Does it really matter where they hold the bow? The purpose of the violin is not to have the most standard, robotic strategy; it is to make music. I've been playing violin for eight years, and I can't play nearly as beautifully as these women. If it works better for them to hold the bow a bit higher (where they probably have much more control), I don't believe we have any right to assume we know better.
@xilent234, i play the violin, and that is not how you hold it. there fingers might be in the right formation but they are holding it to high in the bow.....
@TheViolingirl98 If you play you should know that it doesn't matter where you hold the bow. I've seen traditional fiddlers and classical violinist hold the bow well above the frog.
@IntoTheMystical, i would just like to say that i am only 13 and i am still learning how to play. i was just trying to help. btw thanks for telling me that you have now really help me! :-)
@TheViolingirl98 That's wonderful! Don't worry, even the talented ladies in the video had to start somewhere. Stay with your music and learn all you can, you will never be sorry.
There are a lot of "violin tutorials" on youtube that you might find handy.
these two are the women that made me want to play the violin..i'm currently practicing for the all ireland under 18 fiddle competition :) kudos ladies for making a 5 year old fall in love with the violin and making me want to stick to it and be just like you.

It's traditional Irish fiddle music.
The first tune is called Calliope House, unfortunately I don't know what the second tune is.
