That's frusciante's way of playing barre chirds, he says it gives him more 'freedom' to play. To get the same sound as a normal barre chord, start with the barre chord. Then take your index finger off and play the B string with it, same fret as it was covering before, then play the root note (low E string) with your thumb. :) message me if you don't get it =, it's quite hard to explain. I'll find you a video if you want?
