@Athexistentialist Also, about how you can ask Jesus anything and he will do it: during this part of John, Jesus is trying to show his disciples that he is God. So, he says this to reveal his relationship with God: only God could make this claim. But, since God is love, and Jesus is God, Jesus will do anything for us that is for our greatest good.
Regarding the issue of wealth, Jesus says in Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Jesus is saying that you don't have to be poor in reality to reach the kingdom of heaven, you only have to be poor in spirit. You have to have the attitude of a poor person and not make money your God. You can have money but you don't have to serve it. I think that is a more accurate interpretation of the verses about wealth that you mentioned.
@TheActualClarkKent So Jesus was being smart then. Manipulative, sure, but smart. The "poor" or the "poor in spirit" are, of course, the group he's going to go after. Who else would have as much to invest in religion/god/heaven than the "poor"/"poor of spirit"? That's right. No one would. He was a smart guy, though, that's for sure. Knew the downtrodden wouldn't be able to resist the concept of eternal love. So, Jesus used their moral faults to advance his own agenda.
I'd just like to point out that it certainly doesn't take a significant amount of money to go to the public library and get on a computer to watch this video.
@ShaundalynChic Valid point, but by accessing something like a library, with computer, books, etc., you've intentionally tapped into something that was created, by, money. Even by using a library, you're interacting with a level of wealth Jesus would never have been able to imagine. Money is a part of everything.
@Athexistentialist Not my money. Given the temple hadn't been destroyed in his lifetime, I doubt our cruddy public library is anything in comparison to that.
@ShaundalynChic Fine then. Do you drive a car to get to your library? If not, do you ride a bike? If not, do you walk? If you walk, do you wear shoes? No matter which way you spin it, your life, needs money to function. Thus, you /still/ are dismissing the word of god.
@Athexistentialist oooooook! If you believe the Biblical God exists, you also believe he created the riches of the earth, that he brought them into existence. Therefore they must coexist? Referencing back to the gospel you were interpreting, it continues on to read "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you." If you read the entire message being conveyed here, it seems Jesus point is that God must be first - above the riches of the earth.
@surfskisoccer I think you must have really missed my point here.
Well, I don't believe a god exists. That's why I keep introducing myself as "the athexistentialist"
Also, if you watch my video again, specifically at 4:40. You'll notice that I say that Jesus said god and money cannot be served at the same time. If you have wealth/money, you're dismissing Jesus' words. And yep, that is Jesus' point: God should be above the richest of the earth, above money.
@Athexistentialist But, if you're watching the video, you must have wealth to have the means to access the video. Do you see where I'm going here? To recap:
To watch the video, you have/are accessing wealth.
Jesus says you get to pick either wealth or god
You just picked wealth (as you watched the video)
Thus, you've dismissed Jesus' word.
And that, as the title says, is what this video is about.
Luke 4:12
English Standard Version (ESV) 12 And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
haha but seriously nothin wrong with this video minus the prayer thing but you know, besides that, nothin disagreeable

@TheActualClarkKent "only god could make this claim" huh?
There's two scenarios here:
A: Jesus was lying then. He just wanted to get the people to follow him, so he lied about having power of god.
B: Jesus and god are a part of the trinity, so he can make the claim.
Whoa! I argued two different ways in response.
Just goes to show how flimsy the Bible is. Just pick one side of a contradiction and run with it. Then you can prove anything you fancy.

@spasmaticness045 But the public library itself, and institution which your tax dollars support, takes money to run. So the point is the same.

you have lost me. What was the point you were aiming to convey with this video?
surfskisoccer 1 month ago
@surfskisoccer The point I conveyed was:
1: To watch this video, you must have money.
2: Jesus says you can't have both money and god together
3: By watching this video, with your money, you are dismissing the words of Jesus, and displeased God.
Maybe you should watch it again?
