  • I'm reading the book now... can't wait for the new hobbit movie

  • i will hate if somes strangers barge in my home and eat my food and cakes and force me out of my home i ll just get a shutgun and killed them all

  • Awwww I haven't seen this in years! Thank you so much for uploading~

  • Now that's a pipe.

  • WOOOO ITS IN HD!!!! bahaha

  • i love this movie but every time i see it or clips of it, i think of limmewinks now lol

  • What the hecks wrong with bilbo?

  • brings back so many memories of childhood, also explains why bilbo is such a hoss and deserved to go to the grey haven with the elves.

  • ...my buddy had this one on VHS ...i never actually sat down to watch it before...so far looks good.

  • lemmiwinks brought me here

  • this is dumb. I'm glad they're coming out with the new movie. Still, I guess this movie was before my time.

  • @houstonproductions1

This movie was epic; one of my childhood favorites.

  • am i missing something? how did they select bilbo to go with them?

  • @DeikunZeon His granddad knew Gandalf or something, they say that in the first 20 pages of the book. Dunno why they don't mention it here. Hobbits are supposed to hate adventures, but his mother's family is a part of the Took family who is "part fairy" supposedly. So he gets the fire in the belly for adventure from that side of his family which only Gandalf knows since he knows his families past. That's all I'm going to tell you :D

  • Everytime you hear the words "Magic" "Elves" or "Treasure" ...take a drink!

  • oh the memories

  • Gandalf is badass when he first shows up

  • You mean you do not wish to share a grand adventure?

  • Somehow the animation kinda makes me think of The Last Unicorn.

  • @OokamiSango That's because the animation was done by the same directors/production company, Rankin & Bass. They've made a ton of good family animations, including around that time The Flight of Dragons, and before then Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

  • so the leader of the company sorin or whats the name is dead at the end

  • @12ock His name is Thorin Oakenshield. Don't post spoilers on the first part.

  • dwarves adventurer

  • I just started reading the Hobbit to my four year old this last week. Showing him the film to help back up the story is great!

  • I loved this movie so much as a kid! Thank you for uploading this!

  • I wish this soundtrack was replaced with Blind Guardian.

  • his pipe looks like a saxophone!

  • they did the troll part wrong

  • i remember when my mimi (grandmother) first showed me this!

  • I think the new hobbit movie will be better? :D

  • A better music score would help a lot.

  • thank god you posted this now i don't have to do summer reading

  • Didn't know there was a cartoon of the hobbit till I clicked on a link, watched it and I have got to say, it's class :)

  • @MultiGameFreakz this is so different from the book, by different i mean seriously messed up as it skips the intro completely, destroys every aspect of the book and bakshi and whoever completely scrapped this animation in the following films.

  • @able2ful1 however i like it but hate the other two. i miss 1999

  • the songs in the movie remind me of the lemiwinks episode in southpark

  • @JacobCohen42 THats because the stupid lemmiwinks song was based on this song

    south park sucks

  • Awasome!!!

  • Bombur reminds me of Cartman.

  • Holy shit the intro is rushed

  • Wow, The Hobbit's out already?! I thought it was supposed to come out next year! Awesome, I can't wait to-...whoa, that budget was a little misspent.

  • fili kili balin and dwalin

    WAT DA HELL

  • bilbos face is as creepy as shit

  • @STARSCREAM2294 in 1977 animation wasn't as good as now, i guess that's why.

  • Wow... first I was: Phew! Shmendrik got ooold ^^

Its the same kind of style as in "The Last Unicorn"...great!

  • @BeAngeled84 Same Directors (Rankin/Bass), most likely the same animators as well.

  • no wonder bilbo hated his b-day party in lord of the rings.

  • You can definitely tell this was made by Rankin/Bass haha

  • Wow, this film takes out too many parts :( I guess that's what you have to do to squeeze it into a 70's film. They took out my favorite part. I hope not much is taken from the 2012 version.

  • @drefeno They aren't taking stuff out in the new films; on the contrary, they are adding new stuff in from the Book of Unfinished Tales and Tolkien's notes, mostly concerning what Gandalf was up to when he left Bilbo and the dwarves to their own devices.

  • really GANDALF? wait wut? Am i confused?

  • 1:34 Eep.

  • I used to watch this movie all the time when I was little with my dad. I must say, this movie follows the book SO well. Can't wait to see what the live action one is going to be like. :D

  • Wow I 4got about this

  • Bilbo was gonna go on an adventure....but then he got high!

  • My art teacher showed this to my class in elementary school. The Bilbo vs. spiders scene was epic and I was so glad I saw this before the live action trilogy, it added so much. He also showed us the Gargoyles animated movie (the one that started the animated series). So yea, he was awesome.

  • @mega1232 I'd say Bilbo had his fair share of difficulty

  • i have the lord of the rings cartoon but just heard of this now

    kool

didnt know till last year that it was from the 70s

  • I wonder who had the hardest journey Frodo or Bilbo

  • @AngelDrive9 I say Frodo. I mean, look at all the crap he had to endure during his journey!

  • One of my all time favorite movies when i was a child. Brings back so many memories.

  • i'm going to get so high at watch all of this! i feel once i do all the secrets of the world will be revealed to me.

  • I'm 18 now and I use to watch this in like 3rd grade. Can't believe I'm watching it again! The music, both background and actual sung songs, are incredible.

  • I wonder how epic the 2012 version will be compared to this?!

  • @12:22 "Bilbo Baggins, a bur- a hobbit."

"A burrahobbit?" - ask the trolls.

  • 1:34 I'm gonna have nightmares.

  • I remember watching all the movies when I was a kid, I'm 43 now. I read the books about a 10 times.

  • @dracodrg6805 You too, huh? :D

Yeah, I think I've read 'The Hobbit' about 7 or 8 times now - I lost count. I'm STILL reading it! :)

  • I think we all know why we are here ;) haha.

  • Dwalin's appearance made me laugh so hard for some reason

  • Mr Bilbo Baggins is awsome! he is so hospitable even though those Dwarfs were such rude house guests!

  • What the hell kind of pipe is that at 1:02? It looks crazy awesome.

  • 1:38

Behold, the greatest facial hair of all time!

  • @AntiFaithNY this movie got me into LOTR too. Love it :) this movie was amazing

  • If you ask me, JRR Tolkien is the best author in the world, hands down. There is magic in his words that place you in his world, and you walk in this world through each chapter and each and every word.

I have to admit though, I am very anxiously awaiting the Hobbit next December :D

I hear it's supposed to be closer to what the book states. I've read 'The Hobbit' either 7 or 8 times now (I lost count), and it gets better each time :).

  • @celticbattleaxe he even created languages, Dwarf, elvish, etc... maps of his worlds he had a great mind

  • @DrinkToIreland Indeed :). Sinardin is my favorite :D

  • @DrinkToIreland So,...you live in the good 'ol Emerald Isle? :)

I'm from the Dempsey and McClain clan of Ireland as well as the Gordon highlanders of Scotland.

  • @celticbattleaxe ah no i don't live in Ireland... I am 50% scottish. I am a Campbell, Farquharson, and a Davidson. I am about 15% irish though :P. I live in America but soon I am moving to scotland :) Cheers

  • @DrinkToIreland Lucky you! I'd do ANYTHING to go back to home - you think you could fit me in the suitcase? :). I also live in the US. I don't know what percentage Irish I am, but I have natural red highlights in my brown hair. Looks cool, too :D.

    I'll drink to that! :D

Now...where the heck did I put my spare Guiness? :)

  • @celticbattleaxe haha. Don't know if i have room in my suitcase i have to put my bagpipes somewhere

  • @DrinkToIreland You want to see a skinny-guy fit into a suitcase with your bagpipes (I'll try not to play them on the plane in the suitcase with everyone wondering what the bloody-heck is going on xD )? I could :)

    I'm only 135 lbs.

  • @DrinkToIreland I know - everyone would wonder what the $#%& is going on when they hear a bagpipe from SOMEONE'S suitcase. xD

'Course, they'd probably remove us - but it would be SO damn funny! :)

Sike, I'm just saying - I wouldn't do that. I'll come over some time in the future :)

Enjoy your trip! - though I still think I could fit in the suitcase :)

  • @celticbattleaxe haha thanks mate

  • @DrinkToIreland Yep! Anytime :)

  • I remember watching this movie before I saw the Lord of the Rings. Not knowing they had connections. When I saw the Lord of the Rings, I was like "wait a minute. This is like that Hobbit movie".

  • Lemmiwinks song starts at 8:10

  • Am I the only one that didn't like this movie? It felt like a musical instead of Lord of the Rings. The pacing wasn't good. Plus many other things were wrong with this movie. I actually thought this movie was bad. It also targets one demographic, usually kids. The attention span of this movie is short.

Peter Jackson will do better than this.

  • @soadpwnsyou well it was made in 1977, things was different then. Plus have you read the book? its full of songs and light hearted, different pace than the LOTR books. Still i agree, i cant wait for Peter Jacksons version! should be great, just hope he doesnt change the story too much like he did with LOTR, he still did a great job tho

  • @CRileymcr Actually, apparently they're gonna have a bunch of songs in Jackson's too :D

  • i dont need peter jackson.. the movie is right here.. im not waiting until december.. enjoy

  • @DoctorComics My thoughts exactly!

  • @DoctorComics At least Peter Jackson's version will be better.

  • @Trekiefreak777 who said it will be better? it will be a movie, not an animated&well narrated cartoon u cant compare such things

  • I really hope the live adaptation is better than this, but somehow I doubt it.

    This was amazing...

And I love it's getting view because people want to see what the hobbit is all about. It's a classic.

  • @borgoff55 i didnt really like this movie and also peter jackson is making the hobbit.. nothing can possibly go wrong

  • The Fili and Kili of the 2012 Hobbit movie look NOTHING alike. Twins, my ass.

  • @Anathar88 some twins in real life dont look like each other either

  • By "at your service" we mean "we gonna eat all your cookies".

  • @aarondirebear They're just there to clear the table by eating his food.

  • lol i love it at 7:22

  • How amazing it would be to see this done with the original artwork, but with more fluid animation. The flatwork is just so phenomenal. Really does Rankin Bass great tribute.

  • Oin sir and Gloin sir..

  • love the music in this rendition

"enough!! I am gandalf, and gandalf means me!

  • Man this brings back great memories. I would have been thrilled if the Lotr movies had been this good but were a million times better and I hope the same for the new Hobbit. Trailer was awesome and peter Jackson has yet to make a bad movie so my hopes are high.

  • is the same song? why?

  • MEMORIES, RUSHING, BACK, GAH!

  • The artwork in this movie is so amazing! <3

  • May the hair on his toes never fall out! :D HAHA

  • A whole lot quicker than the book! Can't wait to see the 1012 movie!

  • Damn! I remember this movie. I had it as a kid, i didn't know it came in 77

  • Anyone here because they saw the Hobbit trailer the they want to see what they're in for? :D

  • @MrDaratum yeah!

  • @MrDaratum i am

  • @MrDaratum just read the hobbit book like all the other normal fans -.-

  • @CornyTelecaster49 How do you know that I haven't? =__=;

  • @MrDaratum hmm, well I seen the cartoon when I was younger (I had it on VHS!) and I mostly forgot what happened in this movie. and, with the new movie coming out and all, I decided to watch this again! :)

  • @MrDaratum Read the book.

  • @Laconic913 You are the 2nd person to assume I haven't :P

  • @MrDaratum Fair enough. I guess the people who thumbed up your comment hadn't read the book, then.

    SPOILER:

    Bilbo loves his crockery.

  • gandalf sure is a pushy bastard... lol

just walking into bilbos house.. your doing it.. sign here

  • @indigokitteh. I believe it is mixed media. The backgrounds are watercolor, but the moving objects are something different

  • Thank you for posting this movie, I fell in love with it as a child, and to see it again is amazing!

  • Was this done in WATERCOLOR?

  • 7:21 LMAO

  • The Hobbit trailer made me think of this movie :)

  • @ErenorDotCom : Same here!

  • @ErenorDotCom Me too lol

  • Whenever I read the book I always imagine this movie :)

  • hi my name is Griffin Payne Chandler

    i am fourteen years old,

my dad grew up reading the books of this and the lord of the rings

when i must have been about 3-5, my dad showed me this cartoon and i instantly fell in love with everything about lord of the rings, the hobbit and the silmarilion, i am proud to be one of the many few people who have grown up with these magnificant tales of hobbits, dragons, dwarfes and goblins, even though it was 50 years before my birth,

  • @monkeybutlers1234 I wish I knew your dad - he sounds like a fine man :).

  • @celticbattleaxe hes great,

  • @monkeybutlers1234 :) Straight from the book :). What was the chapter? I think it was 'Roast Mutton'.

  • @celticbattleaxe i beileve so

  • @monkeybutlers1234 Yep - it was :). Just checked my copy. I'm currently in chapter 'Inside Information'. This is the 7th or 8th time I've read the book - cover to cover :).

  • Jeez gandalf take a chill pill

  • Thanks to this, I don't have to pain myself into reading the entire book within only a few hours for the analysis I have on this story that's due tomorrow! Thank you so much! :D

  • Don't get me wrong, i love Gandalf. But he is portrayed a lot nicer in the movie than in this and the books xx

  • @SarrasiHope hes nice or scary depends on werther he is angry or happy but he is never cruel

  • I have this on tape!

  • They should have English accents. This is an abomination.

  • @nachocheese154
