@FreckletonBoy Don't bend my words like that. I didn't say that to imply that there was no skill involved or that Beckham hasn't achieved anything. I haven't tried to bring down any of Becks' achievements nor did I have any intention of doing so. I think it's quite clear that he was one of the best and he could've been a lot better if he hadn't left ManU. And I just think people shouldn't like him 'cause of this goal, rather because of his skills and achievements. But he's not nearly a Maradona.
I agree, how could he miss that?? Beckham was lucky, that is all. Don't even try to compare to Diego Maradona, he is so much more skilled. Beckham is way behind.
@generko ehh not really, the goal keeper has to advance off his line when the rest of his team move up the pitch so he's eventually near the edge of the box, this is for a number of reasons e.g; defenders passing the ball back so he's not dealing with a pass on his line which he might end up mis-kicking resulting in an own goal, defenders passing a slow ball back or a clumsy pass meaning he has to run out ahead of the attacker to clear the ball, and also to smother the ball on a counter attack
Becks = celebrity hype...he was bought and sold only for his ability to fill the stands, not his ability to lead a team. He was benched in the Euros during his prime for good reason and has never recovered talent wise sense. He married well and photographs "well" but his football skills aren't so
wait you cant, becuase your probally some low life you sits in their FUCKING basement surfing the internet chirping professional soccer players, accomplish what he has done then talk
dont even try to be a smart ass and say, what has he done?
Wow, Beckham was only a kid and still went for it, it could have backfired big time, this guy was bread for confidence and a famous future ever since he was a pre-teen, and he handled it great thoughout his career. Awesome Becks!
@juanballe07 You mean the free kick and the crazy curve? Yeah, an awesome goal indeed, but it is from a set piece, there are other goals just like Carlos' but from a half volley or even a full volley, now that is crazy tough!
"Goal of the Century"..what a joke. A long punt from the half way line over the head of a Wimbledon keeper who was miles off his line is a rubn of the mill leaguee match...give me a break....I have seen this in Sunday league games.
@partyguinness well said. Because it is Beckham it is "the goal of the century". Same with his free-kicks. Lots of players score goals from free-kicks including Sunday league players. George Best once said of Beckham "He scores the odd-free kick, but he's one-footed, can't beat a man, can;t head the ball, he can't tackle" George was a brilliant player and brilliant judge of a player.
@houghgree2 Similarily, because it's Beckham, you automatically dismiss it. Both the crazy lunatic Becks fans and the haters fall into the same camp, sorry you appear to be a part of it. No, Becks is not a brilliant dribbler and certainly not a goal scorer, but his accuracy with the ball when he has control of it is second to none (not literally, of course there is always someone better). I can see how you can dislike him due to his fame, but it's just lame.
@freethinker4liberty I suggest you start doing some "freethinking" and look through all the media hype that surrounds Beckham-that's if you've got a brain to do that. The only thing that is lame is your attempts to potray me and those who can see through Beckham for what he is as being jealous of his fame. Am I jealous of George Best?Maradona? Wayne Rooney?and many great footballers-no I'm not. I've been watching football for years and I call it as I see it. And Beckham is all hype CONT.
@freethinker4liberty His goal against Greece (it was his 8th free-kick of the game after which the Greece manager complained about all the free-kicks England were given) was his 5th goal in 46 games for England. Wow! that was some record! Not long after he became England's penalty-taker and naturally his pathetic goal-scoring was increased. However, he had to be removed from that role because he was missing too many. Remember the one that the so-called "dead-ball specialist" CONT.
@freethinker4liberty ballooned into the stand?. You only have too look at his goal-scoring stats to debunk the myth of his reputation as being a "dead-ball specialist". It is not quite as easy to dismiss his reputation as being a great crosser of the ball-or as you put it his "accuarcy"-but is crossing is no better than his ability to take a free-kick. He can't beat a man, so he'll cross first time and when the odd one ends up in a goal being scored all his worshippers in the media go into CONT
@freethinker4liberty overdrive. His reputation stands on his free-kicks and crossing of the ball and he is no better at either than "thousands of others" (this time I'm quoting Maradona not George Best). And he is no better at scoring from the half-way line when a goalie is out-of-postion than "thousands of others" either. I don't dislike him because of his fame-I don't particularly dislike him at all. I just don't rate him as a footballer for the same reasons that George Best did not rate him.
@freethinker4liberty if I may just add one more thing to my four previous posts. I remember George Best in his heyday. In terms of media-hype Bestie was the Beckham of the 60s. He was football's first "pop-star". As a person he was terrible and far worse than Becks. On the field however, he more than justified the hype. He was a brilliant player. As I've said, I call it as I see it. I'm interested in the footballer not the person or the hype. As a footballer Beckham just does not rate.
@partyguinness Sure you have.. A young kid trying to make a name for himself tries this shot and you are hating just because he happened to become a famous playboy? Can't you just see through that and watch the clip for what it is. If you're old enough, do you remember what you thought of it when it happened?
@freethinker4liberty Mate, I watched the 1986 World Cup so I was certainly old enough in 1996 to know my football...what did I think at the time? Cheeky effort that's it and that's all it was..I am not a Beckham hater..you think you know me!...I cldnt care less about him and his personal life. England cld do with him at this WC which is a fairly sad indictment on the current English players. Did you see Figueroa's goal against Stoke last year? That was a far better effort and goal.
it wanst luck he actually went for it, great goal but he would probably miss 9 times out of 10, and there are better out there. he hit that from half way, there is pretty much identical goals from further back. think Alonso scored one possibly more for liverpool like that
@adrian5987 He'd hit it 9 out of 10 in practice, but in game situation, it's amazing he kept his composure, and amazing he even went for it, as young as he was.
Is that some kind of a joke??? Goal of the century...my ass....he saw the Wimbledon goal keeper off his line and had a punt and it went it..fair play...nothing special in not very special circumstances. A routine start of season league game against wimbledon when Utd were already winning easily..WOW!!!
People are watching too much Sky Sports propaganda...you want to see a great lob..watch Nayim against Arsenal in the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup Final.
its great, because all the other goals like this are in obscure nations. this one happened in the premier league, against a world class goalkeeper

I agree, how could he miss that?? Beckham was lucky, that is all. Don't even try to compare to Diego Maradona, he is so much more skilled. Beckham is way behind.
princesatanguera 1 year ago
@generko ehh not really, the goal keeper has to advance off his line when the rest of his team move up the pitch so he's eventually near the edge of the box, this is for a number of reasons e.g; defenders passing the ball back so he's not dealing with a pass on his line which he might end up mis-kicking resulting in an own goal, defenders passing a slow ball back or a clumsy pass meaning he has to run out ahead of the attacker to clear the ball, and also to smother the ball on a counter attack

haha, goal of the century? fucking hell all he did is get a lucky shot after seeing the goal keeper was off his line.
Sebbz360 1 year ago
Becks = celebrity hype...he was bought and sold only for his ability to fill the stands, not his ability to lead a team. He was benched in the Euros during his prime for good reason and has never recovered talent wise sense. He married well and photographs "well" but his football skills aren't so

Wow, Beckham was only a kid and still went for it, it could have backfired big time, this guy was bread for confidence and a famous future ever since he was a pre-teen, and he handled it great thoughout his career. Awesome Becks!

juanballe07 1 year ago
@juanballe07 You mean the free kick and the crazy curve? Yeah, an awesome goal indeed, but it is from a set piece, there are other goals just like Carlos' but from a half volley or even a full volley, now that is crazy tough!

"Goal of the Century"..what a joke. A long punt from the half way line over the head of a Wimbledon keeper who was miles off his line is a rubn of the mill leaguee match...give me a break....I have seen this in Sunday league games.
partyguinness 1 year ago
@partyguinness well said. Because it is Beckham it is "the goal of the century". Same with his free-kicks. Lots of players score goals from free-kicks including Sunday league players. George Best once said of Beckham "He scores the odd-free kick, but he's one-footed, can't beat a man, can;t head the ball, he can't tackle" George was a brilliant player and brilliant judge of a player.
houghgree2 1 year ago
@houghgree2 Similarily, because it's Beckham, you automatically dismiss it. Both the crazy lunatic Becks fans and the haters fall into the same camp, sorry you appear to be a part of it. No, Becks is not a brilliant dribbler and certainly not a goal scorer, but his accuracy with the ball when he has control of it is second to none (not literally, of course there is always someone better). I can see how you can dislike him due to his fame, but it's just lame.
freethinker4liberty 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty I suggest you start doing some "freethinking" and look through all the media hype that surrounds Beckham-that's if you've got a brain to do that. The only thing that is lame is your attempts to potray me and those who can see through Beckham for what he is as being jealous of his fame. Am I jealous of George Best?Maradona? Wayne Rooney?and many great footballers-no I'm not. I've been watching football for years and I call it as I see it. And Beckham is all hype CONT.
houghgree2 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty His goal against Greece (it was his 8th free-kick of the game after which the Greece manager complained about all the free-kicks England were given) was his 5th goal in 46 games for England. Wow! that was some record! Not long after he became England's penalty-taker and naturally his pathetic goal-scoring was increased. However, he had to be removed from that role because he was missing too many. Remember the one that the so-called "dead-ball specialist" CONT.
houghgree2 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty ballooned into the stand?. You only have too look at his goal-scoring stats to debunk the myth of his reputation as being a "dead-ball specialist". It is not quite as easy to dismiss his reputation as being a great crosser of the ball-or as you put it his "accuarcy"-but is crossing is no better than his ability to take a free-kick. He can't beat a man, so he'll cross first time and when the odd one ends up in a goal being scored all his worshippers in the media go into CONT
houghgree2 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty overdrive. His reputation stands on his free-kicks and crossing of the ball and he is no better at either than "thousands of others" (this time I'm quoting Maradona not George Best). And he is no better at scoring from the half-way line when a goalie is out-of-postion than "thousands of others" either. I don't dislike him because of his fame-I don't particularly dislike him at all. I just don't rate him as a footballer for the same reasons that George Best did not rate him.
houghgree2 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty if I may just add one more thing to my four previous posts. I remember George Best in his heyday. In terms of media-hype Bestie was the Beckham of the 60s. He was football's first "pop-star". As a person he was terrible and far worse than Becks. On the field however, he more than justified the hype. He was a brilliant player. As I've said, I call it as I see it. I'm interested in the footballer not the person or the hype. As a footballer Beckham just does not rate.
houghgree2 1 year ago
@partyguinness Sure you have.. A young kid trying to make a name for himself tries this shot and you are hating just because he happened to become a famous playboy? Can't you just see through that and watch the clip for what it is. If you're old enough, do you remember what you thought of it when it happened?
freethinker4liberty 1 year ago
@freethinker4liberty Mate, I watched the 1986 World Cup so I was certainly old enough in 1996 to know my football...what did I think at the time? Cheeky effort that's it and that's all it was..I am not a Beckham hater..you think you know me!...I cldnt care less about him and his personal life. England cld do with him at this WC which is a fairly sad indictment on the current English players. Did you see Figueroa's goal against Stoke last year? That was a far better effort and goal.

@partyguinness Yeah, I'll have to agree with your assessment.

it wanst luck he actually went for it, great goal but he would probably miss 9 times out of 10, and there are better out there. he hit that from half way, there is pretty much identical goals from further back. think Alonso scored one possibly more for liverpool like that
adrian5987 1 year ago
