  • BMW M12/13 engine had her basic from 1961. At first the BMW 1600 came on the market, for BMW the surviving car! The engine was developed Alex von Falkenhausen,wolff,fieder and co.Theymade the blockt to strong, that this block don´t blew up until 1400 HP(stock 80 hp). Brabham had on quali about ca.1300 HP. What a stock block!! The engineers from BMW searched old blocks from junkieyard, but the best block had to have about 100.000 km and the peed on the block(real!!) Best turboengine in my eyes!

  • I'd fire him if he couldn't wear off the tire stickers any faster then that. Damn they must have some tought stickers, the right one lasted two laps and was still there. I don't know why they don't peel them off.

  • @joe744 Its actually 1985. And Imola 84 that you mentioned was the only time that Ayrton Senna had a DNQ next to his name in F1.

    actually Brabham with the BMW turbo in 1983 had more than 1400hp in qualifying trim and around 900hp in racetrim.

    BMW tested the F1 turbo engine, which was a 1,5 litre 4 cylinder based on the M10 roadcar engine which had been designed in 1961, in their dyno and that dyno only vent to 1400hp and the engine exceeded that. Of course they used 5,6 bars of boost for the turbo and used a octane booster that had been developed during WW2. Renault had trouble with high boost.

  • The Renault drived by Warwick was the Renault RE-60. It has a v-6 1500 cc Turbo engine with a maximun power of 1200 cv on qualify, 1000 cv on race.

    We can only imagin the abceleration and the max. speed of this cars...

    SAN MARINO GP with GILLES VILLENEUVE when he came into pit lane after being stolen from him . coming into pitlane it was described by the italians as race speed , so just imagine what it might of looked like. FOR THE # 27.

    The Brabham BMW of Nelson Piquet had over 1400hp for qualifying in 1983. Paul Rosche of BMW motorsport used a special octane booster to allow the engine to use 5,6 bars of boost. In fact the gearbox was ready to be scrapped after the qualifying session.

    Also the Honda V6 turbo in the 1987 Williams had 1200hp for qualifting too. Piquet did 352km/h at Monza with the wings using the Monaco set up for maximum downforce.

  • @McLarenMercedes Sorry, you are wrong. The Brabham BMW of Nelson Piquet on the 1983 season had 750 cv on qualify, up to 700 cv on race, and was the most powerful of all the cars. (Ferrari had 660 cv, Renault had 650)

    The most powerful f1 car ever builded was the 1986 Williams-BMW, with her longitudinaly L-4 double Turbo BMW capable of over 1400 cv on qualify, over 1200 on race...

    First of all Williams had a HONDA engine in 1986. They switched to Honda turbo power in late 1983, and won their first race with it in Dallas 1984.

    I read in Motorsport magazine that Paul Rosche and his team of engineers found this fuel additive which had been used in WW2 by the Germans. With it they could charge 5,6 bars of boost and they saw 1400hp from the BMW engine in qualifying trim in 1983 already.

    Gordon Murray said it too and he designed the Brabham car.

    Sorry, but Motorsport magazine, which has been around since 1924 and is very influental said Piquet, Rosche and Murray all saw 1400hp on the BMW dyno in 1983. That was around 900hp in racetrim.

    Why? - turbos cost too much, they are not nice to drive due to turbo lag and they sound like a loud cow instead of a proper screaming racing engine.

  • Oh sure! I've been lucky to see the 84, 85, 86 and 87 F1 Imola GP weekends (I am italian) with the ICI Chemical guest tickets, ICI was sponsoring the Williams Team at the time. I was seated at the Acque Minerali chicane. I am for sure one of those hundreds you can see seated on the tribunes in this video on the left when Warwick does the Acque Minerali chicane in :-)
