Its been 18 years since this game and that intro, and none of the players or their coaches are still playing , but I still get chills and goose bumps when I watch this intro. I reminds me of my days growing up watching college football on Saturday morning, and then playing football in the back yard or park with my friends, just around the corner from main street. AWESOME STUFF!!!

@CMGWW. Boy do I remember that 2002 beatdown in Tallahassee! You guys cleaned FSU's clock. The result was almost as bad as the 37-0 shellacking the Seminoles gave Notre Dame in 2003 in South Bend. As for 1993, one of the quirks of the system is that when a team loses matters (maybe more than it should). Best of luck to the Irish in 2011. I'd like nothing better than a BCS title game between the Seminoles and Irish. I think FSU is (at least) a year away from being at that level though.
Not a fan of either team, but this was an incredible game. I remember a packed rec room at the frat house I was living in at the time. It was an incredible game, one of college football's regular season best. And the following week, no shock that Boston College was able to end the Irish's NC hopes after they spent so much energy and emotion in winning this game.
The perfect intro to a perfect game. Almost 20 years now and this is still one college football's greatest games. It had it all and, most importantly, was left untouched by the schlocky, over-the-top, overhyped ESPNization. NBC knows how to produce a football game. And just like with the Olympics, it's done with total class. To put it another way, NBC is Grace Kelly and ESPN is Sandra Bernhard.
As a lifelong FSU fan, it just hit me that the '93 ND win against the Noles has probably been the last greatest win in program history. To be more specific...the SECOND quarter of that game was probably the greatest quarter of football for the Irish since then. The only other great moments I can think of would be Willingham's great start (and win vs FSU in 'Tally) in his first or second year, but they still finished that season blundering...

For all you Florida State fans, you need to thank BC for beating ND the next week and because of that you got into the National Title game with Nebraska. That next week's game was the beginning of the end of ND dominance of football and since then they have had only 1 bowl win since 1994.

The Irish pushed around FSU the field all day in this game. FSU made it close at the end but ND never received the credit it deserved for the beating the "unbeatable team of the century". The media had already made up its mind early in the season that FSU was getting the title.
God the Irish have become a joke...at least under Charlie Weis even though they stunk they were interesting and fun to watch...now under Kelly so far they stink AND they are dull...I think Mr. Kelly is in over his head...this ain't Cincinnati...

Sorry man, OSU/UM doesn't date back as far as ND/UM. And plus your OSU/UM game happened in the 21st century, not the 20th, so you have about 90 years of college football before declaring it "game of the century".... Notre Dame and Michigan are the 2 all time winningest programs in college football. OSU/Mich 2006 will NEVER compare to this game. ND may have slipped as had FSU, but then again so has UM, so don't try to talk crap...

@tkcarr sec teams have always exposed the obvious from other conferences. the bcs sec winning streak is nothing new. the big twelve was the only conference that came close to challenging sec teams in major bowl games.
Well, in this case they did for sure. WVA was the ONLY team in '93 to have a gripe with FSU getting the Orange Bowl against Nebraska. The funny thing is that the 1994 and 2001 Sugar Bowls are the ONLY time in my life I have rooted for Florida. Normally, I would root for North Korea over UF!

As an Alabama fan, I understand a Notre Dames fans frustration. ND, Like Bama, has hired several head coaches since their last successful one, for all the wrong reasons. Davie shouldn't have been considered, Willingham was a one team wonder at Stanford, milked it, and when on to ruin two programs, and Weis had never lead a college program before. I think Kelley will win at Notre Dame. Lou Holtz dealt with the same admissions problems, and won. They just need a good, credible coach.
Ty was hired to clean up the image and do things the right way, and Ty did just that. Problem is that Ty is too clean for his own good, so as soon as he got the programs fixed, he got a foot in the ass out the door so the team could win again.

FSU doesn't get to pick where it plays bowls. The Bowl Committees do that. Our D was bad last year but so was yours. Wisconsin showed that. Safe to say that even though Wisconsin "manhandled" my Hurricanes..they still only scored 20. That's called keeping us in the game. Unfortunately our O-Line didn't feel compelled to do so..:[
Call me overly optimistic but the defense you saw last year will not be the one you see this year. That squad was poorly coached and headed by a legend who wanted to retire. That is not the case this year.
The only way FSU CAN go is up as far as defense goes. I can't imagine them being any worse than they were during the '09 season. As for "poorly coached" .. Yea..Mickey Andrews doesn't know what a zone defense is. But, best of luck to FSU next year. I'm pretty confident that even the most staunch opposition of FSU is expecting some kind of improvement with the recruiting class they had last year. We all know how SOME five star prospects end up though..
Micky's son died three years ago and he wanted to quit but was talked into staying. His heart was not in it. The other coaches other than Odell Haggins were pretty bad. The talent is there and now so are the coaches. I have high hopes for next year.
I live in Tallahassee..well aware of the situation. I've met Odell Haggins personally..used to sell him bait when he'd go fishing on Lake Iamonia or Talquin. He's good people. He just had a young group this year.. As for Amato, don't know what the hell they saw in him to keep him around.
Bowden's downfall had been his strength. Loyalty. Chuck needed a job and two more years to qualify for the Florida Teachers Pension and Bowden brought him back for past successes which failed to repeat. Same same with Mickey. Anyone who has dealt with elderly relatives knows the deal. It was time for a change.

No team in any sport is more important to its sport then Notre Dame is to college football...my favorite 2 college football games in the last 20 years are this game and ND/USC in 2005...wake up the echos! Go Irish!

You have absolutely got to be kidding me that the OSU/Mich game in 2006 was the game of the century. Maybe that would have been the case if OSU had not gotten the living crap beat out of them by Florida the next game. I mean my high school team could have played Florida closer than OSU did in that game. The OSU Becky's got rolled and smoked like a joint!

Sorry man, OSU/UM doesn't date back as far as ND/UM. And plus your OSU/UM game happened in the 21st century, not the 20th, so you have about 90 years of college football before declaring it "game of the century".... Notre Dame and Michigan are the 2 all time winningest programs in college football. OSU/Mich 2006 will NEVER compare to this game. ND may have slipped as had FSU, but then again so has UM, so don't try to talk crap...

This was one of the greatest games ever. But does anyone else remember how FSU WR, Matt Fryer, moaned and groaned anout how FSU deserved another chance to play for the National Title? Grnted ND would lose a week later to BC, but how is it the FSU wins the National Title that year when they lost to ND head to head? Truly, ND was robbed of their 12th National Title.

Gave me Goosebumps!!!!! I played at Permian HS (Friday Night Lights) in Odessa,TX and every Pop Warner game, Every Junior High game and every pick up game all I could think of is playing MoJO football.

Well, in this case they did for sure. WVA was the ONLY team in '93 to have a gripe with FSU getting the Orange Bowl against Nebraska. The funny thing is that the 1994 and 2001 Sugar Bowls are the ONLY time in my life I have rooted for Florida. Normally, I would root for North Korea over UF!

OHio state or Vtech would be the only other challenge.. i will have to watch boise to see what they got...i am not sold on them yet..

I DO hate Florida with a passion As to WVA, they were motivated as had they won they would have been the ONLY undefeated team that year. However, they were a fraud from the Big Least and couldn't stay with the Big Boys. Next year? Watch out for Boise!

@tkcarr after what happended to cincinatti against florida, i beleive that the big east may not be a bcs conference anymore...it was a warmup game for florida. Florida was sleepwalking and scored 90...they are still scoring as we speak....Boise only looks good because they play against terrible defenses of the pac ten. Everyone falls head over heals.....they will get tested against the first physical team they have played since the last sec team they played...Vtech

They beat them on a last second field goal...hardly an ass kicking and despite that loss Notre Dame should have still won the national title due to their win in this game. It's too bad BC screwed everything up because we likely would have gotten a rematch in the Fiesta between Florida State and Notre Dame.

As an Alabama fan, I understand a Notre Dames fans frustration. ND, Like Bama, has hired several head coaches since their last successful one, for all the wrong reasons. Davie shouldn't have been considered, Willingham was a one team wonder at Stanford, milked it, and when on to ruin two programs, and Weis had never lead a college program before. I think Kelley will win at Notre Dame. Lou Holtz dealt with the same admissions problems, and won. They just need a good, credible coach.

I'm sure Miami would roll FSU's defense up and smoke it like a cig if they were to play again now that Miami's offense has things figured out and gets rolling a good bit faster. First game of the season and they clipped FSU's raggedy ass d for shy of 400 passing yards..

FSU doesn't get to pick where it plays bowls. The Bowl Committees do that. Our D was bad last year but so was yours. Wisconsin showed that. Also, that game came down to the last play so don't get too uppity. Lets see what Stoops does. BTW in 2000 you lost to Washington so the BCS did you in not FSU.

Call me overly optimistic but the defense you saw last year will not be the one you see this year. That squad was poorly coached and headed by a legend who wanted to retire. That is not the case this year.

The only way FSU CAN go is up as far as defense goes. I can't imagine them being any worse than they were during the '09 season. As for "poorly coached" .. Yea..Mickey Andrews doesn't know what a zone defense is. But, best of luck to FSU next year. I'm pretty confident that even the most staunch opposition of FSU is expecting some kind of improvement with the recruiting class they had last year. We all know how SOME five star prospects end up though..

Micky's son died three years ago and he wanted to quit but was talked into staying. His heart was not in it. The other coaches other than Odell Haggins were pretty bad. The talent is there and now so are the coaches. I have high hopes for next year.

I live in Tallahassee..well aware of the situation. I've met Odell Haggins personally..used to sell him bait when he'd go fishing on Lake Iamonia or Talquin. He's good people. He just had a young group this year.. As for Amato, don't know what the hell they saw in him to keep him around.

Bowden's downfall had been his strength. Loyalty. Chuck needed a job and two more years to qualify for the Florida Teachers Pension and Bowden brought him back for past successes which failed to repeat. Same same with Mickey. Anyone who has dealt with elderly relatives knows the deal. It was time for a change.

You are missing it. Mickey was done. He's 69, lost his son and has grandchildren to raise. He's won two titles and done all he could do in CFB. He was just going through the motions. Just like you or I would do in the same situation. They should have let him retire in 2008, but then Bowden would have put in Amato!

BC was not unranked, they were ranked #16. Even with that loss, ND still should have won the title based on head to head with FSU. At the worst, it should have been a split title.

As a Steeler fan, I was always conflicted with "The Bus," as a pro you can't deny he was a great Steeler....but as a college fan I still am haunted by the Snow Bowl.
