  • The King of the Outlaws

  • Many years ago when I stopped at a little cafe on the road to Lubbock, a little boy would come over and sit nearby and hustle some change to put in the jukebox. The song he played was always by Waylon Jennings, who he proudly offered was his Daddy. I've always wondered about this child, and the dark-haired woman working there. A price is paid for art, which may be priceless.

  • I got my name from this song..I love it!!!

  • Music, beautiful, stands the test of time.

  • Tear-jerker songs. Waylon sure knew how to make your heart feel like it was gonna break into little pieces. Country music just ain't what it used to be.

  • It is to bad that we lost Waylon, but when he got clean, he didn't make anymore records. he was a beautiful singer

  • I would challenge any so called country singer to write a song like this. Sick of the crap you hear on the radio on most stations today.

  • I love both versions but Waylon is one of my favorite singers of all time.

  • my papa used to sing this song to me all the time when i was younger.....and my name is amanda....he passed away two years ago and i miss him so much so glad i could listen to this song brings back so many memories

  • I named my daughter after this song. Right after that every girl was named Amanda

    Pretty song

  • I love this version of the song and the Don Williams version too. Thanks for posting.

  • Whether you like Don's version or Waylon's is of personal opinion. I love them both but I to me, Waylon has a stronger voice. He's perfect. This song brings back so many wonderful memories. You just don't get this sound anymore. The greatest all time country boys - Cash, Waylon, Willy, Kristofferson. True country.

  • Well, I've read the comments and there isn't anything I can add to or about Waylon's

greatness , But I've been told that I resemble The OUTLAW

And that Flat suits the Hell out of me......And

Now .....back to Waylon's video's. May He Rest in Peace..... Ray Rogers

  • waylon is good but i like don williams better

  • Love this song. It brings back memories of when my girls were younger and I would sing it to them.

  • I just played this video and Jessi Coulter's "I'm Not Lisa." Sweet!

  • @Grisbi6 Was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy Jesse Colter and Waylon at a small venue in the late 70's. Long live outlaw country, JC has an incredable voice,, and what can be said about the late, great "Walon Jennings

  • Great song, but for personal reasons, I'd change the title to "Aroha" ;)

  • my grandma would play this song for me

  • I apologize =P Just please understand that the quality of a song has nothing to do with chart position =) I mean Lady GaGa has topped the charts... 'Nuff said.

  • yeah, this INCREDIBLE song is better than anything that MTV skank could ever achieve, who the hell will remember Lady Gaga 10 years from now anyway?

  • hehe... I have a daughter named after this song. I decided on it riding home on the school bus. Gotta love Waylon (and Jessi.)

  • A classic by Waylon for all time

  • I love this song. My Uncle use to sing and play this on his guitar when I was little. This brings back those good memories.

  • It's a matter of opinion. Billboard charts are just other people's opionions. They're both great versions...in MY opinion.

  • my grandpa sings this too me. it makes me cry everytime. i love it. :]

  • My dad named me from this song :)

  • lol my cousin was named after this song to

  • Me too! :-D

  • from THE RAMBLIN' MAN album. released October 1974 RCA victor. Recorded: Feb-July 1974. Glaser Sound Studio, Nashville Tn. AMANDA (Bob McDill) © '72 Waylon in 1974 I got my first guitar when I was fourteen Now I'm over thirty and still wearin' jeans. Waylon in 1979 Amanda (overdub), I got my first guitar when I was fourteen Well I finally made forty and still wearin' jeans. ccm
  • Correct! No way this is from 79!

  • i wish my ex girl would relizze this was for her and know i love her no matter what she does and i wish she would com ecome back please come back to me amanda

  • best of luck on getting her back

  • This version has the high notes in the background vocals....the way I like it best.

A friend in a long-time local band did this song. Loved his version too. A great song, no doubt about it.

  • This song rocks, but to be honest I prefer the Don Williams version to this one.

  • Actually, Waylon's version of this song is better, and the Billboard chart records prove it. As stated in the video description, Waylon's version went all the way to #1 when it was released in '79, while Don Williams' original '73 version never even cracked the Top 30 on the country charts (his version reached #33 on the Billboard charts).

  • @jlgbky Thank you for the upload, but that comment has shown that you are naive. Billboard position is just a number. I am partial to this version (it holds great memories), but just because it went higher on the charts doesn't mean it's necessarily a better version. It's all a matter of personal preference.

  • I beg to deffer, buddytyree. While you are correct in that it's a "personal preference", calling someone naive on their own page is a more than bit pompous not to mention it's also a bit foolish because ...

IT WENT STRAIGHT TO NUMBER ONE. Apparently a LOT more people listened to and bought THIS version than those who listened to and bought Don Williams' version.

  • When Don released this song, he wasn't famous at all. He stood at the beginning of his career and hardly anybody knew him. I think for someone who brought out one of his first singles (in his country career), he did rather well reaching #33. If Don would have released it a few years later, I'm quite sure he would have reached the top 10 easily because he was a consistent hitmaker in the 70s and 80s, with 17 #1 hits.

I'm a huge DW fan, but really like Waylon's version too.

  • @jlgbgky Well, I also like Waylon's better, but I do NOT think that a high rating on the charts means the song or version is better. If that were the case, then Taylor Swift is "better" than George Jones, an outcome you probably wouldn't agree with.

  • @jlgbgky--Chart positions don't have anything to do with how good a song is. If that was true, then people like Britney Spears and Justin Bieber would be the best songwriters ever.

  • @jlgbgky There is no better version, its just a matter of opinion.

  • @jlgbgky Actually, the chart position has nothing to do with which version is better. It only means the Waylon Jennings version was more popular.

  • @jlgbgky he didnt say which was better or more popular he just sayid he PREFERS the other one . nothing to argue about .

  • @jlgbgky Well as much as I love Waylon, I think Williams version is better. And to be fair, Williams version was a B side...not an A side release as Waylon's was. It is almost certain that Don would have taken it to the top 5 and probably to number 1 as an A side release.

  • @jlgbgky people have prefrences just cause the majority say this one is better doesnt me that Rich has to

  • @jlgbgky The billboard doesnt prove anything...come on Lady freaking Gaga is on there..shouldnt that tell you the billboard is not always right! And this person was just stating their personal opinion which they are entitled to...just like we all are!

  • @jlgbgky that's probably because it was already in peoples heads from 6 years before... anyway everyone is entiotled to their own opinion. i personally like Waylon Jennings better as an artist but Don Williams was very good too. As far as this song I do actually like Don Williams version better.

  • @jlgbgky Yet none of that changes which version one particular person prefers.

  • @jlgbgky both are great. The vibe from them though is completely different. Its a matter of taste not record sales. With his thoughtful style Don Williams has never had great record sales, but he has millions of fans who adore him.

  • @jlgbgky

Have Don and this on my iPod,but suggest you listen to Cal Smith from country bumpkin fame .to me Cal is the best version.

  • @RichXbox360 Both versions are great

  • @RichXbox360 I agree, I like Don Williams' version better, too.
