i think i have a cam exactly similar to yours. i got mine from china while i was there for summer vacation. If this is the same one as mine (TCL something), then its not all that great. At least mine sucked, sound was horrible and the image wasnt stable either; it was either too bright or too dark..

If I ever use a camera it's my mom's camera (I don't have the funds to buy my own) and it records AVI at 640 by 480 I'm not sure about FPS but it's smooth.

Kinda funny because it is designed to be a still frame camera but it works great as a Video Camera.

Save up for a Sanyo Xacti. Records straight to an SD card and is switchable between standard def and 720p. Also take 5MP stills. Nice little cam! Love Meatspace BTW!

mr. blunty.... use what you got now till next gen still cameras and flash camcorders start using MPE/G-4 h.264 spec.... sanyo just came out with one in lo=def.... but hi-def 720p stuff should start to hit in 6-12 months and be worth wait... and next rev of imovie should be out then too.

indeed the dilemna of such terribletiming. i have to get a 2nd hidef sony SR7 to bring to Austin for a docu on the National Poetry slam, but would love to wait for the 3rd gen. there is always something in the wings to wait for. if you need something now the sanyo or canon hi-def ones will just get by.... but wait if you can. or also consider a real hifec cam like the sony sr7 that comes out next month.

Well, it's primarily for stills, but it works. Was about 700 AUD (with the 1G of mem). It does get a little grainy (alot in the dark), but once compiled into a lossy format it kinda smooths out...

In my opinion, the best way to ensure your camera quality is using Youtube. I've looked around for cameras here and there and I would go to Youtube to watch videos of people testing out their new cameras, describing what they like and dislike, and you get to see the uploaded quality.

Also, you seemed a bit off today, as if you received a bit of bad news. Perhaps it was just the inclement weather.
