You should extend the length of where the filter with a bit of extra tubing twoards the side wall behind the head lamp, where it is its breathing hot air and thats a loss of power and gas,but if you make a ram air fitted in the nose and an open location like the 924 turbo's nose, thats a good spot for ram air.
just by listening to the engine running and revving. the whining/screaming noise you hear is the balance shaft belt flying through the air at twice crank speed. it doesnt sound very far off from proper tension (when you set the tension correctly it seems looser than youd think) but running too long on a too tight belt can break the belt which causes lots of other problems.
@S944Porsche This isnt too far from correct, mine also whines alittle bit but its not that bad. I had a buddy that tighten it as he tightened the timingbelt and you couldnt stand next to the car cause the whine was so loud it pierced your eardrums almost.
Also, Id love to get that sound from an open filter, unfortunately it basicly reduces power, since theres nothing to protect the air going into the engine from the heat of the engine, you have to have some form of deflector.
I also have an aftermarket filter for my 83 944 na, It does improve the sound, but I also have a full sport exhaust on it and the two of them together make beautiful noise with a porsche. I'm just telling you because it's alot like this, you get the slightly deeper suction noise effecting the overall sound but with the stock exhaust there is still a harshness to it at mid-high rpms, I'll post a video respose in the near future to demonstrate..

Votre 944 a un son un peu bizarre. Je ferai attention si j'étais vous! et je ne parle pas du filtre a air!

Open intake=Best sound in the world. Put a flowmaster on that for even more fun. They sound amazing as long as you leave the cat intact.
