  • Crazy how after 3 years, people are still replying to me

  • liquify

  • nice

  • Salt(Na)+water(H2O)and to be burned.

  • @bomb1234able What da? Sodium isnt a salt.. You mean NaCl..

  • =NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide)

  • we did this in our science lesson at 7th grade

  • does it have a smell? :/ just curious.

  • So, why don't we use sodium to power cars instead of burning gasoline? The oceans are full of sodium.

  • I heard that if you put too much chlorine in a swimming pool, people's hair will turn green - is this true? :/

  • @magicalkitten1 Yes, if you are putting in large amounts of chlorine. You would feel it burning your skin as soon as you spend 15 seconds in there. There are no safe levels of chlorine. Bromine is worse.

  • a fart?

  • thats potassium mun

  • how the hack that is like that dude!

  • the thumb nail looked soooooo much cooler that the video lol

  • rule number one in chemistry if you see a fire in the lab....don't use water to put it out.

  • alkali metals + water = base

  • @whydid666 wen u see a fire u lite ur fart on fire

  • YAY! I LIKE EXPLOSIONS.

  • 2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) ----> 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g) THT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUTION (I LOVE SCIENCE)

  • It's also funny with natriumchloride and water

this is what you get then:

    2 Na + 2 H2O -> 2 NaOH + 1 H2

  • pure sodium + water = spotanius combustion...thats what scientist say what happens ...I only know that cause of my friends brother loves chemistry

  • sodium+water=fun

  • Sodium+Water= SCIENCE!

  • DUH!!!! Gosh, i in like 1st grade okay!! DUH!!

  • sodium comes bye itself retard you combine it with chlorine.

duh im in Freaking 8th grade and I know that

  • a 3rd grader would know that

  • im in 7th grade and i knew that...whos the retard now?

  • I think to separate the sodium from the chlorine you have to electrodize it or something.

  • Yes, but you need electrode from Mercury (Hg), with typical Pt-electrode in water solution of NaCl you will get hydrogen (H2) on cathode and chlorine (Cl2) on anode. Sodium will remain in water-solution as hydroxide (NaOH) and can formate NaClO and NaClO3 with NaOH.

There is also possibility to do electrolysis of melted NaCl, but could be difficut to melt NaCl. It seems to be to so simple to made your own sodium at home... (excuse my English, pls)

  • its lithium

  • where can i get the sodium

  • lol you can't get it unless you have a license to, and even then you have to buy it and it's not cheap...

  • Comment removed

  • actually it's Solduim Chloride (NaCl) that create salt this is sodium and water.

  • If you had READ my last post, you would have seen that I was continuing from my speech.

    God, learn to read.

  • I saw it shortly after posting my comment.

  • Okay, sorry.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 That would be sodium choride noob :L

  • Oh you already put that :P

  • @uzumakinaruto246 you moron - sodium + water does not make edible salt, it makes sodium hydroxide which would burn your intestines

  • @letaplamayhs Hmm 1st off this was 4 years ago, and

2 I know it's chlorine not water I intended to say.

  • Salt ( Sodium Chloride ) is ironically made up of two extremely dangerous substances. Sodium, A pure substance, actually sets fire on any contact with water. that means all you have to do is touch sodium with your bare fingers to set your hand on fire. Unfortunately, you cant put it out until its done. Chlorine, another pure substance, is a gas that was used in WWII as what they called "the mustard gas bomb". Mustard gas, as soon as it was breathed into your lungs, they liquidate your lungs. lol

  • @uzumakinaruto246 That's how michael jackson died... true story.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 dam i cant wait till chemistry class :)

  • @uzumakinaruto246 keep in mind that 50 gram of of salt would make you ill.

  • @uzumakinaruto246

I thought Mustard gas WASN'T used in WW2? I thought it was deemed pointless to use such gases because a lot of people in britain wore gas masks. I'm not sure about the countries outside britain

Mustard gas was used in WW1 though

  • @uzumakinaruto246 That is most definitely not true. Sodium does not ignite upon contact with your fingers, as you're skin does not harbor enough water on its surface to cause an Na + H2O reaction powerful enough to ignite the hydrogen gas produced. Though, small amounts of NaOH can be produced which can cause slightly painful corrosion to your skin. I know this from my own experience.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 No.. sodium will not react instantly with the moisture of your hand, there is not enough moisture. And there was a little more to mustard gas than just Chlorine...

  • @RayWillJohnson Thank you for pointing that out, I've been reminded several times on youtube about the error in my comment. But really, thank you for taking the time to comment on a two year old statement I made.

Also, nice avatar and name. Where did you get it? Looks FAMILIAR.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 No problem mate, happy to correct you.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 Infact, your so wrong on so many levels that its ridiculous you would get thumbed up, clearly everyone here is an idiot.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 Yet a little salt is vital for life. Funny old world innit.

  • @EpiphoneArchtopLover Because sodium chloride is completely different from pure sodium and pure chloride.

    Other examples:

H20 (Water) - Required for life.

H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) - Extremely toxic if swallowed.

CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) - Exhaled from most living things and relatively safe to inhale.

CO (Carbon Monoxide) - Kills most living things if inhaled.

  • @StainedShuriken333 I know, I'm a Chemistry Major.

  • @EpiphoneArchtopLover Oh, my bad. My clairvoyance is obviously not up to par as I should have known that just by merely interacting with you over the internet.

    -_-

  • @StainedShuriken333 Epic, I've always wanted to meet a psychic.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 Mustard gas was sulphur based, not pure chlorine. and it didn't "liquidate your lungs" It dissolved, or diffused into the water inside your lungs creating an acid which burned and severely damaged the lung.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 Yes, but that is the beauty of chemistry. No matter how dangerous a substance can be in one instant, if it is changed in some subtle way, an ionization, for example, the properties change dramatically. Table Salt is one example, another is left and right handed proteins, shifting in configuration causes vastly different functionalities.

  • @uzumakinaruto246 Don`t think that deserved a ``lol``

  • it sets on fire?

  • Sodium as in salt?

  • no thats sodium floride you need complete sodium

  • Salt is sodium chloride (and not sodium fluoride). Pure sodium is required for this experiment :)

  • You need to respond to Edward!!

  • pause at 4

  • very pretty (said like Johnny Depp when he's drunk/playing Jack Sparrow)

And 0pyders, look at the title.

  • Dude nice i want to make some of dat

  • how did you do that/?

  • If you put sodium in water it will catch fire

  • and if you touch sodium, kaboom, we are 80 % water. This could be the world's next A bomb, drop a 100 pound block into a lake, kaboom, next world war.

  • you right..

a little bit of this and that and

    BOOOM.. the world is gone

  • nah, this thing isnt nearly as powerful as an a-bomb.
