@BricktownBubba Yeah! Was watching reruns of Sanford and Son and someone said that ripple was a type of Champagne so you settled the bet for us. Thanks!! I told em:" See, YOU BIG DUMMMY"!! Ha Ha!
0:10 - Wow man! Ripple and turkey! Ripple and ham! Ripple and . . . Fritos! Ripple and deviled eggs! Ripple and hot dogs! Ripple and Doritos! Ripple and Tina's burritos! (Actually, Ripple drunk with Tina's burritos is a recipe for disaster; guaranteed to make one "chunder", as the Aussies say.)
I've always wanted to know what Ripple was, ever since Jodie Foster asked Tommy in the movie Alice Dosen't Live Here Anymore. "You wanna get high on Ripple?"
I always thought Redd Foxx would have been a natural spokesman for Ripple because he used to talk about it all the time on "Sanford & Son". Ex: Champagne & Ripple = Champipple!
How do I describe the taste? It wasn`t too bad. Kinda like a semi-carbonated fruit punch. There probably was a high sugar content too. It tasted a hell of a lot better than T-Bird. All I know is that it did the trick and the price was right. Other than the red Chianti wine my father drank, this was probably one of the first wines I ever tasted. Also, it was fairly popular among college students at SUNY in the early 70s.
Ahhhh memories! Used to buy this every Friday and Saturday night when I was 18. Me and the boys would get so sloshed, we said we would never drink it again, but we always did! A good cheap high-especially if you were a college student and cash strapped, "Pagan Pink" was the one to drink. Does anybody remember "Boone`s Farm Apple Wine"?
Can you describe what Ripple tasted like? I did a taste test of Thunderbird with a friend, and we plan to do Cisco and Night Train Express - Thunderbird was awful stuff. We also tried Thunderbird TC, which was marginally more drinkable, but both bottles got pitched. Yuck. Can't get Ripple any more. - what was the awesomely-named Pagan Pink like...? And yeah, these really begat the term 'wino' - we just had to know firsthand if they were even drinkable.
And yes, we saw Boone's Farm where we found the Thunderbird (Bobby's Liquor in San Jose, which also had high-end stuff). Boone's Farm is, from what I've heard, not nearly as horrid as Thunderbird, etc. - more along the lines of a wine cooler, and thus not necessary for us to try. We just wanted to try the wino wines...
In 1971 when I was in college, you could get a bottle (any flavor) for $1.25. I've never consumed it since and therefore have not recentlyl checked the price. I hope it didn't go up by much-it wasn't even worth $1.25
Wine Spectator magazine reviewed some winery's newest vintage one time, and the taster said the stuff had the essence of a German barnyard. Must have been a very bad year. There was once a wine sold in the Midwest called Rosie O'Grady at one buck a gallon. Best drunk after being kept in the pickup till it was 95 degrees in the cab.
That was Mozart right? She looks like she would vomit and contort if she even had a whiff of Ripple. I think it looks delicious though being a big fan of "sweet wines" myself. Wild Irish Rose had a good flavor back about 12 years ago that had Ginseng in it. Winos need a better memory so they remember how good their life used to be?
Me & Fred G. Sanford mix our Ripple with Champagne & call it "Champipple". =^)
