one thing..mountain men didn't have wagons..just aint feasible to have them in the mountains..they had pack mules a horse and a Hawkins 50 cal. if possible..most would settle for 30 cal. as they were more abundant..traded with the flat head or crow..couldn't do both it was one or the other..and damn lucky to do that,after beaver was trapped out they guided folk through..thick skin folk man..my great granddad was a true mountain man..one of the few..this is where i get my knowledge of it all..
@atrain1880 well all i know is my granddad died at 89 in 1988..my great granddad was mid 80's when he died,had a hawking 50 cal.and a flintlock yes..being rare does not mean it was not to be...(do the math on ages) most couldn't afford it, or traded for them,but they were sought after specially 50 cal. as it had that knock down power for Grizz and elk.i have that Hawkins to this day! fact i have 4 guns of that era and beyond all family hand downs. im the last of my clan, i die my name dies
@valstar1000 hey i read that wrong..my fault..ahh i have daughters..not cut out for that life, however i do live on 3000 achers and they are about nature,we dont watch T.V all music in this house from native flute to what i air..i love that..but the way this guys portrays mountain life 1) is off ..2) times changed aint like that no more..

@ltuomela Most had flintlocks, St Louis Hawkins was rare in the beginning of the fur trade.
