I honestly think to play anything less then virtuoso classical pieces on a grand piano is a misuse of the piano. Jazz just doesn't sound much better on a grand then on a lower quality piano.
My god this sounds horrible. I played a 6 figure concert grand in a concert hall a couple times. Sounds so much better. You should ask if they have a concert hall to go with the piano.
Which song was that dude ??? That was magnificent, don't tell u're not a piano player, that was a very hard jazz composition you were playing, congrats ... cap down ;;;;;;;
had to listen twice, does the piano make you sound good, or you make the piano sound good, maby the question will never be answered. why do i feel they will use this for advertisement someday, you lucky sonofagun.
I have a Chickering, It's what I learned piano on, it was my mothers. The keys barely come back up and mice have gotten to the hammers and strings. We've taken extremely good care of it and have tried everything to fix it over the years but yesterday it died...for good. We can't afford to fix it again and they don't make most of the parts anymore. I'm going to miss that thing like crazy. </3 I just ordered a Williams Allegro 88-key digital piano, it should be here any day now. :(
Whats the matter? Just because it's a grand and its worth 150,000 dollars means that not everyone can play on it? Jeeezzz. Trolls everywhere. If I had the chance to play on one why not? its the memories that count.
i can respect an average player playing on a nice piano, but quit fuckin with footprints. Jesus, no one needs blues scales on a nice song like that. quit adding those little halfstep grace notes to the beautiful melody and take your foot off of the damn pedal.
Wow, so an average player has no right to play on this piano?
This guy wanted to have fun playing an instrument he'll probably never be able to afford. Honestly, I'm at an average level, but if I happened to have a chance to play on a steinway, I'd gladly take it.
What should he have said?
"Oh no, I won't try this piano, it'd be disrespectful."?
It's just a bunch of wood, metal and strings a very well made one, at that, but still something a mere mortal can touch.
I do hate hearing a beautiful instrument handled poorly. There are other instruments which would give this student a desired effect. Instruments of this caliber call for a different level of expertise. It's a bit like a beginner playing a Stradivarius. Why? Why would a child need to play with a real hammer? Give him a toy one.
@thekkl Is there an advantage in a child's learning to play on a Stradivarius? Perhaps so. Yet under strict guidance, wouldn't you think? Perhaps someone with millions to burn mind not mind someone treating the Strad like a toy. Perhaps I just think like the poor man I am. I'd hate to see the instrument handled without guidance. Have I missed your humor? I have not heard a Strad...live. You're right. I haven't quite gotten your point. Perhaps the humor's a bit high brow.
Haha, no no... you inherit them or earn them. You aren't expected to actually buy one.
Also, Chickering is a very old, but VERY coveted brand that is no longer manufactured since I believe 1983. (You may find them at piano outlets or antique shops). They far exceed Steinway's nicest concert grands. They're very stiff to press which makes them good trainers, but the sound is 110% more beautiful than Baldwins or Steinways. They could never replicate the cabinet/chamber resonance.
BY FAR, THE GREATEST AMERICAN PIANO COMPOSER OF ALL TIME WAS "LOUIS MOREAU GOTTSCHALK" - IF YOU OR ANYONE ELSE DOESN'T KNOW WHO HE IS, YOU SHOULD FIND OUT - AND YOU WILL THANK ME PROFUSELY - IF YOU ARE A PIANIST, AND ESPECIALLY AN AMERICAN PIANIST, AND DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF - ANYWAYS, HE USE TO PLAY A CHICKERING - BEFORE THERE WAS STEINWAY PIANOS - OR AT LEAST RIGHT AROUND THE MID 1800's - AROUND THE TIME THAT STEINWAY WAS JUST STARTING OUT.
Is it common to see people play in music shops for maybe like an hour? In Manchester I finally found a piani which wasn't digital or sold but without a stool and played Fur Elise for a bit and the guy just copied me and played it... wrong. Funilly enough, another guy was upstairs rocking on the guitar...
There's actually a bed and breakfast place I know of near my house that has an original Steinway piano. Not Steinway & Sons, just Steinway. Apparently it's worth over 3 million dollars. It's just really cool to me to know about an ORIGINAL Steinway.
oh come on guys, give him a break! i for one think this is great. it probably just sounds weird 'cause the vidio camera quality isnt that good. plus, it looks like he was playin it from memory, and he only got a few parts wrong. not everyone can be a perfect piano player!!! but to the dude playin: keep on learnin, 'cause ur ok.
@rehd17 I'm sorry, I dont have the same interests as you do. So, why don't you just go shut up, and continue with your sick, poor, musically deprived life, yes? :)

So, if I were you, I would stop commenting on videos because you like the attention such as an attention deprived puppy. Please take your childishness elsewhere. Thank you, and have a nice day. :)
@rehd17 Oh no! I was insulted! I may NEVER recover from that one! It's only yet ANOTHER "fucking your mother" joke! And by the way, I have to die BEFORE I go to hell, because if you're in hell, you cant die again! You have no logic either. You must be mentally challenged, so I'm not responding to your retardation any longer. Have a good life dip-shit!
could you actually learn how to play the piano? Just take your foot off the pedal once in a while, unless you want to be owing them $150,000 when you've broken it! Take my advice, stick to moving them and not playing them.
$150,000 piano and a $10 camcorder. Would you like to know what this video sounds like? LOL Happens all the time on youtube. People should look at the weakest link in the recording process. This is worse than a Casio electronic tin sounding $100 keyboard because of the recording quality.
DAMN YOU MUSICAL ELITISTS! let the boy play! i'm sure he's very sorry he didn't devote the last 15 years of his life to playing the piano. I'm sure he'd apologize for enjoying himself, doing something he enjoys.
@bilbring don't be a fucking racist, the tone that yamaha makes are too bright and direct, european pianos sound much better. They may be favorite by pro JAZZ players, but not classical.
"The Yamaha S4 (old S400), the S6, and the Kawai RX-A are pianos in a class by themselves. There is a big quality (and also price) leap up to these instruments, which are currently in the $50,000. price category. This is also the point where artists usually cease to find anything to complain about "Asian" pianos. These pianos are often compared with other pricey pianos such as the Hamburg Steinway, or some of the other exotic German grands."
"An indirect piano sound"... Well that's a f*cking statement. I can't wait to go tomorrow in the piano shop to tell them they can stuff their indirect pianos in their asses and bring up the good stuff, the direct ones.
@lhrmeonom Also, it's you types who are the racsit nazis. The main reason steinway nazis denigrate Yamaha pianos is because they're Japanese. Yamaha has been making pianos for more than a century, what does it take for the hitlers to acknowledge them? Pros already do.
I call BS on not being a piano player. Yeah, he was making some mistakes, but he knew enough to form basic cords. You were a piano player at one point.

@MrXAVIERDB Schools, concert venues, places of worship, other public venues. Most of the concert grands out there aren't privately owned. The people who have room in their house for a concert grand probably aren't too worried about the cost of it or the economy. I'd prefer something other than a Yamaha too btw.
The price just reflects the cost of the materials and the time taken to hand craft every part and build it so that every tiny piece works in perfect harmony. There's a lot more to a really high end grand than you think and they can take nearly a year to build
yamaha grand: $150,000 , USA sweater $15, making a fool of oneself not only in a very respectable shop but then to the whole world via you tube: priceless
switch the pedal more then it would of sound better and at your height you're sitting to close to the piano back up a little so you have more control over the piano, keep your back straight up so give a good impression while playing a song, do this and it would be a lot better! ;)
I find it hard to believe you can play that type of Jazz improv on your right hand, with no piano playing experience. Yeah, you hit some off notes, but it still sounds good. Good enough to convince me you have been playing piano for a while.
You mean 150,000,000 $?

The guy did say he wasn't a piano player. Of course, none of the music critics in the cheap seats read that part. LOL

if you look at the price tag, it says 147,895.00 he just put a period instead of a comma in the number

@MrXAVIERDB Schools, concert venues, places of worship, other public venues. Most of the concert grands out there aren't privately owned. The people who have room in their house for a concert grand probably aren't too worried about the cost of it or the economy. I'd prefer something other than a Yamaha too btw.

for such an expensive piano the tone is terrible.... either that or it's his playing

You should hear how terrible he sounds on a spinet ;)

@MrXAVIERDB
The price just reflects the cost of the materials and the time taken to hand craft every part and build it so that every tiny piece works in perfect harmony. There's a lot more to a really high end grand than you think and they can take nearly a year to build
Jonboyutube 1 year ago
I'm surprised the store let him play it. At that price it wouldn't usually be free access!
Jonboyutube 1 year ago
@MrXAVIERDB Don't forget you have to tune it pretty often also. :P

OMG, I just realized there's another idiot standing there taking his picture. I wonder if he is wearing a bitchin' fagorooney gold bracelet as well?

I heard a guy jackhammering the sidewalk that sounded just like this.
He had a hat on, instead of a cool USA polyester shirt.

yamaha grand: $150,000 , USA sweater $15, making a fool of oneself not only in a very respectable shop but then to the whole world via you tube: priceless
Henry1993bc 1 year ago 5
this is why i will never go into a piano shop :)
DarkShroom 1 year ago
If you like the piano that much, why not learn to play? It was like putting a cat on the keys.....now my ears are bleeding
Rachmanfan4life 1 year ago
switch the pedal more then it would of sound better and at your height you're sitting to close to the piano back up a little so you have more control over the piano, keep your back straight up so give a good impression while playing a song, do this and it would be a lot better! ;)

I find it hard to believe you can play that type of Jazz improv on your right hand, with no piano playing experience. Yeah, you hit some off notes, but it still sounds good. Good enough to convince me you have been playing piano for a while.
