i am totally for it because i had an infection when i was a baby because my foreskin was impeding my ability to go to pee i could have easily had an infection and died. i was circumcised and my ability to pee and overall heath was drastically improved.

An adult with a tight foreskin can easily do gentle skin expanding exercises that can easily alleviate this. Surgery should be a last resort. Its too bad in North America many doctors will still recommend circumcision, without offering less invasive solutions.

I don't swing through trees having branches smack my unit, for it to require a protective sheath. I imagine most men today where two layers of clothing over their johnsons. Having had the modification in my teens by request (German mom, refused to have it done as child ugh) I noticed no difference in oral sex sensation (hadn't had intercourse yet).

Babies can feel pain, a pinch proves this instantly. However, I have never met a child that can recall the incident so there is no mental trauma, and I've witnessed similar symptoms in crying volume just from a baby thats hungry or needs to be changed or comforted.

1) I would have liked enjoying the hygienic benefits through childhood.

I support every child's right to be protected from genital assaults.
I also support your right to cut off whatever part of your own body offends you or that you think is redundant. However if a bra chafes your nipples I think choosing a different bra is better than amputating irritated nipples.
People who think they have the right to cut parts off babies or children's genitals based on their own prejudices are sick, fucked up; perpetrating a violent, sick thing that was done to them.

would you take a piece of cloth and for rest of your life rub it on the inside of your bottom lip or blast it with a hairdryer to keep it constantly dry? i'm guessing not when we say its for protection we don't mean protection from sharp objects or "corn fields" you are dumb to presume this. The head of the penis (the glans) is made out of the same type of membrane as the inside of your mouth it is there to protect from dryness and friction. so your statement that it is not necessary is wrong.

Every year many children die from being circumcised. A child is cut every 26 seconds in the USA. It is estimated between 100 and 200 deaths every year from this needless and harmful surgery, though usually the death is attributed to something else. Look up circumcision death.
At least in the Philippines your foreskin is usually only cut open its not usually cut off, but it's still an abuse of your genitals.

Babies can feel pain, a pinch proves this instantly. However, I have never met a child that can recall the incident so there is no mental trauma, and I've witnessed similar symptoms in crying volume just from a baby thats hungry or needs to be changed or comforted.
My mother agrees w/ your assertion, BUT, I disagree as:
1) I would have liked enjoying the hygienic benefits through childhood.
2) Its easier and healing is MUCH faster w/ infants
3) It is more popular w/ American females.

1) The hygienic bnefits are negligible. I give my testimony outof my personal experience that I never had any olfactoric, hygienic or even medical issues through my very PrePuce
2) the percentage of persons where CC is seriously indicated is low. Western Europe tells you. Too low than to justify general CC as prevention.

The primary reason circumcision is still practised in the US is simple: Money.
They can collect anywhere up to $2000 per child.
Any MD can perform the procedure using the Gomco Clamp.
The second reason is more complex, but essentially boils down to: Laziness.
Mommy and the Doctor don't have to give Junior the lecture on cleanliness when he reaches puberty.
The third reason is simple as well: Ignorance.
No one has bothered (I mean *NO* one) to do a real long term followup study.

The only real reasons circumcision in the US still exists are simple.
First and foremost: Money. Any doctor with MD on their names can perform this procedure using a Gomco Clamp (the same company that makes tools for castrating animal, by the way, as well as other medical supplies). They can charge anywhere from $100 to $1000 per patient.
There *is* a tiny segment who think it's religious and don;t object because of that.
There *is* a tiny number who actually do think it's a benefit.

I'm a woman and very opposed to circumcision but I'm not envious of men's penises! I very much want an intact man FOR LIFE! ;-) Masturbating as a woman is just as easy as for a man, and much less messy...where are you getting that?! LOL And we get plenty of satisfaction from the vagina, clitoris, and breasts! A nurse's job is to be an advocate for the patient, not an agent for genital mutilation. Any nurse who assists in genital surgery without consent is not only not doing their job they are helping to break the hippocratic oath.

~FIRST of all, the comment "babies dont feel pain" is inaccurate and i would bet, seriously MISQUOTED. No practiceing doctor would say that. AND circumcision is the US is done in infancy because of the infants capacity for pain. Their brain interprets pain differently than ours does. And they do use topical cremes to numb the penis. I'm a mother & i would be much more concerned about using stronger painkillers on my BABY!

nvmy427ss - actually many doctors have said "babies don't feel pain" and continue to deny that babies feel pain.
The EMLA topical cream used to numb the penis for circumcision clearly states in the instructions : "Not to be used on children under 6 months old" and "not for use on the genitals." These topical anesthetics have had serious consequences in adults (death) so there is very good reason not to use on infants. You may be a mother but you sound like a very poorly informed one.

I wouldn't be able to work in the pediatrician care because of the practice of torture. that is what would shame me.

Incorrect. They use no anasthesia because of the risks of death under anasthesia. They use a "topical creme", not even novacaine! They do indeed excuse it with that "babies don't feel pain" crap, too.

The topical creme used is EMLA. The instructions for it read, "Not to be used on the genitals, not to be used on infants under the age of 6 months."
