These people are doing everybody a favor. It is normal helicopter line patrol done routinely to keep the electric grid more reliable. My hats off to them. It is what I do for a living!!

Yup..they do this all the time. Many of the lines are spread out in almost unaccessible areas and "flying the lines" is the most efficient and cost effective way of checking things out.

They do similar things with oil pipelines in the oilfields. Flying along the pipeline looking for leaks, but usually they use a plane for this rather than a helicopter.
