FYI I just found this vlog, interesting. I own and maintain my own server and its the best thing if you want to run a video site, more dependable than dreamhost. I pay $60 a month and I am happy than ever :)
$250 a month is a lot of money. It shouldn't cost that much to run a website of that size. I think he needs to find a new web host - a lot of web host would've cost him only $250 a year. For example dream host dot com costs only $9 for unlimited storage and bandwidth.
@phreerider dreamhost has additional costs just like other hosting providers. It says 8.95 for unlimited bandwidth for introduction, but when it comes with transferring data. It says right there that it'd have additional costs. It is not cheap when the data is increasing, which it requires for vlogs and comments.
@phreerider Each DreamHost plan comes with a different amount of included bandwidth per month, as well as a cost for any extra transfer over that. Generally it makes sense to upgrade to the next plan as soon as you go over your current plan's allotment. Our bandwidth allocations are very generous and are rarely ever even close to being reached by any of our clients! Bandwidth transfer does not count FTP updates or email bandwidth, but it does count anonymous FTP downloads.
@aslitself I've been with them for over 4 years now - I run a real estate video tour business for realtors (tordia images dot com) - I host all of the videos, all of them are over 150mb (HD videos). My last bill with them were for 239 dollars for a year. I'm provided with 670GB of storage and 14236 GB of bandwidth usage.
ASLitself: Thanks for the suggestion of asking ConvoRelay for the sponsorship of aslRocks.net. It's amazing to see a huge number of deaf viewers and vloggers that exceeded our expections. Thanks again aslitself. WG
