Sometimes I look at the microSD flash memory card that is the size of my pinky fingernail and that it holds 8 gigs, and I wonder how insane it is that just a few years ago you needed a big thing like that for just 100megs. Lithium batteries and flash memory are two of the greatest things since the internet explosion in the 90s, I think.
they failed because iomega kept pioperiety rights on the zip disk design, not allowing bootleg companies to flood the market with blank disks like they have done with the 3" floppies. Simple as that. There is only like three companies that make that disk, and they make them expensive.
I still use zip drives and for a floppy , 100MB is a lot of space well for a disk drive , The reason why zip never took off is because they didn't have Computer makers include it with the computers.
not true. every dell/compaq I saw in offices came with zip drives back in the late 90s-early 00s. Just that the disks are so damn expensive. It is cheaper to just use a Flash Drive.
it's funny to compare the 100 megabyte zip drive to the modern 50 gig sim cards

Nah. The reaosn they failed is because they are pure crap. The discs cost a bomb, are utterly unreliable and damn slow. THAT is why they failed.

Sorry, I meant "Propriety", not "pioperiety"

3 companies... like IOmega, Sony and FujiFilm?

I thought they failed because they did horrible in advertising (Which they did the same thing with the Jaz Disks) and what abercrombie4life said.

They failed because of USB. plain and simple. If they had come out 5 years earlier they would have become the most popular storage medium

@a2r1v1i2s The "click of death" issue that made you lose all your data on a disk didn't help its sales much either.
