  • well atualy yes the chinese did invent black powder and at first it was used as a very bad missel barley ever hit the target but would set things aflame

  • good vid the gaul guy with the mowhawk was pretty hard core

  • Hey i used to do this with my friends! when i was seven...

  • What a lot of ignorance has been shown here about western martial arts. For a start it has little to do with re-enactment. So to compare what you see here with WMA is not to compare like with like. WMA is studied with the same dedication, discipline and study as EMA. The best exponents are rarely if ever to be seen on the re-enactment field.

This video is what it is, a bunch of folk having fun with their hobby. I hope one of these days to suit up in my harness and join in.

  • I have a much easier time respecting someone who re-enacts this stuff then I do someone who takes it seriously. western martial arts are boxing and wrestling, not dressing up and playing lord of the rings.

  • LOL do some research into WMA and see how far off the mark you are.

  • No response thunderdan? or are you still laboring under the misapprehension that Boxing and WWF Wrestling are martial arts?

  • lol is it just me or did any one else see the guy jump into the pile of people

  • looks like hardcore larping

  • medievil reanactmen? an theres a bird in a bikini at 305? my arse this group need to decied if they are reanactors or larp

  • Yeah, that be Terry 'The Terrible'- you tell her to sort it out though!

Tintagel is a total mishmash of 6-15 centuries- I wouldn't hold my breath for realism but good fighting yes...

  • it's regarded by re-enactors as their 'fun' show of the year...based on Mallory-style Arthur and Mordred hence lack of authenticity. You'll find the same re-enactors at top-end shows with equally top-end authentic kit. No, the bikini-girl isn't Terry, it's someone who I know and won't name here : )

  • 2:27 Scarecrow

  • Are you aloud to kill them ?

  • dude armour is expencive shit

  • I want to be there!

  • One of the best SCA fights I have ever seen.

Who are the big black knights?

None of these fights went the way I was expecting (I like the reverse throws/reaps).

  • Whats the song that starts at 0:44 ???

  • lol fucking hilarious.Looks kinda fun though

  • lol at 3:10 -> failed XD

  • was that directed towards me? I understand things like that happen and it's horrible.

  • Its true though war is happy until your crouched behind a rock with bullets flyin all around you, sweat blood ash and tears runnin down your face. There are men trying to kill you and they'll stop at nothing to do it. And when its over all that greets you are the fallen that lay dead or crying and screaming in pain. Trust me I know, war is fun for those who dont know its cost.

  • Whats that have to do with anything about this video?

War... for example in the Hundred years war actually was like a game to some people. One mans strength against another. To see which man was better, and who couldn't be beaten. Of course there were other variables. Why put down people who fantasize about that life. Who wouldn't want to be in a big fight with big swords and armor? Wouldn't every one want the satisfaction of beating the person?

  • Ok yah go join the military like I did thinking it would just be fun violence but its not, its horrible and terrifiying. You can say its just fun beating people but is it fun to see friends of yours dead! No it wouldnt so shove off because war isnt fun! Its not a game.

  • Well I'm sorry about the mistake you made. I wasn't planning to join the military because of that very reason. I don't want to be involved in ANY war. I do enjoy playing war games however... like airsoft, paintball, and video games. I'm not killing or seriously hurting people. I'm probably supporting the war in my own little way for supporting these games. They are fun and the reason for that is that my life ISN'T at risk, yet it is still thrilling. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience.

  • I think it was a mistake for me to but I know it's nessacary because I helped my country. I also like playin paintball with my friends. What was bad about my experience is that I was only 18!

  • Wow you guys got deep.

  • OK. Let's say you just joined the army and you're sent to Iraq. You make good friends with you're whole group. you're groups first job is to raid a house. You go in, and it turns out the terrorists knew you were coming. They blow you're friend's heads off, laugh about it, while they take you as a prisoner. Think about it, it happens more often than not when you're on the front lines.

  • i concure, while you are refering to im sure a war while in military, the one i had the luxury of being in was harford county when 2 rival gangs wanted it. 400 grown men beating the shit out of each other. it doesnt really click till you take a shower and your washing the blood out of your hair and a majority of it is not yours...

  • @OblivionCloser3 Nah... thats not what freaks people out about war... its the faces of the men you have killed and your freins that have died. Thats what fucks people.

  • When and were will this festival begin this year? Do they have a website with more information?

  • what was the song at 00:30?

  • Nine inch nails - Just like you imagined

  • war is delightfool for those who havent experienced it

  • indeed

  • a war is delightful for those who havent experienced it

  • wow...words of wisdom.....oh, wait! no their not they were copied off of call of duty 4. you are such a homo

  • Those quotes in CoD4 are quotes from real people in real life, meaning THEY'RE NOT ACTUALLY FROM CoD4

  • great video, I'm hoping to go this year, with the vikings of middle england. can't wait, it looks incredible! and the castle looks beautiful too.

  • Wow. Came across this totally by accident and spotted a few friends and (very briefly) myself! Always a nice surprise.

  • Great show ! :D Liked it very much... would love to be such a "knight" and fight with wodden or iron weapons .. marvolous! :)

  • and i thought SCA was crazy. do yall ever have any injuries?

  • that was grate it looked cool and guys its not a reel fight so just watch and shut up

  • I don't think oriental swordfighting was by any means more sophisticated or effective than European; it just happens that the mysterious and exciting foreign styles and weapons are more glorified in this age by popular culture.

  • the only way to see if what you think is true is for a duel with a European sword master against an eastern sword master...i think then you will think quite differently :|

  • @dualOne01 totally diff fighting styles for totaly diff modes of war. the two never really met so the point is mute.

  • the swords are not real there alunimun (spell check) there realy fun to use. i hert my eye so i cant type very well its hard to read now.

  • I see geeks. I feel for the reinactors that have to put up with the crazy people that are completely in love with an era they have never seen. They should sharpen those things and really try to kill each other! That would be kickass!!

  • U are dark

  • I hope these people don't call themselves reenactors. Sure, there may be some there, but a lot of fantasy too.

  • Camlann isn't a historical gig. It's a 're-enactment' of a fantastical battle: King Arthur's final showdown with Mordred. There are groups from a lot of different periods there, and mainly it's just good fun. I think there was even a Roman there in the year this video was taken, who quickly became a target for the Celtic groups.

  • is there something wrong with that?

  • Pretty cool stuff there

  • Anyone interested in this stuff just google reenactment then find your local group. If you live on the Isle of Wight then send me a message and we can start training you within a week!

  • Note Duncan- guy in red and black 1.50-1.58 Viking style wiping out that clanky!

  • Sorry too much text there- read in reverse order! Sorry- this is a big part of my life so I do feel rather strongly about it... and no I have nothing whatsoever against eastern martial arts.

  • As for swords- dark age swords were of great quality, medieval swords were (bizzarely)not as well made. All the same there are many wonderfully balanced and weighted blades out there but they are expensive! Interestingly everyone seems to think that martial arts camer from the east- sorry guys martial arts were developed everywhere- just in different styles.

  • Don't bother with plate armour fighting- as a hit wont necessarily damage you they let hits get through- find a couple of dark age or even 16 century onewards swordsmen for that.

In any case there are many fighters in that category in this footage- I've fought them and watched them fight others.

  • Theres some extremely good fighters in that footage- bear in mind they are craming 500 fighters onto a tiny battlefield. Also remember not everyone has been training as long or as hard as me- in eastern martial arts the best fighters aren't fighting the least experienced and never in groups of hundreds. To see how good they really are to compare to eastern martial arts then you need to see 2 warriors on their own in an arena.

  • I'm in this footage and class myself as a martial artist- I work out in the gym 3 times a week doing cardio and weights and fight at least twice a week using a wide variety of weapons including shield sword combination, sword, daggers, axes, long and short spear and knives. I run a training evening for reenactors interested in combat from 800-1800's and help train warriors in my dark age group.

  • god such stupidly european sword fighting. no finess to it at all. the martial arts of the east took discipline. this is just mindless swinging

  • all the discipline in the world won't protect you from the ferocity of a European warrior.

BTW: I studied German and British sword styles, they both take a lot of control and coordination to fight with

  • ahh but did you know british style was influenced by sauromae warriors

  • how on earth is that possible retard?

In the year 1200 Japan didn't have enough contact with Europe for that.

  • Lol, illiteracy for the loss!

By the way, the validity of your opinion is now worthless to all readers/commentors on this or any other historical recreation video.

  • dude, metallicaroc, you obviously have no idea what your talking about. i take kung fu, and yes, it takes enormous discipline, but so does ANY martial art. western, eastern, middle eastern, anything. it takes skill and coordination to fight with a western style, m friend is in italian longsword, so i have input from eastern and western. also, if youve ever swordfought, you would recognize that a shield kind of eliminates some of this "finesse". these are killing arts. no need to be pretty.

  • I've not taken any extreme martial arts, but I happen to know that European sword fighting takes skill. Every shot is carfully placed to, with any luck, cripple the enemy. If you want mindless swinging give 2 boy scouts sticks and tell them to have at each other. No offence to boy scouts, I am one, I speak from experience.

  • Fail!

Do you know that a lot of your eastern martial arts are about hiding in the shadows? The whole concept of 'ninjas' is eastern. That's a cowardice concept. Samurai wear gay armours. GIve me European plated knigths.

  • They wore lighter armor to offer greater maneuverability. Plate just slowed men down and the way it was fitted around the joints offered limited movement. And ninjas were a small sect that were used for assassination. If you knew your history you would know Europeans had the same thing. Plus Europeans were the inventors of guns. Talk about cowardice.

  • Europeans didn't invent firearms, They didn't even invent gun powder, all made by Chinese, and eventually came to Europe.

  • Correction, europeans made guns out of firing the gunpowder...

It is true, however that the Chinese invented it, but only for entertainment only, such as fireworks...

So europeans are the Christianity spewing cowards that destroyed honor on the battlefield and brought about the corrupt modern world.

  • Thanks for the correction pal.

I'd much have a good sword by my side than a firearm, but only in a zombie apocalypse, which I look forward to.

  • No actually Muslims invented guns and cannons not Europeans.

  • Chinese people invented the cannon. nice try muhammad

  • Stupid racist

  • chinese did not invent the cannon. they invented black powder and used it for fireworks instead of putting it to the more destructive use that europeans did. europeans took black powder to use in cannons. europeans invented cannons

  • lol, Chinese used powder as a weapon even before handcannons were made, they made rockets to shoot against the enemy, it worked to scare them and even to hurt them.

  • no chinese used it for solely fireworks and europeans that were on trade routes or some such thing found it and realized its properties and how it could be put to use. this is what caused the implementation of in european guns and cannons and such

  • guns are only the tools of the corrupted not the instruments of their creation

  • WRONG: while the chinese did invent gunpowder bombs that were slung by catapult or rocket the english adapted it to canon and musket

  • Well I read up some more.

But didn't the ottomans invent arquebusesm muskets, and cannons? I don't really know when cannons were invented but they used siege cannons to capture Constantinople.

  • The chinese may have been the first ones to start using it, but they didn't use it very well . . .

  • What war or battle will be your example?

  • very awsome i like such things

  • very nice video from festival :) 5/5 see my videos

  • lol, these guys have no idea what they are doing do they?

  • I think they do. I am in an..hmm.. knight group and we like it even if sometimes someone get little hurt. It's not as terrible as it seems to be.

  • I LOLD at the dude who jumped at 1:46

  • These guys don't really look like they know what they're doing

  • great!!!! must be the experience of a lifetime!!!! i would really like to take part in something this big... how can i take part in it??

  • first, at least a year of training. But this video would rather put me of. These guys really hardly know what they are doing.

  • that isnt really true. big guys in medaival fighting were much slower and used heavier weapons. no matter what size you were it really depended on skill. if you got a huge dude with a large axe and a small one with a long pike, guy with the pike is most likely to win. all matters were you were placed in rank and how many times you fought.

  • Hahaha, this makes me laugh. Listening to two newbs talk about who would win with what style and weapon. Idiots! You might as well be discussing what course a flower petal will take when its thrown into the wind. A fight is unpredictable. No singular thing determines a win.

  • u r wrong. i train european swor fight 3 years and i know. U must be quick like Asian but u must fight twice heaver sword. this is beautiful eur. sword fight style

  • i wanna do this, looks way more fun then the sca, dont get me wrong the sca looks fun as well, i just want to do something more real

  • thanks super... your super!

  • do this in the US i forgot to add

  • There are plenty of places man, just type medieval reenacting in the US on google.

    :)

  • theres the sca

  • where do i go to do this?

  • I WANNA DO ITTTTTTTT

someone tell me where to get or how i can make some of this stuff pelasseee

  • The road crosser video lol!!

  • nice vid man :)

  • lol

  • true.. true.. and people without arm protection :D

  • Wepaons and armors from all over the cenituries.. In one XD

Historically it sucks.. but it looks funny ;p

  • i noticed many people have pikes/pole armed weapons, where could i buy some of these from?ive had tyrouble looking for them for a while

  • Usually you just buy the spearhead, and you buy a long pole and combine the two to make a, what do ya know, a pole arm.

  • ya but i cant find any place that sells long poles

  • Amazing! I use to fight in the same way with my friends. But all equipment and weapons we do ourselves. We even make absolute real swords. But thqat guys are awesome. Respect :)

  • OMG!

1:46 guy jumping into the middle of the crowd. The best scene.

    Like someone write before me:

Nice fantasy fight with battle valkiria in bikini (xychr0 ;) )

  • Haha, at about 3:10 check out the geekslut wearing the chainmail bikini top in the middle of a battle.

  • oh my god... no footwork, no tactic in bohurt fights, fighting with weared shirt... so Poland really kicks ass, yea?

  • thats how peasants fought back in those times and got killed fast, unlike skilled warriors and knights.

  • Yeah... Peasants... This half-naked girl was peasant too? :D

  • Why does medieval swordfighting look so tactless? I mean, how close can you possibly stand next to each other? They'd be fucked if they went up against someone who had half-decent footwork.

  • i agree. they didn't seem very talented. even their sword movement were pretty weak.

  • Actually, some of the gear does look kind of viking.

  • what you mean viking... this is medeival. you idiot. the knight in armor is from 1400's. this is like from 900-1200(?)

  • Ach warum Schlachreihen geschlossen haltern? Wir wollens unseren Gegner ja bloß nciht schwer machen... oh man^^

  • Fighters without armour on battlefield are so annoying. They are attacking you like mad, and you cant hit them couse you would seriously hurt them

  • only if your not trained to pull your blows. if you can't you shouldn't be handling weapons. besides everyone wearing armour is totally inauthentic

  • it looks more like vikings not like medieval ... nbut its a good fight

  • nice shit man poast more!!

  • let's see i see

    late roman

    germanic

    viking

    medieval

    saxon

    late medieval

  • Watch at 1:56, the guy in black makes awesome move.

  • there i go.. splat :D

Just to reply to the other comments, Tintagel is enacting the 'legend' of king Arthur and doesn't intend to be historical. Reeneactors come from all around Europe to take part, and all proceeds go towards charity (Cornwall air ambulance).

Everyone has a good time, and is really where reenecatment meets larp.. :P tintagel-show. com for more info.

  • there i go.. splat :D

  • mix.....bad mix...

  • nah aint that good, with those 20 vs 20 it looks like crap

  • nice fantasy battle... searh for 'Wolin' if you want sg serious

  • so THATS what a medieval battle looks like!

  • check out 1:44 the guy in the armor bowls over 2 guys

  • Man this is soo poor... thye had nothing to do with medieval fighting

  • losers

    nice outfits but man lame

  • bet they could kick your ass.

  • There is not only a great deal of balance in European Swordsmanship, but it takes highly skilled individuals to fight well. Not all Iaido practitioners are expert fighters, even if they are supposedly expert in their craft.

BTW, European blades were actually light and well balanced, unlike most modern replicas. What you see these guys doing doesn't accurately represent true European Swordsmanship. European martial arts have been sophisticated since at least before Iaido was systematized.

  • For the record, I didn't make this comment to slander these dedicated individuals who performed in this video (nor to slander Iaido, a magnificent discipline). What they do looks like a lot of fun. My comment was made solely in defense of authentic western swordplay and other martial arts, which are evidenced to have been at least as well organized and effective as other Martial Arts found worldwide.

  • Well, it's quite obvious that these people aren't masters. You'd never see a girl in a mail Bikini on the battlefield.

  • That looks like so much fun.

  • cool =)

  • siemano kamikaziu ziom :) Obadaj filma pod moim nickiem - jest nieco fajowszy :)

  • I used to live in Bossiney nr tintagel back in 91/92 and they were doing the swordfights even back then. Good to see they are still doing it.

I live in london now LOL

  • OMG, does it have anything to do with reenacting? There is more "Xena-like people" on this movie than in the TV show under the same title. And the battle itself... very light one.

  • I quess it is not reenacting. Seeing them in norman helmets with plate gloves made my opinion

  • Are some of them using Huskarl fighting rules?

  • thas...coll....

  • haven't been on the scene for a few years - who ar ethe group in red n black? is it companions of the crow?

  • No, they are a German group that Fairly Large Roger brings over each year.

  • a few familiar faces there...

  • Pretty cool.

  • Earth rules ya mean heh. Great video. Oh my God its freaking cool!

  • Yeah, really great!

  • NICE! But Russians RULE ! ;-)

  • Great video. I'm with the Cork medieval reenactment group here in Ireland. Didn't make it to Tintagel myself but a number of our crowd went and had a good laugh.
