  • Theres just no future in portable computers. Who in their right mind would want to take their work with them? I mean, its not like you get overtime for that.

  • hahahhahahaha!!!!....

  • It's so heavy no one could tell you to take it home with you, isnt that true

I remember my first Pc Back in 88 i owned IBM of at least 50pounds my father used to tell me Dont play near the computer if it falls over it's heavier than yoh

  • Actually, it's more like the PC industrial revolution. This is when things really started to get "amazing". I mean, and entire computer that can fit on your kitchen table? Incredable!

  • @Ratticis True, the First Computers were So Massive they took up a Whole Building!

(& needed Miles [literally] of "Computer Paper" ; )

With the 1980's Compac we had Impulse Power, now we have Warp Drive.

  • i was gonna buy a mac book air, but then i saw the VERY NICE BOX, so i bought this instead.

  • See, why do we only get commercials this amazing around the time of the superbowl these days? This is genius; all commercials lately are nothing but stupid, and filled with awful actors.

  • hahaha this was funny looool

isnt this guy Q fo 007?

  • Cheeky young wipper snappers lmao, My first computer was an abacus ;P

Or more commonly known as Commodore VIC20 ;)

  • Portable computer / carry on luggage

  • I had my eyes on an Amiga, never got it....

  • It comes in a very nice box!

  • now I have to get it, cause he said it has a very nice box....

  • MISTAKKKKHUH!

  • Portable! lol It's a desktop computer with a handle stuck on it.

  • I missed these commercials when they first came out. I watched very little TV in the '80's

  • This commercial is so wrong, it's actually very right!

  • amazing how when i went on youtube, i saw a monty python vid and clicked it. then i realized i watched over 100 vids of the same thing and "wasted" two hours of my day.

  • they could write and print and when you were finished you ran outdoors to play in the sun, can't remember the last time I used a whole day away from the screen...sad! good commercial for a product which saved you time not robbing it! now shut down your pc and go for a walk, read a book or play with your children in "real life" before they become second life...

  • it comes in a very nice box... where's the box?

  • @stockmarket101 I'd say it's the case itself, lol

  • done

  • Cleese is legend. LOL

Commercials used to be so much cooler. Now they are condescending and so pack with effects that they are boring.

  • Look its portable it has a handle it on......LOL

  • They come in a very nice Box ^^

  • this reminds me of the bomb in starship titanic

  • @abrelosojo Holy goodness, I've never seen anyone reference that game in all the years since I first got it. You my friend win everything!

  • I wonder if these adverts actually worked? Did people buy these things because of the ads????

  • @rerevisionist

(re. "I wonder if these adverts actually worked? Did people buy these things because of the ads????)

Absolutely! These (John Cleese) commercials put them on the map. They soon became the fastest company to make a billion dollars in revenue, in US History.

Decent Product + Great Commercials = Major Success.

  • @you2449 - ah OK, thanks for the info. Wasn't Campaq the company that made PCs 'ruggedised' - their salesmen would 'accidentally' topple them off the desk onto the floor to show they could take it?

  • VERY NICE BOX.

  • size of it ! its bigger than a Mondeo...!

  • size of it ! its bigger than a Mondeo...!

  • THey are funny commercials. It shows how does days were so different.

  • Actually a very cleve and effective ad for the portable, but would seem to undercut the sales of the Deskpro.

  • The best MF commercial I ever saw.. :)

  • Thats so apple...

  • I used to repair the monitors seen in this add .

  • "It comes in a very nice box"

  • damsf

  • "Well, I made a mastake-ka!"

  • it's kuh

  • all those old computers made around 1985 looked the same like the ibm pc

  • wow, you wasted 10 seconds of your life typing that?

  • I think it was supposed to be a reply of some kind... to someone. well who cares anyway. ;D

  • good point.. as you say, who cares ;)

  • Sad Thing Is, it probably took him days to come up with.

  • Its impossible that the internet was invented during WW2, Al Gore wasn't even alive back then, DUMBASS

  • No, they used radio and the telegraph instead. You could say that these were the parents of the internet. As someone already said, things evolve from other things.

  • How the hell did he manage to kick that thing off? You'd need a bloody forklift to carry it.

  • it's called an EMPTY SHELL. they probibly had a shell of a compaq portable up on there so he could just kick the thing off.

  • empty

  • Yeah, I used to have one of those Compaq portable PCs... As big as a suitcase, very small green monochrome screen, 286. I used to play Zyll and Executive Suite and program .bat files on that sucker in XTreePro. That thing was heavy as hell; probably 30 awkwardly balanced pounds.

  • John is chuck norris's father

  • sounds like fun but do you know what they all mean :)

  • THAT was what they considered portable. Jesus christ, it's like the computer stone age.

  • yes but everything has to start somewhere, and move on steady from there. you cant expect all this high speed broadband and big gig hardrives out of thin air can you.,

what were these computers actually for

  • @BunnaySango Those were the times, that was the technology. That was portable in comparison to what existed at that point. How is that strange?

  • @stakleni00 Don't mind the arrogance of youth. We were ALL judgmental about what came before us when we were young. :)

  • @BunnaySango By that time portable meant that you could move it around in a truck.

  • @BunnaySango - It WAS the computer stone age. I didn't even have a home PC until 1995! Still, better late thabn never.

  • @BunnaySango They used the stones to prevent people from stealing

  • @BunnaySango its called " portalble" because you can hold in a few seconds in your hads (before you break your back) and you dont have to borow a lorry to transport it somewhere

  • @BunnaySango well keep in mind this was in the late 80s

  • @BunnaySango It IS the PC stone age

  • @BunnaySango Neolithic actually. When they got lighter, they became know as luggables.

  • Imagine kicking the deskpro!

  • LMAO! I used to have one of those behemoth "Portable computers". The damn thing weighed 50 lbs. with its built in keyboard and 5 inch monochrome monitor! I don't know what I would do without at least a 3.2 quad core and 8gb ram now.

  • I'm disappointed that the PC doesn't land with a crash when he kicks it off at 0:10 :)

  • This was a great series of commercials!

  • sell out lol but i still love it

  • And in 20 years we will all be laughing about how that is nothing compared to what we are using now.

  • 20 years?

    I'm laughing now!

  • I love the line "its so heavy nobody could POSSIBLY tell you to take it home with you.. and it comes in a VERY NICE BOX!"

  • Indeed, those are actually good points! I'm watching all the cleese compaq commercials now and this is one of the better ones for sure.

  • I'm on a compaq laptop right now, one of the best computer companies ever.

  • I'm on a Compaq Presario desktop right now!!!!!!! :)

  • haha john cleese is the best ;D
