standard infantry battalions station on land will most likely never be on a ship,en-less a brink of war was to occur ,meu's are like the army's 101st air assault division (light infantry),then you have battalions which are the standard infantry .Expeditionary Marine Units are all light infantry ,which means they all know how to rappel from helicopters,its the marines version of air cav but meu's are the ones in the battleships and its not an mos you have to be picked .

ok lets get this straight for all u video game nerds... sf/rangers go in with small numbers and take out anything or one that will slow the mission down, meu's are shock forces, taking beachheads with brute force and firepower, as this goes on small army light infantry units( 82nd,101st,10th mtn) take inland areas along with marine recon teams, heavy army/marine infantry units then come in to destroy everything left of the enemy... but this is based on a nation with a shoreline... oorah/hooah!

Army basic training is 8 weeks long, a Marines Boot camp is 13 weeks long, the Army Rangers, ( the best the army has to offer) training is 3 weeks long, Marine Corps recon training is 17 ( give or take a week, the Marines are the best of the best for a reason.. but no disrespect intended to the army.

Chances are, the army has the best special operation units. Delta and special forces. Let alone paratroopers. Marines are a basic best. Better than army infantry, but not than paras

@jacknifejay08 Wrong. Ranger Indoc is 8 weeks (for junior enlisteds joining the 75th). Ranger School is another 9 weeks (for NCOs/officers). Army boot is 11 weeks, Marine boot is 12. Army Infantry School has squadbays, Drill Sergeants, daily PT, no phones, no computers, no nights/weekends off. Marine School of Infantry does. Basic Recon Course is 10 weeks. Army SF is 56-95 weeks (depending on their foreign language school, and also if they're medics).

DEP doesn't count as actually being "in".

@jacknifejay08 Everybody knows that USMC boot camp is longer than the Army's boot camp. He's just showing how long the training is for special forces and rangers. Although let's be honest not many people become members of those elite units. Besides, a marine can go to ranger school and earn his ranger tab.

@sicNegro Navy Hospital Corpsmen serve with Marine combat units to provide medical care in combat, so depending on your interests, the Navy may still be an option and also allow you to serve in Marine units. I have heard that Fleet Marine Force School is VERY tough, so don't think of the Navy as simply the "easy" way.
