They did invade China. Sino-Indian War in 1962. Look at any history book, English, Hindi, Chinese it doesn't matter they all clearly states that Nehru suprised attacked the Chinese who were already low on resources from fighting in Korea and Vietnam. But even though the Chinese were ill prepared they had conbat experience and a superior commander. The Indian quickly withdrew and this event was never talked about again.
And that is why Tibet is part of China not India. But the obsession with colonizing Tibet is a legacy of the British Empire, and the influence of the dead empire on her former crown jewel is waning. Other that that the Chinese and Indians coexisted for thousands of years without wars. The fact that the disputed land is not arable and largely uninhabited makes a second war between China and India largely unlikely. The Indians are smart and they know China is a better friend/ally than the US.

I think that with India, if you let the market economy take over, then the population control will take care of itself. As inflation increases and prices rise, then people cut back. One thing that people will plan more is family. Sooner or later, people will cut back on the number of kids that they will have because of the rising expense.
That is a good assumption, but the reaity is that India has a massive middle class. A middle class that can afford atleast 2 children. This will always remain a problem. Personally I see overpopulation as a benefit more than anything else.

US defense of Taiwan will never occur as China will never engage militarily in the near future and US lack the proper initiative to defend.
Fighting is not likely between a Great Power and a Superpower with high nuclear capabilities. Confrontation through indirect support will continue in Asia and in Africa, just look at China's export of its weapon's cache. Direct confrontation will not occur because neither side wants to disturb the status quo, unless there's a notion for desperation. Taiwan, depends on the mainland for imported agriculture, water, and other resources, would not want to disturb the current peace.
Why a confrontation might involve a couple of interceptors and spy aircrafts. China is not so persistent to demand for sovereignty over Taiwan, and US is not persistent to recognize the pre-Nixon era concept of Taiwan's de facto sovereignty over China. You look at the extensive economic exchange between the US and China.
A large military confrontation is not necessary to resolve the political deadlock of Taiwan. Eventually, either formal separation of the two separation of the states will be accepted, or the states are going to unite based on political and economical interests. PRC has a lot of other concerns besides Taiwan, and it is trivial to regard such matter with something as serious as military confrontation.
If China is to be believed, a military confrontation WILL be necessary!
The Chinese have made it QUITE clear that Taiwan will NEVER be allowed to declare independence and leave the fold. If Taiwan tries, China will attack. Thus bringing the U.S. to Taiwan's defense.
As far as unity. Don't bet on it.

Hey I'm Chinese, and I gotta say. It's gonna be a long time before Chinese military is on the same footing as US. We have a very limited navy. A large, but outdated airforce with only a few third generation fighters and other soviet hand-me-downs. The army is somewhat strong, but armored forces are outdisciplined, outtrained, and outfitted when compared to US armored divisions.
China's main military aims are to maintain hegemony over its East Asian sphere of influence, nothing more.

If you go to any Chinese military blog site, or even sinodefence (which is a pretty pessemetic source of PLA information, run by british people), you'll find that the PLA is doing a lot of development. It's naval build up during the last five years has been unprecedented.

China's forces field vintage 1980 armor and suffer significant shortcomings in command and control, air defense, logistics, and communications. The PLAAF lags behind those of westren powers. Size never mattes. look what alexander did to king darius or charlemagne in his battles against arabs.

Really too early to think China is "Asia's most advanced and powerful military force". Japan's navy can wipe the floor with the PLAN. PLAN vs. USN? Don't even think about it. No chance at all. They did invade China. Sino-Indian War in 1962. Look at any history book, English, Hindi, Chinese it doesn't matter they all clearly states that Nehru suprised attacked the Chinese who were already low on resources from fighting in Korea and Vietnam. But even though the Chinese were ill prepared they had conbat experience and a superior commander. The Indian quickly withdrew and this event was never talked about again.

And that is why Tibet is part of China not India. But the obsession with colonizing Tibet is a legacy of the British Empire, and the influence of the dead empire on her former crown jewel is waning. Other that that the Chinese and Indians coexisted for thousands of years without wars. The fact that the disputed land is not arable and largely uninhabited makes a second war between China and India largely unlikely. The Indians are smart and they know China is a better friend/ally than the US.

There was a gradual escalation of fighting on their mutual borders and provocations by Indians moving their outposts to surround the Chinese units facing them. The Chinese launched a series of attacks that pushed the Indians back to the original stated border between the two countries.

He wanted a war to make himself popular because of domestic problems. The PLA units were veterans of the Tibet Invasion and subsequent fighting Tibetan guerillas. The Chinese were aware that fighting was inevitable and stock piled weapons, ammo and other supplies close to their outposts

I think that with India, if you let the market economy take over, then the population control will take care of itself. As inflation increases and prices rise, then people cut back. One thing that people will plan more is family. Sooner or later, people will cut back on the number of kids that they will have because of the rising expense.

Well, I don' t think india would ever try to occupy those locations, because they never have. But I understand tibet is to China, as Kashmir is to India. My only concern is the way China goes about occupying Tibet. I wish the Dalai Lama and PRC could find some agreeing point.
China should really consider making some allies. They have sorrounded themselves with enemies just as germany did. Vietnam, SouthKorea, Taiwan, Tibet, Russia, India, U.S.

I agree with you on that, India is a democratic nation with many different languages, religions and cultures. Its not like PRC and it's communism. I decision takes months.
But at the same time, PRC's population limitation steps are biting their ass. In 20 years the PRC's labor workforce is going to be in their 30-40's. India's will be in it's 20's.
Poverty sucks. But how's the PRC going to fight it if 70% of their population is super old?

Taiwan is also of little strategic importance to the US, as the USN and USAF has bases throughout the western and central pacific: Guam, Iwo Jima, the Ryukus, central pacific islands, Korean sites, and Japanese sites. Taiwan is a militarily insignificant island with its beached shores and outdated defenses in the Spratlies. US defense of Taiwan will never occur as China will never engage militarily in the near future and US lack the proper initiative to defend.

Fighting is not likely between a Great Power and a Superpower with high nuclear capabilities. Confrontation through indirect support will continue in Asia and in Africa, just look at China's export of its weapon's cache. Direct confrontation will not occur because neither side wants to disturb the status quo, unless there's a notion for desperation. Taiwan, depends on the mainland for imported agriculture, water, and other resources, would not want to disturb the current peace.

Why a confrontation might involve a couple of interceptors and spy aircrafts. China is not so persistent to demand for sovereignty over Taiwan, and US is not persistent to recognize the pre-Nixon era concept of Taiwan's de facto sovereignty over China. You look at the extensive economic exchange between the US and China.

A large military confrontation is not necessary to resolve the political deadlock of Taiwan. Eventually, either formal separation of the two separation of the states will be accepted, or the states are going to unite based on political and economical interests. PRC has a lot of other concerns besides Taiwan, and it is trivial to regard such matter with something as serious as military confrontation.

Taiwan is already quite happy with its de facto independence and will not cede itself to the Communist Chinese government.

Hey I'm Chinese, and I gotta say. It's gonna be a long time before Chinese military is on the same footing as US. We have a very limited navy. A large, but outdated airforce with only a few third generation fighters and other soviet hand-me-downs. The army is somewhat strong, but armored forces are outdisciplined, outtrained, and outfitted when compared to US armored divisions.
China's main military aims are to maintain hegemony over its East Asian sphere of influence, nothing more.

As an American, I have to say I agree with you on everyone of your points.
In a conflict with my country, Chinese military leaders hope to overwhelm American forces with raw Chinese troop numbers.
China is only now looking to buy its first aircraft carrier from Russia.
Frankly, when we go to war to help defend Taiwan, China is going to lose. The fact that it has hundreds of missiles aimed at Taiwan is not going to change anything.
It will be bloody, but ultimately we will win.

IIRC, the Taiwan Strait is 120 miles across. That's a lot of blue water to amphib an invasion force across. Under fire the whole way from Los Angeles and Virginia class attack subs. Frankly, Chinese dominance in the Western Pacific depends on an American withdrawal. With Obama running things, that's not implausible.

I highly doubt that the US can win a war with China, on China's turf. US has previously lost to China in Korea and Vietnam.
As a native of Taiwan, I'm sure an actual war will never occur with the Mainland. After all we are the same race. Two possible future for the future of Taiwan involving reunification with the mainland are 1) the more optimistic future involving the fall of Communism in China and re-establishment of the old Republic and 2) Communist China forces Taiwan in an "Anschluss."

Well, if you're meaning the U.S. getting infantry troops to mainland China and THEN fighting a war, I'd probably agree with you. As the logistics of getting hundreds of thousands to Chinese soil and holding on to its amphibious assault would be enormous, I don't think the U.S. would even try.
However, if the two countries were next door neighbors and a war broke out, China would DEFINITELY lose!
Remember, MacArthur wanted to drop nuclear bombs on China during the Korea War.

It's naval build up during the last five years has been unprecedented.

China's forces field vintage 1980 armor and suffer significant shortcomings in command and control, air defense, logistics, and communications. The PLAAF lags behind those of westren powers. Also China "planned" to build aircraft carriers domesticlay but currently has none under construction. China is a powerful force but its not as powerful as westren nations. Size never mattes. look what alexander did to king darius or charlemagne in his battles against arabs.

Really too early to think China is "Asia's most advanced and powerful military force". Japan's navy can wipe the floor with the PLAN. PLAN vs. USN? Don't even think about it. No chance at all. Land war with Russia? Hah, stop dreaming, (well, maybe in the long run but it won't go there tho). Nuclear war with any of the major powers? Lets not get suicidal here. In the end, China has great potential, but how it builds up it's force will ultimately decide how others react. Positively or Negatively.

The RF Army would clean up the PLA - they dont have the roads, the discipline or the motorization. Further, RF Army have more rocket corps. And the RF air force has Strategic Bombers that can reach Beijing. You need 2 things to win wars, Artillery (rockets and guns) and Strat Bombers. RF wins. Even if the Chinese get 100km into Siberia, they get nuked by the Russians on their own soil (which is allowed). Nuff said.

econmically open, politically strict. That's not communism, it's plain old fascism, her arch enemy! I'm not worried, you can take over the cities, chinese can't work in the bush, ask Korea war vets! All that these communists do is since they care not for human life (we're just bugs!) they send swarms like bad guys on a game, hoping to score lucky hits. Keep your analog T.V.'s tuned in on the invasion, it'll be some sorta ray that wipes out power.
