sir thats not 100 % true , there are lots of thrash, black and death metal bands who arent inspired by hardcore but its true that hardcore was a big influence for this genres in general
Yeah, but until Death and Black Metal came into the picture and ripped off the blast beat from Grindcore. Which originally came from Hardcore lol You should check out the Beastie Boys "Riot Fight" and DRI's " Makes No Sence."
@AssySuarez , Death Metal ripped off the Blast Beat form Grind Core? HA HA Ever listen to the Celtic Frost tune, Visual Aggression, for a sample? Grindcore came later, it derived from Death Metal.
@bloodisland1 no argument there, but my main argument was at the guy saying "Blast Beats come from Grindcore". Like you, I believe hardcore was a key influence on the Thrash and Death Metal bands. The bands in the scene all counted those hardcore influences, pretty much. That's what Thrash was/is to me anyway a blend of Punk, Hardcore, and Metal and whatever else the bands add to it.D.R.I. Black Flag, Discharge blah blah blah Nowadays the label thing is so damn anal more than it was then.
@swans1997 Actually it derived from hardcore too. Thus the line "Grindcore: To punk for metal and too metal for punk." The blast beat was used by a lot of early hardcore bands. Also Death Metal used Gravity blast.
wow...mick harris fucking pwns...and my opinion is that FETO line up was the best grindcore lineup that ever existed...no band can make such mixture of pure noise and beautiful guitar play as old ND...grindcore these days is rotten, fake and crappy...but in those days, word grindcore had nothing to do with drum machines, shitty gargling vocals and scene fags...in those days it actually took a talent to play this way....FETO LINEUP FOREVER
it was an all-star lineup for sure. i'm rather partial to Walker, Steer & Owens as my ultimate grindcore lineup, but the FETO was pretty damn amazing too.

Mick Harris was a true character, one of the earliest purveyors of the 'blast-beat'(remember he was blasting out back in '86!)As a drummer he should be given more credit due. This was one of the better line-ups of Napalm Death too.We may be desensitized to this level of musical intensity now,but back then it was a new thing! Classic stuff. Why didn't Earache put it on The DVD?
You guys arguing about what category to put Napalm Death into. Were any off you people off of mama's tit yet when these guys came onto the scene?1986-87? keep you opinions to yourself
But you said that brutal death and grindcore are the same. Which they're not.
And grind might have been influenced by early death metal, but they were both forming around the same time. You can tell how much grind came from hardcore, the vocals, music, everything, it was basically just another evolution.
ND are my fav band all time but now they should end...no one is from yhe original line up.and i only saw ND in 2007(yeah portugal sucks)and the gig was like ...shit?!
