You know. This is actually a sad song meant for those who don't have the real thing and they have to pretend and imagine. Beautifully sung and meaningful.
I just love his voice. How he can turn a Rockabilly song into his own like this. This man IS a genius with a velvet voice. He always researhed his material and NEVER got a lyric wrong from the original writers.
@bob2bobert2bobertson Haruki Murakami is a japanese writer... he wrote "south of the border, west of the sun". very touching novel about the reunion of two lost lovers when their lives are already done.
I decide that I have to once hear this one in my life (I'm 19 now) cause I've finished reading "south of the border, west of the sun" of Murakami.... this moment, hearing this melody, I think of Shimamoto's living room, where she was listening this song with Hajime...
@terry1919 johnny preston did it and gerry and the pacemakers did it they are in here oscar peterson had a record with regards to nat where he sings like him there is a nat cole club in myspace but the clubs are temporarily shut off
I know Marvin Gaye sang a version of this as well. So beautiful, both versions.

And they thought that the place that's "South of the border" was a perfect world.
They didn't know that it was Mexico.
Murakami is a two-handed living genius. The kind of genius that is born once at a century.

@terry1919 Ralph Marterie did have a hit version of this song, an instrumental, at about the same time as Nat King Cole's.
