PSU has an AACSB accreditation and that's why it is a good school. No party scene? There are bars and live music walking distance from school. Everything is walking distance from school. There is more industry in Portland than Eugene and Corvallis put together and many more job opportunities after graduation. Most students that went to U of O and OSU who stay in Oregon after graduation move to Portland to find work anyways. Dont live in fantasy land. It's the best school around, obviously.
Hey I just got accepted to PSU, but am from MN so touring isn't an option especially since I'm already a full time student at the University here. I've heard a lot of surprisingly negative things about it, and was wondering if anyone could give me any information about the school? It has a bad reputation from what I've heard, but I maybe I'm just getting that info from bias sources. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
@cashyaug I'm from Minnesota and go to U of O. From what I've heard about PSU it doesn't have a party scene. A lot of people go there to try and get their degree after leaving college. My friends who are native Portlanders think it is too close to home for them. I was seriously considering it for a while but decided on U of O because of my major. But to me, if I couldn't have attended U of O, I would have gone to PSU just because it is worth it just to be in Oregon.
Hey all you Vikings Fans!! Why don't we support our school by showing up to school events more often! Do you know how crazy the games would be if at least half the people that attend the school went? I live 40 minutes away from PSU and I still made it to a few basktetball/football games. We need to start something amazing!! Portland is a great city which is why we should promote PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY!!

im also a sophmore right now,and my major is internation business.can you tell me some more details about PSU? my email is miaoyinan@yahoo.cn thanks a lot!
@miaoyinan I am a sophmore there, and a freshman in the architecture departmnet, I love it. It is a large school in some respects and it is easy to get lost, but if you are responsible for planning your semesters out correctly, you will do fine. Also some programs are better than others from what I hear, But i think that is the same everywhere. It may not be MIT or Princenton but I am happy with my education at this point. What is your major if you dont mind me asking?
@503mindst i am also a sophmore, and my major is international business. can you tell me some more detals about PSU? my email is miaoyinan@yahoo.cn. it is also my msn and yahoo messenger. thanks a lot!
If you are passionate about learning and soaking up everything professors have to offer then PSU or Harvard you will walk away with what you came for. PSU is a great school and I'm proud of having passed the classes of many difficult instructors.
PSU is a solid school with great programs. The Urban Studies program is ranked one of the top 3 in the United States and people from all over visit it. They have a very strong business program, engineering program, decent economics program and music program. No huge sports life there but the connection to the downtown and community gives alot of prep for people. I have friends that are ivy league and also at other schools that have degrees from PSU as well. Yes I did attend PSU sometime ago!
Well PSU accepts way too many people who apply, just about anyone can go there. A person can feel proud when they get accepted to a university where a good percentage of people don't get accepted but not at PSU, if anyone applies to PSU they will probably get accepted, anyone can get in. If you take and compare all the universities in Oregon, PSU has to be considered the worst one.
@bound4glory24 haha BYEEE your completely wrong. Thats why its NATIONALLY ranked right? right! This is your opinion and i bet you didnt even go to the school to be puttin it out there like that. Stop being so negative. If ppl want to go here then let them.
"More students choose us than any other university in Oregon" This also means PSU accepts more students than any other university in Oregon and that is not a good sign of a good university. PSU has too many students to be considered a top university.
@bound4glory24 UC Berkeley, one of the best schools on the West coast has over 25,000 students attending. PSU only has 20,000. Enrollment has little to do with how good a school is, and although I'll admit is isn't a West coast Ivy, I think it deserves a tad bit more credit than you give it
@MarkHarwood I saw no fine art produced as well. I didn't even see the giant ART building. Plus the Oregon climate is such that sitting outside only happens about 6 weeks of the school year (summer session excluded.)
Hey sbaaaaal i think you were the dorm neighbor that brought someone new over but they chewed your a** out cuz you didn't know how to respect them and so you never got anything.
Try and try again... get the f out of my country.

I got my Bachelor's in Business from PSU, and I'm trying for a Master's now.. PSU is pretty cool, Right in the business district of Portland, lots to do, very bike and public transportation friendly. The only thing I'd change is make more parking available on campus. But I always find a spot, it just takes a while sometimes.
@epa316 Why would you ever go to PSU for business when you have a nationally recognized business program two hours south? I'm not saying PSU is altogether bad, but University of Oregon has a WAY better program for business. Although, I do prefer Portland to Eugene.
@wonderwall339 Well I guess I'll just pull out a lighter and torch my PSU Bachelor's since it's worthless and go do it all over again at U of O? Would that make you happy? Oh and FYI you could have a degree from harvard, wouldn't really matter for 2 reasons: 1) employers really want to see experience, not degrees, and 2) it's a crappy job market right now. Don't knock a school you have probably never even been to? Besides PDX to Eugene would be a hell of a commute. I live & work in the PDX area.
@lordofdogtownign Why would you call me an idiot? What did I ever do to you? Go troll someone else, you wrinkled old fag! And how do YOU know a degree from harvard is invaluable? Do you have one? A degree says you sat in a classroom and listened to professors spout theory for several years. Employers will say that's great, what EXPERIENCE do you have? None? NEXT....
My girl friend goes there and this video was made really well. Has any of you found any videos on youtube about the preacher who was there at PSU on the park blocks who had that large red banner ? Dose any one have a vidoe of that on youtube ??
Wow, that's like a little trailer of a movie that I will soon live in! Transferring from OIT to PSU...civil engineering major, architecture minor...yeah!
PSU looks like an institution that's difficult to navigate through. It also looks like parking is hard to find. I went to The University of North Carolina and I'm considering going to PSU for my Master's degree. I'm originally from Albany, OR. I'll have to visit the campus with some sort or representative to help with my decision making process.
A lot of people actually. Most people would much rather go to a university that has a wide variety of different cultures and races. For example: an african american would much rather go to a university that is like Portland State than a university that is all white. And that is by choice.
Also, as a PSU student myself I personally like the culture and the feel at PSU which makes classes there much more enjoyable, you should come see for yourself sometime.
PSU offers a program called "Equality for Families", it offers a chance for low income RESIDENT students a chance at college for almost half, and in RARE cases, no cost to them for two years. Now in order for them to apply, one must be registered for financial aid, and apply as a low income student.(Their parents must also be considered low income for this to work)
While you are correct that MOST students are considered middle class, 99% is an overestimate. The average would be about 65% middle class, 20% Higher Class(wealthy), and 15% Low Income(This is for Oregon Universitys and Colleges)
