  • I heard there was something recent as well. does this happen often?

  • @DumbDragon Yes. There are a lot of power outages and track indications. A lot have to do with weather, storms, heat, etc.

  • @CQDX018 Heat? how hot does it get exactly? assuming your talking about weather heat.

  • The signals have battery back-up.

    Often signals go out when no train is in the block.

    Or have you noticed that this signal is always lit and for once it is out?

    I have been able to read target signals while unlit.

    Ambient light enters and reflects back out enough to see the signal's color!

  • A lot of CSX's signals are on power saver mode I think and saves the signal maintainers from changing bulbs so often. A lot of their signals don't come on until the train in within a few miles.

  • I thought most if not all had battery backups. Must all be that of railroad crossing signals.

  • yea i dont want you too get hurt. that would be freaky if you came up too the crossing and the lights started flashing even though the power was out
