This swimmer should not be demonstrating. By the way ..... It's tumble turn in Australia as well. Since the Australian, Dawn Fraser , (4 time Olympian, holder of many world records and gold medals) developed the turn back in the 60s I'm happy to use the name she gave it.
We can't have the Americans renaming everything for the hell of it.
@donster660 This was not posted as a demo. It came from a stroke analysis clinic and I posted it up for comments from another coach I know. Thanks for your thoughts though.
I agree with josjcocacola ....I mean he can swim can't he? He can tumble turn can't he? Some people can't even swim in the first place! Yes....Maybe he can improve afew things about his stroke but so can everyone! So don't put someone down just because they're not perfect at the stroke, because no ones perfect!
You are a bit 'wobbly' when swimming freestyle. Need to keep yourself a bit 'straighter' through the body/hips/water. I used to do the same thing as a kid but to only one side (maybe as I rarely breathed bi-laterally and it's something I still watch for..) You have a very nice arm action though. I'm sure you can tumble turn better than though me mate!
The constructive criticism of this site is fantastic.
For sure I'm not a competitive swimmer - I started swimming as an adult and want to be as good as I can - fortunately I get regular feedback from coaches that my technique is in fact good.
my god hes a horrible swimmer. hes not even using his legs. his body is wobbling to much. and it doesnt seem like hes pulling through correctly either.
That's interesting, would you mind explaining a little more. My understanding of my 'wobble' is that it's proper rotation and with my legs, I guess I'm a little lazy but am a triathlete! So long as there not causing drag I'm happy. What's wrong with the catch and pull? Is it more obvious in my other videos?
Perhaps "zwinkie" might like to post a video and show us how it is done - then we can all offer our "expert" comments. Thanks Mike for posting - it has given me a few ideas as I normally drown doing tumble turns.
I keep missing the technique of the tumble turn as i am too busy checking out your ass!

u have pretty good form on ur upperbody, try to start kicking more with ur lower body.
on ur turn try to flip a little faster by keeping ur knees together. other than that ur looking pretty good

not bad, you should try not to slow down when you reach the wall, and try to use butterfly legs when underwater

That bloke needs to work on the terrible 'roll' in his stroke before worrying about turns..
mrnivri 3 years ago
Excessive roll or too little?

You don't sound like an asshole but I think that a flipturn is an Americanism, here in the UK we tumble (or in my case try to!)
mikespike80 3 years ago
