenies to stop with the pop anti-Americanism and phony political correctness? Nothing's stopping other countries from making their OWN dogfight documentaries highlighting their own pilots.

Americans made this documentary and we're under no obligation to highlight other people dogfighters. If you don't like, stick it!

  • @PanterausfG

Although I enjoyed watching the Dogfight series on the History Channel when it aired in the US, I have to agree with you. I would have loved to see more of the exploits of German, Japanese and British Commonwealth fighter pilots and hear their point of view. I think the Dogfight series was made exclusively for an American audience.

  • @PanterausfG

wait...are you refering to "practically no American dogfights in this part of the show"

because there are plenty of American fighter piolet dogfights througought the entire series...

(personally, I would have liked to see more ww1 dogfights)

  • @PanterausfG regarding your comment on dogfights show. it may have been a while and you may not remember but an american tv show about Dogfighting should reflect american and allied pilots. no american wants to see german and japanease pilots owning americans. i understand your plight and would like to hear of other pilots aside from allied, but the show got cancelled.

  • @IxamxDeceptionxX

Actually they did have an episode that highlighted the kamikazes and also in that episode showed the German Ramming Squad and they interviewed a former German pilot. Shame this show got cancelled plus I wish they could make a game for the consoles using this modeling technology.

  • @BgJohnWV they got a great simulator called il2 stumorvik 1946 for pc and another awesome game that looks almost as good as this called rise of fight.il2 for xbox sucks

  • @PanterausfG actually, there are several episodes that feature RAF Pilots with no mention of the U.S.

Besides, this is an American show. What the hell do you expect? I am sure other countries glorify their own fighting men and women as much as the US does. Dont be a dumbass.

  • @PanterausfG it's an american show, that airs in America. What on earth do you expect??? If it was shown in Germany or France or Britain or whatever they'd focus on their own countries battles as well :P

  • @PanterausfG You know that those are all American shows, right? So they are going to show more Americans than other nations...

  • @PanterausfG umm.. yeah... look up 'Dogfights - Bismarck' Its a whole episode about the British vs Germans. Not one mention of the U.S at all in the whole episode.

Besides, even if they did, its called 'Nationalism' every country glorifies their war heroes.

  • @PanterausfG suck it up b!tch

  • @w8ting4fri

Stfu, American pilots sucked compared to European pilots.

  • @PanterausfG

When you are done crying, you can go make your own TV show and highlight whatever history you want.

  • @PanterausfG what god? also the USAF was not around till after WW2

so lets see.. this American knows there is no magic man in the sky and that the USAF was not around till 1948.. you have taught everyone your a retard.

  • @PanterausfG Call in the Americans to mop up another World War the Europeans started and couldn't finish themselves, eh?

  • @PanterausfG ikr

  • @PanterausfG

    U mad bro?

  • @PanterausfG dont fucking kidding me the britans fight hard whith balls of steel and you empire come youst for say the empire will conquer the entire world making wars sacrifise they fellows soldiers youst for un dot of oil

  • @PanterausfG my theroie germany and the axis where defeted and i think they show only victors part from some parts maybe beacuse maybe they were forced to show german and japs

  • @PanterausfG Why would Americans make shows about you?

  • @PanterausfG @PanterausfG Or... there's the fact that these shows are made BY Americans FOR American audiences? Why is it so many videos here on youtube have comments from people who feel the need to rip Americans apart? Sounds like you have an inferiority complex yourself.

I don't deny that there were so many foreign heroes- especially in WWI, but why don't other countries come out with shows like this? If they glorified their own men, you wouldn't hear any complaints from us!

  • World War I, truly the masters of the skies. No doubt

  • @ramzarugliabeoulve Defined the concept of dogfight itself...

  • @ramzarugliabeoulve

dude its made for american audiences

  • Very cool

  • *gun down, not fun down. :)

  • I first watched this video (well, this episode, actually) over an year ago and this dogfight made a deep impression on me. Remember how later in this episode, the British pilots fun down the Fokker triplane? They did the right thing (since they were at war) but their activities pale in comparison, all because this French ace understood that some things are more important than another notch on your kill tally. He was a TRUE warrior. So this one moment has made him remembered even 100 years after.

  • that was cool how Voss did a 180 degree turn!

  • Lets see the F-22 Raptor with pull that off! Hehe.

  • My favorite amongst all the "Dogfights" on the History channel.

  • I love this episode of dog fights one of my favorites. What a finish to the first dog fight huh, pretty honorable to let the pilot go. I guess with how they were still sort of experimental in combat and not as heavily used like in world war II twenty years later when air superiority was a top concern and would make or break the big battles. Cool moment though and damn that must have been some scary flying you can't even bail out. Was probably the drive behind those tricky maneuvers.

  • If i were the french guy I would have downed him.

  • its a matter of honor dude: would you gun a soldier in the head intentionally during WW2 with no weapon to fight back with? of course not, you would've been brought up in a war crimes tribunal and put to firing squad for dishonoring the military. yah its war, but even in war there should be a code of honor meaning you probably have none =P

  • If you don't kill him, he kills you, and only higher ranks are accused of war crimes

that's war dude, stop with the good guys crap

  • WW1 aces: true masters of their machines.

  • and WWII Fighters were as well..the WWII Dogfights are my fav to watch..prolly cuz they have all the cool guns and planes

  • I like the Desert Storm one the best. But these old ones are cool to.

  • more like masters of the skies. seriously: going up in the sky not only in that wheather but with basically experements on avation? not even the f-22a can claim it's the master. these guys were. no question.
